Iran Shoots U.S. Drone Down

The Iranians are claiming that one of our drones “violated” its airspace. As a result, they shot it down. According to the U.S. side, it was in international air space conducting surveillance of Iranian activities.

One of the things that’s important now is how the U.S. will react. President Trump commented that it may have been someone “in charge” who made a mistake. But, based on the president’s past actions, this isn’t necessarily an indication that we wouldn’t do anything. He, like the U.S. Military, is waiting for additional information.

From AP:

The paramilitary Guard, which answers only to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said it shot down the drone at 4:05 a.m. Thursday when it entered Iranian airspace near the Kouhmobarak district in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province. Kouhmobarak is about 1,200 kilometers (750 miles) southeast of Tehran.

When additional details come out, it’d be interesting to find out if the Iranians sent warnings to the drone. Usually, in situations like this where no miscalculations are desired, a military would issue a warning and do so in a way that the operator of an errant craft could change directions. Turkey tried to do that with a Russian fighter jet that eventually got shot out of their sky.

The Associated Press has more details.

Great. Now they’ve got our spare parts.

So what about the drone operator?
Is that person reprimanded for getting shot down?

Claw

Will have to take a wait-and-see posture in regards to seeing if the Distinguished Warfare Medal w/”R” Device is approved for that particular drone operator./s

SFC D

If the Iranians recover the wreckage, does the operator qualify for the POW medal?

26Limabeans

Is the operator “teamed” with a particular drone? I mean like do they grieve the loss or is it just another entrenching tool lost in the battle?

Claw

E-Tool Loss = And the Duck cried./s

The Other Whitey

Is there a “Virtual Purple Heart” for getting your drone shot down?

Ex-PH2

THIS!!!! YES!!!!

Don’t know where else to post this but Holy Fucking Shit bombshell. Just breaking

Medic testifies that he, not Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher, was responsible for ISIS fighter’s death

I just sent this to AW1Ed but he can’t post until he’s at home in the evening.

Thanks, bigly for that update Chip. As far as Iran I hope we can avoid war. I’ve had a bad taste in my mouth since 1979 over those bastards. I was on AD stationed in Alaska during Eagle Claw and always hoped that the lives lost could somehow be avenged.

45 should just Tweet a photo of two praying mantis’s.

MI Ranger

Awesome idea!

Mason

Time for some strikes on Iran. So many possibilities. Their naval assets, in particular their spec ops bases. Anything related to their nuclear ambitions should be at the top of the list.

26Limabeans

As a former Signal guy I recommend communications assets. All of them.

SFC D

Concur. Target anything that radiates RF, any tech control facility. And shoot the carrier pigeons.

Huey Jock

I’m anxiously awaiting a massive Wild Weasel destruction of all radar systems in Iran.

We got any MQ-9 Wild Weasels?

Drag Racing Maniac

…no, but we have LGM-30G Minuteman III’s! Yay!

Ex-PH2

Just take off and nuke the place from orbit.

It’s the only way to be sure.

Keep poking raghead. When the hood and tether is taken off of the Eagle, it will not bode well for you. We can eff you up without putting a single boot on the ground. You will not like the war you are trying to start.

MI Ranger

According to official US statements, the downed UAV was an RQ-4C Navy Triton not an RQ-4B (USAF Global Hawk). Flying over international waters when shot at without warning (the Iranians may have tried to hail the aircraft by waving at it from the ground). The aircraft crashed in international waters according to manned aircraft observers.

I’d like to see the US provide support services and let Israel take the initiative in this situation.

There is so much payback in the cue that is difficult to set up a deal where everyone gets a little something.

Wherever the Ayatolla-Assahola is located needs to glow in the dark for at least six months.

FatCircles0311

Aint shit gonna happen. US is scared of Iran. They’ve been killing our citizens for decades without reprisal. Cucked ass US government zero fucks given.

If Hillary was in office she’d be sending another billion US dollars to Iran as an apology.

Geraldo was just speaking on the Fox morning show. He apparently met with some Iranian official over lunch, and he is now shilling the position that the drone might have been in Iranian airspace, that our leaving the “deal” was the problem, that “the Iranians have a right to feed their people” that the Saudis are actually the terrorists.

(Whatever our skeezy Saudi cobelligerants have done, hardly wipes the Iranian slate clean. It Wasnt Saudis supplying sophisticated self-forging-projectile factory-made “IEDs” )

Holy shit has Gerry gone Persian, bigly. For the price of a lunch and flattery. What a tool.

A Proud Infidel®™

Geraldo’s cheese has completely slid off of his cracker!

OldSoldier54

“A right to feed their people…”

Are you kidding me, Geraldo? Jeez, all Iran has to do is stop being the largest state sponsor of terrorism on the planet and they could eat baklava to their hearts content.

He and Juan Williams … I am not sure who takes the Title: Biggest Left Leaning Apologist … all while pretending to be objective.

Just when I think that Geraldo has finally connected to his gray matter, he does something like this.

I’m not a real fan of going to war at the drop of a hat, but Iran has been jamming a finger in our eye since 1979. It sounds like it may be time to gather all of those improved Massive Ordnance Penetrators the Air Force ordered last year, according to this article.

I’d get with Israel to find out where every Nuke site and especially every IRGC site, base, ammo dump, outhouse, and doll house, and turn them into smoking craters.

This would maybe give the general population a shot at overthrowing the Mullahs and their pet bully-boys, the Basij. Our beef is with the Mullahs, not the Persian people in general.

No one has asked this obvious question, so I will:

Why is there no self-destruct mechanism that zaps all circuits and sets the silly thing on fire, detonating the fuel tanks, etc.? Metal and hardened plastic shards flying everywhere can be a real deterrent to seizing something of ours.

Iran’s shootdown has disrupted air traffic in the Middle East.

“The threat of a civil aircraft shootdown in southern Iran is real,” warned OPSGROUP, a company that advises airlines, citing as an example the downing of a Malaysia Airlines jetliner over eastern Ukraine in 2014, killing all 298 aboard. – AP article

Bad shit happens when your country is engaged in belligerent actions and a holy war against The U.S. and its allies. ESL?

Also, all the U.S. citizens killed by Iran and its proxies didn’t happen by accident.

Fareed

ESL? Did you at least put the banjo down before running through the screen door to defend Uhmerica on the internet? There’s no edit function 😉

I have no doubt there are plenty of Russians who feel the exact same way you do about MH17.
