Trump announces plan to deny asylum-seekers who don’t show up at ports of entry, in latest major immigration policy shift
Trump’s ultimatum to caravan invaders, obey our laws and wait for asylum hearings. If not, go home or be deported.
President Trump announced in a lengthy speech at the White House on Thursday afternoon that, in response to what he called the “crisis at our southern border” and a surge of fraudulent asylum claims in recent years, his administration will soon require asylum-seekers to “lawfully present themselves” at a port of entry.
The move appeared designed to prevent many members of the leading Central American migrant caravan — which now numbers approximately 4,000, down from a high of 7,200 — from making asylum claims if and when they reach the U.S. border. Asylum claims made by migrants caught crossing the border illegally would seemingly be summarily denied under Trump’s proposal.
The asylum clause of the Immigration and Nationality Act says that anyone who arrives to the U.S. may apply for asylum based on a well-founded fear of persecution, and Trump’s decision was likely to prompt immediate federal court challenges.

The president also issued something of a warning to members of the caravan, including those who reportedly threw rocks at members of the Mexican police this week.
“We will consider that a firearm,” Trump said. “We will consider that the maximum we can consider that, because they’re throwing rocks viciously and violently. …. We’re not going to put up with that. They want to throw rocks at our military, our military fights back. I told them to consider it a rifle. When they throw rocks, like they did at the Mexico military and police, I said, consider it a rifle.”

Trump was clarifying his previous remarks from the day before and appeared to walk back the suggestion that he would authorize the use of lethal force against a rock thrower.
“[The military] won’t have to fire. What I don’t want is these people throwing rocks …. What they did to the Mexican military is a disgrace. They hit them with rocks. Some were very seriously injured, and they were throwing rocks in their face.”
“They do that with us, they’re going to be arrested, there are going to be problems. I didn’t say shoot. I didn’t say shoot. But they do that with us, they are going to be arrested for a long time,” Trump said Friday.

It would be very interesting to know how much money us taxpayers paid to replace ballistic glass panels on all of our rolling stock in Iraq. Or, in my experience, how many that were shattered and did not get replaced because we lacked parts.
It was a lot. Although we had one that had all cracked windows that survived a direct blast from a sizeable IED with no casualties. I think the windows had eight panes of glass and only the outer one would crack. I never saw one with more than the outer pane cracked (from rocks).

I had rocks thrown at me every single day in Iraq for a year during one tour. Number of casualties = zero. Sure nobody likes to get rocks thrown at them but it is not deadly force against a soldier wearing a helmet and body armor. Hell, it isn’t even particularly dangerous. Well, according to the story, David’s aim with a sling and a stone was as good as it was because he use his ability with the slingshot to kill wolves that threatened the sheep that he guarded. He was a shepherd, you know, not some desk jockey.
And he is recorded as hitting Goliath in the middle of his forehead, which, if you know anything about brain injuries from football and other impact sports, will knock you unconscious immediately.
I can personally testify to how much that affects you from being smacked in the forehead by a chain crosstie that broke when the horse tied to it backed up and let it fly – and it came right at me, hit me in the center of the forehead and knocked me silly. And yes, I did go to sick call over it, but no concussion, just a warning to wear my hard hat in the barn. And that was a low speed smack in the forehead.

Yep, thought about that myself when I was reading thru. And after Ol’ Big Boy Goliath fell, the whole Philistine Army fell apart and got their azzes handed to them. These modern slingshots make our homemade jobbies look pathetic. Made a many slingshot out a forked branch, some rubber strips off an old inner tube, and the leather tongue off an old shoe. Marbles and ball bearings made excellent projectiles, dove, quail, rabbits, squirrels, and such very easily. Good slingshot ranks up there with crossbows for quiet, deadly, and efficient offensive/defensive weapons. Can’t forget about the bolas (sp?) that the South American Cowboys used. Not really a slingshot, but close.

But now suddenly on walk back rocks don’t actually equal rifles but he just says they do. His “clarification” intends to treat rock throwers not as riflemen but as actual rock throwers.
So what is it all really about? I am guessing trolling and a dog whistle. Those are two of Trump’s biggest strengths. Right after the economy and foreign policy.

In Kuwait I went into a bunker with my M9 drawn and hammer pulled back.
I did not follow the basic safety rules and had my finger on the trigger.
I heard a shot and checked myself for holes.
I had fired the pistol and missed my foot by a couple of inches.
I had also done the tremendously stupid thing of entering and silhouetting myself in the entrance.
Fortunately no one was in there. I found maps, journals and other intel then pulled my head out of my ass and went back to my Bradley.

Make sure that THEY fire off stuff first.
1 – put up nets with a weave about 2.5 inches
2 – make sure that everybody on the US side wears armor on everything, especially their heads and faces
3 – have the pumper trucks and the firehoses standing by, with backup
4 – if the incoming bunch get nasty, turn the hoses on them. If that doesn’t work, then try capsaicin. They use it a lot, shouldn’t hurt too much.
5 – rubber bullets are still okay, aren’t they?
6 – play loud, obnoxious music like ‘Strawberry Fields’ and something in which James Brown screams a lot, like ‘I Feel Good’. There’s also ‘Night on Bald Mountaint’, Rimsky-Korsakov’s music which was used in “Fantasia” long ago. We’ve just passed el Dia de las Muertes. Might give them pause.
