Trump Signs Law To Lower Drug Prices, Ends Gag Orders Against Pharmacists

| October 14, 2018

President Donald Trump signed a law that ends insurance companies’ pharmacist gag clauses in an effort to lower drug prices Wednesday.  Currently, insurers and pharmacy benefit managers use the gag clauses to “forbid pharmacists from proactively telling consumers if their prescription would cost less if they paid for it out-of-pocket rather than using their insurance plan,” according to a press release from Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins, the bill’s sponsor.

Am I the only one the keeps noticing President Trump getting all kinds of things done that go unreported by most of the press?

Collins’s bill also targets “pay-for-delay,” a tactic where a brand drug company pays a generic manufacturer to withhold a product that would compete with the brand drug for market share.

Closing this loophole could save consumers and taxpayers money, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

“Who would think that using your debit card to buy your [prescription] drugs could be less expensive than using your insurance card? It’s counterintuitive. Americans have the right to know which payment method provides the most savings when purchasing their prescription drugs,” Collins tweeted Wednesday after Trump signed the bill.

I guess reducing the price of prescriptions for all Americans is more Russian collusion.  Our President has probably paid millions to keep this all hush hush.

No, people who follow the news notice, too:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-signs-bills-on-drug-prices-today-2018-10-10-live-updates/

https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/10/politics/drug-prices-legislation-signed-into-law-donald-trump/index.html

Plenty more, too. Good on the President for this move.

Well, almost. The NYT’s article is titled, “Trump Signs New Laws Aimed at Drug Costs and Battles Democrats on Medicare” and states:

The legislation on gag clauses has been praised by lawmakers in both parties, but the signing was nearly eclipsed on Wednesday by a separate health care furor: Mr. Trump asserted in an essay in USA Today that Democrats supporting “Medicare for All” would wreck the program for older Americans, infuriating Democrats who said he was lying to millions of Americans.

Not a lot positive about Trump in that.

LC

Well, it was a bit of stealing his own thunder. I fully support the President on signing the bipartisan bills, but his Op Ed in USA Today was pretty ridiculous.

The news doesn’t have to be positive for the President – it should just be news, and let people draw their own conclusions. Getting rid of a gag order on pharmacists that should never have been policy in the first place is unquestionably good. The President writing an op-ed that is one long distortion of facts is not.

OWB

So you are saying that 50% of the news about Trump today should have been positive? Or, since he handled the 50% negative himself, that everything else reported should be positive??

AW1Ed

Main Stream Media has a 92% unfavorable record of reporting on Trump. You are correct, the news should be just that, but it isn’t.

Too bad the MSM has gone bat-shit crazy and lost any credibility it may have had, pre-Trump. I didn’t cherry-pick the NYT article, just clicked on the link provided. I’ve no doubt similar faint praise, if any, will be found on the others. I’m simply not interested in what they have to say, and that’s their fault.

Mason

So the NYT is saying Mussolini made the trains run on time?

No matter what Trump does, he will always been seen by the media as a racist, bigoted, sexist, Nazi-sympathizing tyrant. Probably lost any hope of winning them over when he said he wanted to loosen libel laws.

Who cares WHAT the media says? They are a whining, sniveling, no honor, no integrity, lying, un patriotic, communist, NWO puppet bunch of moronic a.h.’s that are going to find out soon where liars go in the next life!!! imo

SFC D

The news doesn’t HAVE to be positive for the President, just as it doesn’t HAVE to be negative. What it absolutely does have to be is accurate and truthful. And we can all see that is never the case with the MSM.

Bingo!

“Am I the only one the keeps noticing President Trump getting all kinds of things done that go unreported by most of the press?”

No, and there is nothing in either the local newsrag or the Sunday Trib that brings up this subject. Instead, it’s the rant about “Trump anti-humanity and all wrong” because he rejects Bernie Sanders’ call for “Medicare for All”, as it would add ++$30 trillion to government expenses. He also accuses (as always) Trump of insults and slander, but without quotes.

The They will only include what they want the rest of us to hear, see, and read, and never encompass the entire set of issues because doing so will make them look ridiculous.

If we ever do get a fair, middle-of-the road press returned to us, I hope it’s in this century.

OldSoldier54

Me, too, but I’m not holding my breath.

Screw what the Left thinks. I don’t need brainless Hollywoodheads, Ben & Jerry, Starbucks, Microsoft, or any other gazillionaires telling me and mine what’s good for us. And I sure as hell don’t need clueless college twits or their commie professors telling me either. One word: paycheck. Another: 401K. We win.

To this day, I haven’t touched a ben & jerry ice cream product or went into a starfucks.

David

now if we would allow Medicare to use the big stick to negotiate prescription prices… has to be one of the biggest drug-paying programs around, if not THE largest, and yet is not allowed as much negotiation power as you use to buy a used car?

desert

don’t forget the VA…I would bet money, pharmaceuticals are charging outrageous markups on the VA for medicines! imo

Slow Joe

I just heard that Captain America was criticizing Trump. I am so glad that dude ia out of the MCU after the upcoming Avengers 4 movie.

Traitor.

Roger in Republic

One of my idiot democrat senators(Cantwell D, WA) has a new ad out claiming Sen. Collins’s bill as her own. I have challenged her supporters to name one single legislative accomplishment of Ms. Cantwell’s. So far none can do so. Perhaps this year we can can this carpetbagger.

Bill M

Roger, from your lips to God’s ears.

The only time we hear from Cantwell is when she’s running for re-election.
