Jackson DA determines man’s death in 2018 shooting was self-defense

by WLOS STAFF
CANADA, N.C. (WLOS) — Jackson County District Attorney Ashley Welch has determined that the 2018 shooting death of a Glenville man was self defense, and no criminal charges will be filed.

District Attorney Welch has completed a review of the complete investigative file and has determined that no criminal charges will result from the death of 52-year-old William David Griffis, calling the shooting self defense, and an example of the “castle doctrine.”

The release states that Griffis had illegally and forcibly broken into a home while making threats to a woman with whom he had once been in a relationship. Under the statutory castle doctrine in North Carolina, Welch writes, the shooter had the right to defend, with deadly force, both himself and the woman with whom Griffis had had a relationship.

Man Shot in El Cajon Had Attacked Off-Duty Security Guard, Officials Said

By Brenda Gregorio-Nieto
A man shot and killed in El Cajon on Thursday had attacked an off-duty security guard before the shooting, police said.

The unidentified man was killed around 9:30 a.m. at the 1300 block of East Main Street, near El Cajon Inn and Suites, El Cajon police Lt. Royal Bates said.

Investigators said Friday that witnesses saw the suspect try to violently attack an off-duty security guard.

The security guard told police that he then pepper-sprayed the suspect, but it had no effect.

When the security guard locked himself in his vehicle, the suspect tried to break two of his car windows, according to officials.

The guard managed to escape by driving away.

Investigators said it was then that the suspect redirected his attention and advanced towards the man who fired the gun and killed him.

He shot 4 men, killing 1, but turned down a plea deal. This month a Philly jury found him not guilty.

by Mensah M. Dean
If you Google the name Jabir Kennedy, you will read about a fugitive wanted for gunning down four men, one fatally, during Christmas week 2017 in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia. You will read that the “armed and dangerous” fugitive turned himself in a week later and was charged with first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.

That’s all you’ll read about Kennedy, 23, because in a city that typically tallies more than 300 murders and more than 1,000 nonfatal shootings a year, his case quickly disappeared from the news cycle.

So when the case reached its conclusion this month, there were no headlines for what turned out to be a rarity in the criminal justice system: an admitted gunman in a quadruple shooting acquitted by a jury of all charges.

Kennedy’s weeklong trial at the Criminal Justice Center, which ended March 15, focused not on Stand Your Ground or the Castle Doctrine, but instead on old-fashioned self-defense, his lawyer said.

“forcibly broken into a home while making threats to a woman with whom he had once been in a relationship”

If she doesn’t love you then just beat the crap out of her until she does.
The new guy might object though.

CCO

In this case, it was not the new guy but a cousin who lived nearby.

3/3/0 Good stats, granted 2 are from the past but the first one, it is good to see he was finally vindicated. Second was one of these that makes me wonder why guard only had pepper spray. Fella that finally did stop perp, knew it was the only way. Third one is the one to keep an eye on as is not finished yet. Killed one wounded 3 and fifth is not mentioned, 15 months in jail now out and wants to get back into daughters life. Let’s see, ex seems to have set you up, 5 were after you, put one down for dirt nap, 3 others have a memento on their body, you are sticking around, sounds like another body bag or two are in the future with names from this are going to come up in the future. My radar is tingling, D/A there is a lot of space out there west of Philly to go to that is probably safer to be in. I’ll take family feud for 5 on this one.

Never live in a state where The Castle Doctrine isn’t codified in the written constitution. Having a Stand Your Ground Law is pretty awesome also.

Been a good while since we had a double trifecta. be a nice payout all around. Let’s all meet at the Clubhouse for the Prime Rib Brunch. My treat…comes with the beverage of your choice. I’ll have the Bloody Mary Margarita Surprise. The doctor told me I needed more fresh fruits.

The City of Brotherly Love, the 2nd most shoot ’em up city behind Chitcongoraqstan? 300 killed and 1K plus WIA? I guess that, just like the Coveted FIRST on the TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread, nobody pays attention to who comes in 2nd.

My IPN (incident paging network) Texts has Chicago leading Baltimore in shootings.

That last story, I can’t see why they ever prosecuted him. Seems like a very clear case of self defense. I mean, he shot them with their own gun, which they had been using to pistol whip him.

Where’s Claw? There’s an overabundance of whiz wheel material in that article.

Is there a way to “nonviolently attack”?
Sounds like a Python skit.
“Pardon me, kind Sir, I’d like to rob you.”
“Oh,no, not now. I’m on the way to market.”
“Dandy then! I’ll be here on your return.”
“Splendid. See you then.”

Thanks, AW1ed

If you read the article, the D A prosecuted because he fired 8 to 10 shots at the 5 men who attacked him.
With the attackers’ gun no less!
Wounded 3 and killed one.
Seems like that D A doesn’t think you are allowed to miss, or do a double tap.
Massad Ayoob himself testified for the defense.
Did the guy have self defense insurance?
I wonder how much it costs to have a world renowned expert testify for you?

Now here is a fine list of links that are worthy of bookmarking, at least to conservative interests, per AW1ED. Thanks.
