North Korea summit ends with no deal…

…but Trump’s move sent a message that matters – What will Kim do now?

All the usual suspects are pointing fingers and declaring Trump’s latest meet with Kim Jong Un a failure.

Politico discusses”…his abortive talks with the North Korean dictator.”

CNN states “..But his Hail Mary pass didn’t work.”

And so forth and so on. Typical, and boring accounts from the #OrangeManBad crowd. Admittedly, he came home empty handed, but is that always a failure?

Fox News analyst James Jay Carafano says wait a minute.

He opines that while a deal was not reached; there were four possible outcomes from the summit.

First, the incredibly remote “grand slam” possibility: an inked deal in which North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un made a real commitment to denuclearize, with verification.

Second, the “substantial progress” possibility. This would entail North Korea to put something new on the table — like a list accounting for all their nuclear assets.

Third, the “nothing-burger” possibility, in which the two leaders just agree to keep talking.

Fourth, the “backtracking” possibility, with the U.S. agreeing to ease sanctions or make other concessions solely to keep Kim at the negotiating table.

Realistically the fourth option was the worst and a non-starter from Trump’s perspective.

So Trump stuck to his demands, which I feel surprised Kim and his handlers- they are so used to America granting them concessions- and no deal was reached.

But Kim stood by his demands, too. Stalemate. But was it really? Trump gained a two-fer; standing fast where the NORKs expected some daylight, and keeping the negotiations going.

Left unsaid was the close personal relationship between the two leaders. Next round I would hope for something like the second option.

Is it wrong for me to say, “GAWD, I LOVE President Trump!” (in a bro love way, of course)

Mason

I kinda wish I was an American flag so he’d hug me.

akpual

Maybe the President should send them a few pallets of cash.

Kim would prolly settle for a lifetime membership to the Cheese of the Month Club. Hitlery would have already sent Kim a Minite Man II with MIRVs attached.

Article in today’s local fish wrapper re the ending of war games on the Peninsular, by lined LA Times, quoted Abraham Baldwin “Why negotiate with the US when it makes concessions for free?” Halting would have “major implications for readiness.”

Not only is there a new Sheriff in town, remember Paladin kept a 2 shot hideaway handy.

Still say we shoulda let the Navy shoot down Kim’s test rockets.

5th/77th FA

Yeah, Roger all that, but let the boy dream a bit. You know have an oops moment.

Here’s another dream I got. All those idiots that think socialistic/communistic utopias are so great, let them move to NK. They better take their own rations. I can understand people living in closed societies not knowing about conditions here. What I can’t understand is people here, seeing the evidence of what’s going on in those sh*thole countries, thinking that their way is better. Maybe that whole, “We gonna get it right this time” mentality kicks in.

They will have to pry our Republic from my cold stiff fingers. My body will be covered by expended brass.

Saw one blurb with an estimate of 200 million privately owned firearms and 12 trillion rounds. Saw another update blurb on one of your PDRofMd Sheriffs going viral on no enforcing of new gun laws.

Elected sherrifs often say what seems to work for votes. When such folks themselves face arrest for refusing, many will find more “nuanced” ways to seemingly defying while actually complying.

Wife/kids=co-conspirator=decades-in-slam is typical Fed threat.

Don’t count on your local LEO or other official to guard your rights at the cost of theirs. Historically, this fails.

Expect to fight.

“…15,000 arty tubes and rocket launchers aimed at an ally’s capitol city.”

Color me skeptical. I would be willing to bet that a good portion of those alleged artillery pieces & their ammunition date back to the Korean war, if they exist at all.In addition, the center of Seoul is about 20 miles from the closest N.K. territory, outside the range of most artillery.

My attitude is “Who cares”? Even if the NORKs have all that artillery, using it would give any sane US or S.K. government a good excuse to end the problem once and for all. And Seoul is only a fraction of S.Korea.

Tubby ‘lil Kim-Cheese was likely disappointed that President Trump wasn’t offering him pallets of American cash like his predecessor handed to Iran and “Blowjob Willie Clinton handed his Father along with nuclear material. IMHO a GOP insider would have just taken any shit deal while a D-rat would offer barge loads of handouts while claiming they actually did something worthwhile.

김 정 운, 일명 지방산 다 똥, was hoping for something good from the Hanoi summit with Trump. He had seen what Obummer delivered to Iran… It seems he was planning to celebrate something…[https://www.npr.org/2019/02/26/698405388/dutch-customs-seize-90-000-bottles-of-russian-vodka-allegedly-bound-for-north-korea]

Reagan met with Gorbychoof 5 or 6 times before deal with was made.

Ronald Reagan also walked away from the table at Rekyavik, Iceland with the liberal media screeching that he was getting us into a war with Russia.

11B-Mailclerk

Better no deal than a bad deal.

And that message was intended for a wider audience.

rgr769

Yes, Halfbright and the dirty D-rats have already given us bad deals with the Norks for many years.

timactual

Yep. We are certainly no worse off than we were two years ago, after 16 years of Clinton/Obama.

Mason

No deal is far better than a bad deal. Trump is playing the long game. We’ve been in a state of war for almost 70 years now. As Reagan did with the Soviets, this could bring the entire regime crushing down. Imagine in the next two or three years seeing North Koreans storm across the DMZ in freedom hordes.

Commissar

Well at least he didn’t screw it up. Though him lying about what the NKs were requesting was unnecessary.

A Proud Infidel®™️

It appears that President Trump was NOT going to offer bribes like “Blowjob Willie” Clinton did or offer to appease him like his predecessor did. President Trump was quite a successful Businessman before getting elected and in making a deal one always has to be ready to just walk away.

“An appeaser is one who feeds the Crocodile hoping it will eat him last.” – Sir Winston Churchill

timactual

You should probably review the record of Clinton/Obama in that respect. Or FDR wrt Germany, etc. Or Kennedy wrt Cuba. The list goes on.

Commissar

Also it is great he was able to absolve Kim of any responsibility in Warmbier’s treatment and death. So typical of the leftist MSM to be trying to make it appear Kim was a bad guy. So unfair!

Mason

Was also waiting for this. If only Obama had been able to close the deal and bring him home sooner. Trump was able to at least bring him home to die with family.

rgr769

If you will recall, what the parents said about ZeroBama’s crew was they were told to be patient, shut-up, and not make waves about there son’s predicament. Otto’s situation was not important to anyone in the Zero regime. If they could care less about protecting their diplomats in Benghazi, why would this young man matter one whit?

Hondo

Though him lying about what the NKs were requesting was unnecessary.

Also it is great he was able to absolve Kim of any responsibility in Warmbier’s treatment and death.

It’s called “diplomacy”, Poodle. Presidents do similar things all the time.

It’ kinda like Kennedy lying through his teeth when he congratulated Khrushchev for Gargarin being the first man in space in 1961, or Trump congratulating Ergodan for being “reelected” in a rigged election recently. In neither case was the congratulations sincere; both Presidents almost certainly firmly wished at the time that things had turned out differently. But being President means working with – and sometimes offering insincere congratulations to or overlooking the reprehensible behavior of – autocratic regimes and leaders.

If you’d put aside the ideological blinders and that “Orange Man Bad” obsession that consumes you, you’d see that. Or, alternatively, if you’d simply quit parroting the Party Line when it’s patently absurd, you’d appear less of a fool.

Ex-PH2

Hondo, you are a funny, funny man!

You’re asking an addict to get off the crack.

Commissar

Lying about what the NKs demanded is not diplomacy. Which is why the state department had to release a statement rejecting what the president said. He lied as an excuse for failure without any regard for how his lie impacted future negotiations. Knock off the bullshit.

Mason

Maybe he’s referring to this take on it?

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/28/north-korea-press-conference-sanctions-1196561

Sounds like Politico would rather believe the North Koreans. Besides that, lifting sanctions that affect the civilian economy is the whole point of the sanctions. Cripple the nation economically to force the bosses to change.

Even if the Kims and other ranking members of the regime still have sanctions on them individually, they will prosper if the sanctions are lifted on the economy as a whole.

Hondo

Unless you were in the room during negotiations, Poodle, you have no idea whether Trump or Kim – or neither of them – is telling the truth here. So spare me the “Trump lied” BS. You have no idea whether he did or not.

News flash for ya, Polyanna: diplomats lie publicly all the time. That includes public statements about their own countries negotiating positions and the demands of adversaries.

However, in my book it’s quite telling that you’d take the unsupported word of a Communist dictator who tried to off his own brother over that of the POTUS.

So how about you take your own advice and “knock of the BS.”

SgtM

The idiot Otto should not have been in Nork anyway. His stupidness started an international incident. Otto poked the bear and got bit.

5th/77th FA

Larsie Boi quote from above “Knock off the bullshit.”

Hell, we wish you would knock off YOUR bullshit.

Again, go away, go far away.

rgr769

He refuses to go back to Huffpo or DU because he is just part of the lemming crowd there and nobody pays any attention to his comments, as he is just a small part of the crypto-commie chorus of like-minded commenters.

Ex-PH2

Does he really think anyone is going to do ANYTHING he says?

timactual

” hardly a capitol crime.”

Reality begs to differ. There are many things in the world that although they are not capital crimes, can be fatal. N.K. is one of those areas of the world where you should put your affairs in order and make out a will before you go.

Commissar

That lie diplomatically requires NK to do another launch test unless Pompeo and the DoS smooth things over.

Halting the launch tests is one of the most significant things the Trump administration accomplished.

He may have undermined that.

A Proud Infidel®™️

HA! Tubby young Kim-Cheese knows good and well that the current Administration will NOT cowtow to any cheap stunts like previous ones did.

LCpl Rhodes

I mean, we agreed to cancel all large-scale military exercises in the region. So, North Korea DID get something out of the deal even though we didn’t.

gravy

Well hell, if it was easy Bill Clinton would have done it.
