Possible plant coloring on different planets. Illustration by Doug Cummings, Caltech.

Happy Humpday TAH. The above photo shows an artist’s depiction of what plant coloring could be like under an alien sun.  It’s possible that some planets could have vegetation that’s permanently in different shades of red, orange, yellow, green, or even black.

You could read more here.

Other than that, this is your middle of the week “anything” goes thread.

Not caring… yet I posted.

The idea, mentioned yesterday, about Jonn’s Regiment sounds good. Ball caps with a logo is appealing.

Let’s see who can FIRST to find some more stolen valor sh^t birds for us to pound upon.

Aren’t we approaching Lawn Dart Dani’s anniversary of him maintaining minus 6 feet AGL AND assuming room temperature? Is there a party? Will there be cookies?

So far this week we have had all four seasons of the year at my firebase. Usually we only have 2; Summer and January.

Extry Admin shore stirred up the pot on yesterday past, huh?

Tallywhagger

January 22nd, IIRC.

Aysel

the 22nd is the anniversary of that shit bag? I’ll have to make sure to get some treats to celebrate. (although I do feel sorry for his kids, it’s not easy having a dirt bag for a father)

rgr769

We should all pour our favorite beverage and toast his lack of basic skilz as a purported light sport aircraft pilot. I am still wondering what specifically he did to put his dick in the dirt.

I just want to wish all my brethren on TAH a very happy Hump Day! I will raise a glass to all my friends here today! May you all have a very happy rest of the week. And yes, we need another phony pony to beat to death at the keyboard! Can I be sued for any of this statement?

Been a while since I posted any YouTube finds, so here are a couple.

https://youtu.be/8-v2BHNBVCs – If you’re a fan of the movie Airplane! then you’ll like this one. Who knew it was an almost shot for shot remake of a much more serious move Zero Hour (1957)?

https://youtu.be/1b6auSQPvGs – Color footage of the Pearl Harbor attack, with some backstory on the couple that took it (Master Sgt Harold Oberg and wife). Looking at findagrave, Harold Oberg ended up with the USAF after the war and is buried as a CWO and veteran of both world wars. Especially impressive because he was only 16 when the First World War ended.

https://youtu.be/puT1lZdsfrY – Enemy PW in RVN. We all know how the NVA treated our PWs, so now you can contrast that with the way we treated theirs. Can’t believe they gave them vocational training.

It’s been 71 days since commenter Ken.T.taylor was asked a very pertinent question about his purported RVN service.

As of this date, only the Cricket Brigade has answered.

ex-OS2

2/17 Air Cav reminded him again on 12/28/2018, here

I provided Ken T. Taylor with some “helpful” information.

Here you go Ken, just to refresh your memory:

2/17 Air Cav: Any idea why neither Taylor, Kenneth T nor Taylor, Ken T isn’t listed?

To make it easy for you, here is the link to the Australian Government DVA Nominal Rolls where you can easily search for your service.

http://nominal-rolls.dva.gov.au/http://nominal-rolls.dva.gov.au/

I did a search and came up empty, maybe you will have better luck.

Hondo

To amplify on the above:

There are 265 individuals listed on Austraila’s nominal rolls for Vietnam with the surname “Taylor”.

Of those, 9 had the first name “Kenneth” (none were listed with the short form “Ken” as their first name).

Extracted from the nominal roll, here are those 9 individuals. The list below is isted in the format “NAME SER NO DOB POB Branch”. I’ve replaced the DOB with XX XXX XXXX.

TAYLOR, Kenneth Alfred R64041 XX XXX XXXX MILDURA RAN
TAYLOR, Kenneth Allan 2790769 XX XXX XXXX BRIGHTON-LE-SANDS Army
TAYLOR, Kenneth Edwin 14592 XX XXX XXXX MURWILLUMBAH Army
TAYLOR, Kenneth John 29714 XX XXX XXXX RYDE Army
TAYLOR, Kenneth John 2794904 XX XXX XXXX SYDNEY Army
TAYLOR, Kenneth Michael Andrew R62164 XX XXX XXXX WARRACKNABEAL RAN
TAYLOR, Kenneth Owen 1733880 XX XXX XXXX TOWNSVILLE Army
TAYLOR, Kenneth Ronald 2196751 XX XXX XXXX SYDNEY Army
TAYLOR, Kenneth Victor C61533 XX XXX XXXX SYDNEY RAN

None of those individuals has a middle name beginning with the letter “T”. Draw whatever conclusion from that you desire.

Combat Historian

I missed this one. Did somebody try to pull a poseroo in the TAH comments section? Ay caramba…

2/17 Air Cav

In answer to your question, CH, it appears so. Aussie Ken claimed to have served with the Australians in Vietnam but, as I recall, a quick search of the dates the Australians were there set off an alarm. Then I searched the Australian on-line records, which provides the name of everyone, military or civilian, who was in Vietnam. His name isn’t there. Consequently, I asked why that is, that his name isn’t listed. I asked, in fact, at least a half dozen times, and he has ignored each query. Initially, he absented himself from TAH for a couple or three weeks but has returned off and on. That’s the whole of it. My only question was whether he had a plausible explanation for his name not appearing on the rolls of those who served. I guess he is just content to ignore the matter, but if he is a poser, well…

Combat Historian

I hope Mr. Taylor can clear this up, I really do…

Hondo

Well, if he’s a downunder relative of someone else we all “know and love” . . . I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath while waiting.

CBS eve news had a good bit on the Stennis. Looking carefully one of the jets had a RDML’s name on the bird. Do Flags fly that much?

Another one bites the dust, BOOM!!

The head of Navy recruiting in Michigan was fired Tuesday, officials said.

Cmdr. John W. House, 49, was relieved of command of Navy Recruiting District Michigan “due to loss of confidence,” Navy Recruiting Command spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Jessica McNulty said in an email to Navy Times.

“The Navy Recruiting Command Office of the Inspector General investigated allegations relating to Cmdr. House and appropriate accountability actions will be taken,” McNulty added.

Few other details regarding House’s firing were available Wednesday and he did not return messages from Navy Times seeking comment.

The recruiting district’s executive officer, Cmdr. David Pavlik, has taken the helm of the Michigan command.

An Arkansas native and surface warfare officer, House enlisted in 1988 and was commissioned in 1996, according to service records.

Dipping his wick in the enlisted gene pool or what? IDK. Unless he had a break in service, he has 30 years or so AD.

Hondo

Break in service is one possibility, and that would be my guess. A substantial amount of enlisted service prior to commissioning is another.

NHSparky

Seaman-to-Admiral or ECP are most likely.

As for his firing? Could be a number of reasons. Not making goal (even sub-goals), too many fraudulent enlistments, the list goes on.

TAHellcats and environs looking for careers might want to check this out, these folks are screaming for help nationwide. And not just for the power companies. Telcos and CATVs are screaming too.
