Two soldiers acted without hesitation when the sounds of gunfire interrupted their conversation with a potential recruit in a California Mall last Tuesday. Staff Sgt. Isaiah Locklear and Staff Sgt. Michael Marl first secured their recruit to the rear of the office for safety, and went out to provide assistance.

The mall was under attack by two, what can only be described as terrorists, who were shooting indiscriminately with hand guns. Two teenage boys were severely wounded in the attack.

Bravo Zulu to SSGTs Locklear and Marl for using their training to keep calm and render aid.

Two Army recruiters responded to an active shooter at a California mall Tuesday afternoon.

Staff Sgt. Isaiah Locklear and Staff Sgt. Michael Marl heard the gunfire while talking with a future soldier in their offices at Tanforan Mall in San Bruno, California, at around 4 p.m.

“That’s when we heard two or three shots,” Marl told Army Times. “We kind of looked at each other and were like ‘is this gunfire?’ ”

Four or five more shots rang out.

The two recruiters sent the future soldier they were speaking with to the back of the offices where she could take shelter and then ran out to try and assist with the scene.

They found the first gunshot victim immediately on the second story of the mall. Locklear began tending to him while Marl searched and found a second victim.

“The victim was on the floor, waving his hands, saying that he’s been shot,” Locklear said, adding that a gunshot wound to the stomach was visible. “I took my shirt off and I started applying pressure and checked him to make sure he didn’t have any other wounds.”

Both victims were teenage boys, police said in a statement.

Good for them! Quick thinking again, saves lives.

There are soldiers who run towards gunfire then there are Florida deputy sheriffs and Las Vegas cops who run the other way or freeze.

And security guards apparently. While the Sgts are doing SABC, that security guard is keeping firm watch over Regis. No shampoo getting stolen today. Not on his watch!

Graybeard

In all fairness a security guard is not trained for those scenarios and not paid for much more than standing around.

It depends upon the individual, and most guards are not that sharp, although I knew a bunch who were.

1st time I’m hearing on this. Gun free zone inside a gun free zone inside a gun free zone with “youths”.

No wonder this isn’t being broadcast everywhere. Another failure of gun banners and protected class.

I was under the impression that Recruiters were going to be able to carry side arms after the recruit station shooting which was I think last year????

Tallywhagger

This event occurred in California, go figure.

Gov. Newsom will probably try to blame the situation on the recruiters.

They clearly militarized the mall and made it a potential terrorist target under the Geneva Conventions. Despite their laudable efforts, if the soldiers hadn’t been there this wouldn’t have happened in the first place. Therefore, I’ll be signing a bill just passed through our overwhelmingly Democratic legislature prohibiting the military from recruiting at any malls, sports stadiums, public events, schools, and any other public venue. Military recruiters will be moved to r̶e̶s̶e̶r̶v̶a̶t̶i̶o̶n̶s̶ military bases to conduct their warmongering. There is no place in California for this toxic masculinity.

Gang bangers shooting at one another? And not hitting anything but innocents? How did they get their weapons? Background check failed?

BZ SSG Locklear and SSG Marl. Marching toward the sound of the gun.

ARMY wins…again!

I’m sure that when they find the two punks, they will discover that they are good boys, that were just trying to turn their lives around, had found Jesus and were choir members. Starting junior college in the Fall Semester. /s/

“Gang bangers shooting at one another? And not hitting anything but innocents?”

NYPD style pistol Marksmanship.

Back in the day when I lived in the ‘hood, we always said that the safest person to be in a drive-by was the intended target. Damn gangbangers would always end up shooting some poor grandma who went to pick up milk at the store.

Reality? Most folks are not exactly at their best in a firefight. Fine motor control goes right out the window when the Adrenalin kicks in. Very, very few people practice anything resembling “stress” shooting. The “Action” Gun sports are better than nothing, but the stress from an audience, competitors, and that brain-blanking timer buzzer are not the same as bullets cracking past you, slapping you as they go.

“Oh sh##!” Is not easy to simulate.

Didn’t recruiting offices get armed a few years back, after that Navy office in Georgia got hit? Or was that something that lasted for six months and was done with?

The linked article in the Guardian made no mention of the above two recruiters.

Then they nag you for money.
