Pentagon agrees to extended role on US-Mexico border mission | National News | militarynews.com
The Pentagon agreed to provide personnel to operate security cameras and lay about 150 miles of concertina wire between official ports of entry, as well as continue to fly aircraft in support of Customs and Border Protection personnel.
“DOD is transitioning its support at the southwestern border from hardening ports of entry to mobile surveillance and detection, as well as concertina wire emplacement between ports of entry,” the Pentagon said in a statement.
Troops last fall put down about 70 miles (110 kilometers) of concertina wire.
One way or another President Trump appears determined to get our borders secured. I have yet to hear a rational explanation for why people are opposed to protecting this country.
During Clinton and Obama administrations they seemed to support something, spend a lot of money, nothing much happened. I seem to remember President Obama getting billions to build barriers.
But, I also remember New Orleans getting boatloads of money to build and maintain flood prevention.
President Trump took over a skating rink in New York City that had been botched by the government there. He did in a few months what the government there could not accomplish in years and finished it with money to spare.
Let’s not wait, as we did in New Orleans, for some disaster to happen.

I figure this is probably not the most desirable assignment these troops could get, but it is helping to deal with the problem.
They’ll come up with a campaign medal that’ll be worth some points for a promotion. At least this is a clear mission that’s protecting the country and not something more nebulous.
Since national security is one of the few things the feds are meddling in that is a legitimate job they are supposed to do, absolutely, they should do everything necessary to secure the border, among other things they should be doing to secure the country. Really, this is not a difficult concept to grasp.
Hmmm. How long before some hack judge tries to interfere?
I give it maybe two weeks to a month!
So things are moving right along, just as they should, after all.
Hmmph. Who thought such a thing would happen?
What’s the over-and-under on the length of this “shut down”? I’d put a couple of bucks on dTrump coming out on top, but I think that’s a given.
The occupants of the “swamp” are just slap bent out of shape that The Donald is doing his best to fulfill his campaign promises. God forbid that we have that. Upsets the apple cart.
The politicians raising the most hell at dTrumpster are the ones that have been up there for decades, have not only caused the problems we face, but refuse to do their damn jobs and fix the problems. All kinds of sites are full of articles about the billions that have been allocated for security, and none has been spent.
Secure the border, protect the country and do it now. That is not asking for much as a taxpayer. The gubmint shutdown? When they gonna shutdown the generational welfare state? When they gonna shut down pissing away my tax money? Every country I’ve ever been in, you had to show documents to pass a border. It’s not that hard to comprehend.
To expand on RGR 4-78’s thoughts on the desirable duty; I’d rather be stringing concentina wire defending my homeland, than stuck outside the wire in a shit hole place that doesn’t want me there and every person I see is thinking over ways to kill me.
How many remember from the Viet of the Nam, the locals working on the firebase during the day, become the gooks in the wire that night? How many casualties in the ME & Afshitstan have been “blue on blue” attacks? How many of the “starving refugees” you see on the news casts at night are planning on becoming “sleeper agents?”
Fix it…Fix it now…We’re with you on this Don!
“Pentagon agrees to extended role on US-Mexico border”
Am I missing something? Is the Pentagon an independent branch of government? Times must have changed. When I was in the military the President was at the top of the chain of command, not the Sec. of Def.
I had a similar thought. “Pentagon is told to…” is the better way to describe it.
Very reassuring to know the Pentagon leadership is following the CinC’s orders. Sounds like the senior leaders on that side of the Potomac are real team players.
