Michael Avenatti Charged With Extortion

| March 27, 2019

Michael Avenatti speaks after his court appearance. (William C. Lopez)

Remember Michael Avenatti? He represented Stormy Daniels, and he also became a favorite media darling. Cocky over how he previously made predictions, he predicted that Trump Jr. would get indicted before the end of last year. He also predicted that President Trump wouldn’t complete the balance of this current term.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t predict what would happen if he did certain things… Like pushing his luck too far or engaging in extortion. He has been charged with attempting to extort Nike.

From the New York Post:

During an afternoon news conference, Manhattan US Attorney Geoffrey Berman said Avenatti told Nike that if his demands weren’t met, the company would be “inflicted with cut after cut after cut after cut.”

“A suit and tie doesn’t mask the fact that at its core this was an old-fashioned shakedown,” Berman said.

As for the charges against him in California, prosecutors in the Golden State allege that Avenatti stole a client’s $1.6 million settlement and spent the cash on personal expenses and debts, and to run his law firm and former coffee business, Tully’s Coffee, which had stores in Los Angeles and Seattle.

Avenatti is also accused of defrauding a bank in Mississippi by using fake tax returns to borrow $4.1 million, even though he never filed personal tax returns for 2011, 2012 and 2013 — and still owes the IRS more than $850,000 in unpaid taxes, penalties and interest for 2009 and 2010, the feds said.

He had to go to the same court where he held a news conference with Stormy Daniels. There, they let him know what he was being charged with, what his bond was going to be, the condition of the bond, etc.

He couldn’t find a lawyer to represent his case, so he got appointed a couple of federal lawyers.

From the New York Post:

Michael Avenatti apparently couldn’t find a lawyer to represent him on extortion charges following his stunning arrest — and wound up with a pair of court-appointed federal defenders at his side on Monday night.

Avenatti was hauled into the same downtown Manhattan courthouse where he held a news conference last year with then-client and porn star Stormy Daniels, who claims to have had a 2006 affair with Donald Trump.

Stormy Daniels ended his legal services for her due to his dealing with her dishonestly. The above articles, and the details of the charges against him, would substantiate her justification.

The PDF for the New York Charges list details for his distortion charges. The PDF for the Lost Angeles charges provide details on wire and bank fraud. Both links from Axios.

But wait! There’s more! According to Fox News, Mark Geragos is listed as a co-conspirator. He represented Jussie Smollett. Both Mark Geragos and Michael Avenatti were CNN favorites.

Your predictions of what Michael Avenatti’s future holds could very well be more accurate than the ones he had on the Trumps.

You could read details in the above links.

HMCS(FMF) ret

“How about you and I going to the BTJT Deli, Mikey-boi”.

“Who’s your Daddy” is gonna take on a whole new meaning for both Avanatti and Geragos.

Ex-PH2

Does anyone besides me think the concrete will splatter him when he lands? Maybe Banksy will do a portrait of him on a wall under on of NYC’s bridges.

And he cheated on a porn star, too? How is that possible?

Mason

Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Always room for one more scum sucking bottom feeding lawer in Hell.

Wonder if he’ll find himself “swimming with the fishes” soon. At least he wouldn’t have to worry about the sharks biting him….You know, that whole professional courtesy thing.

He should get off because he is a demo rat. You heard of the double standard./Sarc

Fyrfighter

If he was charged in Chicago, no doubt, just ask Jussie

Veritas Omnia Vincit

Wow, who knew a guy of such stellar integrity and reputation would stoop to such things as are alleged in this case?

Isn’t Paul Manafort going to jail for not paying his taxes? Perhaps the IRS would be interested in Mr. Avenatti as well.

Skyjumper

“Michael Avenatti………admitting he is “nervous” and “scared” about potentially being put behind bars.”

“Oh look Mikey, I dropped my soap. Care to pick it up for me?”

Heh, heh, heh…………! 🙂

The day just got brighter here.

Ex-PH2

Someone… some kind soul (not me)… should tell Mr. Avenatti “Be afraid. Be VERY afraid.” Then laugh nastily and walk away.

Skyjumper

Ex-PH2, he should be “More nervous than a small nun at a penguin shoot.” (grin)

Opps! Pardon me Sister Mary Grace for I have sinned……….

When your cellmate says bend your knees and touch your toes, and I’ll show you where the wild goose goes, your goose is cooked.

The Other Whitey

You think CPL’s cell daddy will keep him for his own use, or rent him out to the rest of the block?

The Other Whitey

Couldn’t happen to a nicer assbag.

Let’s see: cheated on his taxes multiple years running, stole from the ex-wife he cheated on, vexatious litigant, beat his girlfriend, ripped off multiple clients, bank fraud, extortion, false claims, perjury/lying under oath, I’m probably missing a few more.

Remember last summer when CNN wanted this guy to run for president?

rgr769

But as our commie cuttlefish would say: Stop that rush to judgement! Only orange man bad!

AW1Ed

Al Sharpton shakes head, mutters “Amateur.”

Hondo

OK, I’ll ask it: if he tried to shakedown Nike . . . you don’t suppose he might have tried to do the same to some NY rich guy too, maybe?

Ex-PH2

Now, why would you ever think of something like that?

AW1Ed

I would suppose the NY rich guy has had that happen before, and knows exactly how to deal with it.

“Nice kneecaps ya got there, Mikey. Be a shame if something, happened, to them.”

Th e Stranger

Still a better lawer than Bernath…

NHSparky

That’s not saying much.

Kinda like being the smartest kid on the short bus.

The Stranger

True. Still needed to be said, though!

Avenatti also represented Julie Swetnick, who accused Judge Brett Kavenaugh of sexual misconduct.

He called Judge Kavenaugh and others “Privileged White Guys”.

We know how that story ended.

“Avenatti: Third Kavanaugh Accuser Will Prove Credible Against Kavanaugh, Other ‘Privileged White Guys’ Who Defend Him”

https://www/thehill.com/hilltv/rising/408674-michael-avenatti-julie-swetnick-will-prove-credible-against-brett-kavanaugh-and%3famp

“Julie Swetnick, the third woman to come forward publicly with sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, is willing to take a lie detector test to prove her credibility, her attorney, Michael Avenatti, said in an interview Wednesday.”

“This is another strong, courageous woman who feels incredibly strong about her convictions and her allegations,” Avenatti said in an exclusive interview with Hill.TV’s Jamal Simmons and Krystal Ball.”

“I’m looking forward to putting her credibility up against people like Donald Trump, Senator [Chuck] Grassley (R-Iowa), Brett Kavanaugh, [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and others. All of the privileged white guys that want to come after my client and cast aspersions against her and me. I’m looking forward to doing battle with every one of them,” he added.”

The Stranger

He’s going to be doing battle with Bubba, Thor, Tyrone, Julio, and Mr. Tiny!

I thought of someone else when I read this:

“A suit and tie doesn’t mask the fact that, at its core, this was an old-fashioned shakedown,” … “When lawyers use their law licenses as weapons, as a guise to extort payments for themselves, they are no longer acting as attorneys, they are acting as criminals.”

Geoffrey Berman, U.S. attorney in Manhattan

A Proud Infidel®™

the Mueller Investigation against President Trump was a FLOP, now this… Oh Man, remember when not too long ago TARDOs were screeching the same shit that Michael Avenatti was? Some are TARDOs that have TARD to the point where they still can’t screeching while still accusing the POTUS of it, Rachel Madcow being at the lead of that herd. Yeah, hey, didn’t we have some TARDO here screeching how the Mueller bullshit was going to be the end for President Trump? Wait, that was the same mullet-head that screeched about some big Zika Virus apocalypse that never happened…

Part of the reason why I am studying to become a paralegal (I might even stay as one) rather then a lawyer.

You know your in trouble when Stormy Daniels walks away. Seems like yesterday when MSNBC and CNN had him on speed dial with Dems talking about his 2020 Presidential Run. How quickly it fades when you can’t do anything more for the Progressives.

The creepy porn lawyer is crooked? This is my shocked face.

Just Lurkin

Apparently one of the defendants in the NXIVM sex slave scandal fainted in court today when the judge asked her if Avenatti was her lawyer. Turns out that Mark Geragos represents her, but US attorney says he has talked to both Geragos and Avenatti about the case (Ace.mu.nu has link to story).
