Weekend Open Thread
I’ve been on the road for over two weeks now, and I still have one more longish leg yet to go. I won’t get home until sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening.
It’s been a good trip. But it’s also been long one – as in 6,000+ miles and still counting.
Still, it’s been worth it. I got to see some friends and relatives I haven’t seen in a while – as well as take care of some necessary family business and meet a few folks. And today, I’ll be spending some time at the range with an old friend engaging in gunpowder therapy while breaking in one of these:

Nothing special – it’s just an inexpensive plinking rifle with a synthetic stock. But it’s probably inherently more accurate than I am these days regarding putting lead where I want it to go. And shooting a .22LR semi-auto is, well . . . it’s just plain fun. (smile)
It’ll also be the first time I’ve had a chance to try out fiber-optic sights. That alone should be interesting.
Good company, plus some gunpowder therapy. I can certainly think of many worse ways to spend the day.
OK, intro’s over. Enjoy this week’s WOT, everyone – and have a great weekend.
—–
ADDENDUM: the little beastie shoots like a dream – one jam in about 120 rounds (and of a type I’d have had to see to believe anyway, so I’m pretty sure it was a fluke), with perfectly reliable operation before and afterwards. The adjustable sights were easy to get roughly zeroed quickly. Only minor quibble was that getting the last round into the magazines was quite difficult before I figured out the trick to doing that. After that, only mildly so.
And, unfortunately, I was right: the rifle is inherently far more accurate than my aim these days. (smile)

First!
Congrats NDH! Enjoy your week on the throne!
First, have a good weekend everyone.
Second, enjoy Ex’s culinary delights.
Third, the above do not pertain to you if you are a member or a supporter of the DRG.
Chicken soup:
Chicken broth
cut up pieces of chicken
pasta or soba noodles or rice or something else filling
carrots peas and chopped onion – frozen is good
seasonings to taste
You can make a perfectly good soba chicken soup with ramen noodles, chicken broth, some soy sauce, dried chicken, dried vegs and some patience.
Or you can also use ramen or soba noodles and chicken broth, plus some soy sauce and chopped kale or bok choy and green onions, and mushrooms.
Whatever, season it to taste, put a sandwich or crackers with it, dig in. Good on a cold Autumn evening.
I think I will get a fake eletric fireplace this fall for my living room. I have tons of work to do. Abd besides, my little black mousekiller gets chilled, too. Right now, she’s in the cat tree under the pink blanket.
Quit complaining. For one thing, chicken soup is good for a cold. For another, it’s nobody we know. – The Far Side
I love shooting my .22 Henry Carbine Lever gun. I try to shoot every day, either that one or my AR-15, or one of my other weapons.
Also, has everyone seen the news that John McCain has stopped his treatment for brain cancer?
If not, here is a link to the story.
https://kdvr.com/2018/08/24/sen-john-mccain-stopping-treatment-for-aggressive-cancer/
May his family know comfort in the upcoming days.
They probably figured out he didn’t have a brain?
May his family find comfort in this trying time.
Let’s not say bad things about a dying man. He will have an accounting at the end of it.
It’s kind of sad that this is what he has come down to, though.
Based on the linked article, he may have been transferred to palliative care. His family will need all the moral and emotional support they could get.
Heard that on the radio today.
Regardless of our opinion of him personally, death by cancer should only bring our sympathies.

First time in TOP 10.
As I checked the info, to do my weekly update of Serial Poser, Kyle Christopher Barwan, I notice that the Florida Department of Corrections has reformatted their page, no longer offering the Height and Weight. How will we know if that protein that he gets every night is adding weight to his skinny assed 5 ft 6 in, 138 pound, crack head body?
Well crap, I forgot to include the link with the details on the Never Special Forces, Never Airborne, Never Ranger, Never an Officer, Never been to England, Never had a rich Mother, Never been a man in any sense of the word, Phony Kyle Christoper Barwan:
http://www.dc.state.fl.us/offenderSearch/detail.aspx?Page=Detail&DCNumber=H50625&TypeSearch=AI
I did an online calendar calculation and old Phony Kyle Christoper Barwan, will be enjoying cock until Sunday, August 11, 2019. Just mark that on your calendar. 😀 😀 😀 😀
His scheduled release date is November 22, 2018; provided he doesn’t screw up and lose the “good time” that he has made. From the State DOC page:
Current Release Date: 11/22/2018
Well THAT sucks. FUCK EM’!
Frankie, I hope someday to post a weekly link to my pos brother in prison!
Have a great weekend!
Speaking of serial posers:

Derek Alldred, talked about here https://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=72502 and http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=68855, has been sentenced for some of his activities.
And that’s a federal sentence, so he’ll serve nearly all of it.
Third? my first time out of the box. Beginners luck?
Most likely, but claim skill.
*grin*
Thanks Ed, but no skill involved I’m thinking. Blind squirrel, stopped clock, etc…😎
You’re not doing it right. Like for the home cook, “This is exactly how I wanted this to be.”
Even if it wasn’t quite up to snuff.
And you would have been third if I hadn’t accidentally dropped by early today. I cam into the house to medicate a dog, and took an early lunch break, and left my comment above.
In before CW’s Trivia Column, here’s the Thinker for the day:
Palindromic Introduction in Eden. (11 letters, begins and ends with “M”)
Enjoy!!

Ding! Ding! Ding!
We have a winner.
Thank You, AW1Ed.
Boy-meets-girl, and the rest is history.
Yup. One of their sons killed another one of their sons, and the folks in the middle east has been killing each other ever since. It’s all Adam and Eve’s fault!
Foul! Objection! Do over! I see “Mad am I, madam?”
Thank you 2/17 Air Cav, your objection has been noted. Sadly, it has been disapproved. However, you may re-submit your objection in 90 days for further disapproval. The TAH staff appreciates your inputs and looks forward to disapproving you again in the future. Feel free to address any issues you may have with this, or any other decision to: AW1Ed.Doesn’t.Care@WTFO.com.
And have a nice day.
You saying that Eve was a madam before meeting Adam??
Thereby proving once again the world’s oldest profession – isn’t.
Someone had to teach her how to charge for it – teachers! And someone had to scare up the grub to trafe for it – hunters! And now you add Madams.
My favorite palindrome: “Naomi, sex at noon taxes”, I moan.
Wow! That’s pretty complex, thanks for the thrill 🙂

Sup Bitches!!
Taking the kiddos to the local minor league baseball farm team, where for a little extra $$ you can sit in the clubhouse and have a buffet, free peanuts and popcorn and a special section just outside to watch the game in the stands and the weather couldn’t be more perfect. Fireworks after the game as well.
Come on 4 o’clock!!
LOL
Cheers ya’ll
Good, good, good. Tonight the local HS football team begins its season. I’ll be there…alone at arrival and in good company once there. Love to watch HS football.
Up here in rural NE Washington our local HS plays 8 man football. It starts with a kickoff and turns into a track meet. Scores of 140 total points are not unheard of. No better way to spend a couple of hours if you like touchdowns.
10th!
Since Claw mentioned me, I think I’ll just drop this here for you all. Enjoy! DID YOU KNOW…? Does a town in Norway need mirrors to reflect light onto its square? By Commissioner Wretched As we regretfully watch summer come to a close, let’s take a moment to reflect. Summer is a period of time delineated on the calendar as running from June 21 though September 22. But you and I both know that summer unofficially starts Memorial Day and ends Labor Day. And Labor Day is just a couple of weeks away. So, while it may yet be too early to do our post-mortem on the Summer of 2018, it may be time to look back and see if we did all we wanted to do during the hottest part of the year. * Did I work? Check. * Did I rest? Check (though not as much as I would’ve liked.) * Did I go on vacation? HA! (Sorry, I went away there for a moment, but I’m back now.) Did I make sure you had the trivia you wanted and needed each week? You bet your bottom dollar I did. And I’ll keep doing it, through the fall, winter, spring, and into next summer – if you want me to, that is. Drop a line to didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com and let me know your thoughts; I always reply. With a tear being shed for a summer that’s slipping away, let’s get to this week’s trivia! Did you know … … a matador traditionally holds a red cape because it was believed that bulls dislike the color red? Science has told us, however, that bulls can’t see red, or any other color – they dislike the motion of the cape, which is why they charge the matador in a bullfight. (And that’s no bull.) … less than 7% of the population donates blood? Even though about 40% of the people are eligible to do so at any given time, most of them don’t. (Shame on you.) … dogs will sometimes fake being sick in order to get attention? (Now, where else… Read more »
There’s also meteorological summer, which begins on June 1 and ends on August 31. Meteorological fall begins on September 1, and so on with the rest of the meteorological seasons. The solstice and equinox start of the seasons fall under the astronomical season category.
Don’t get me started on how many “Twilight” definitions there are.
Weather Link
I know.
I do my distance runs during the predawn hours in the morning, when it’s still dark. I keep track of how much darkness I’ll have, during my runs, during the late spring and summer. 😀
I look at astronomical, nautical, and civil twilight to gauge how much darkness I’ll have during the run… Thus how many stars will be visible… and when to expect the sky to start lighting up.
Not much of an issue during the late summer, during fall, during winter, and during early spring, as both my distance runs and post run cool down take place with the stars still visible and the sky, and the sky mostly or completely dark during the post run cool downs.
Isn’t that just a goofy movie with sparkly vampires?
Okay I hat to do this, but you did ask. 293 ways to make change for a $1 bill. Yes, i did them all in my head too. ADMIN: Please feel free to delete this if you want.
However, it’s a possible longest WOT post! So I got that going for me! 🙂
Don’t hate on me either. Some of us got feelins’ ya know.
No matter how many ways there are, nobody born after 1990 knows how to do it. Making change is becoming a lost art along with writing or resading cursive
Wouldn’t that distinction belong to The Wall of Insults?
Buddy can you spare a dime?
I don’t know what’s more unbelievable … that you actually researched and typed all that … or that I just sat here and read them all.
I had to ask. I just *had* to ask.
About the Sweetwater Tx Rattlesnake Roundup – they at least used to milk them to make antivenom, as well as cook them in a number of different ways.
I believe it all started because that area has a high population of rattlesnakes, and it helps reduce the population somewhat.
As of August 24, 2018, Dennis Howard Chevalier, a.k.a. Denny H Chevalier, phony Gulf War veteran, phony veteran, phony C-130 compass call pilot, phony SWAT veteran, phony retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel… That Dennis Howard Chevalier… Still was arrested on February 27, 2018, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
He pointed a gun at his ex-wife and son, waved a loaded weapon around and pretended to shoot things, threatened an ex-fiancé with putting a round into her head, and then his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
One of these days, he’s going to point his gun at someone, like he has done before… And BHANG! They need to take this guy’s weapons away before he shoots someone.
Here is one link to one the details:

Just google “Dennis Chevalier arrested” to get additional details.

It doesn’t say but, just how much time does Chubby Cheezer have to do?
I believe that he was held on the account of the charges, but later was released. He had a Facebook photo up, taken on March 2018, showing him at what looked like a bar.
I wonder how many dates he’s already had with Bubba, Thor, Julio and “Tiny Tyrone”?
Still sporting those boot camp BC glasses? Nothing says “I’m a Hero, dammit!” like boot camp BC glasses.
Those are an improvement over the BC glasses they had when I came in. But, the late ’70s, early ’80s called and wanted their BC glasses back. They came up with those and other glasses designs… Partly to “catch up with the times”, partly to address troop moral concerns, and for other reasons.
I heard rumor that the year 1971 called ‘Ol Blobfish demanding their frames back!
I still have a pair or two of the original BC glasses. Also, I have two pair of Gas Mask inserts that I finally received during my last year on Active Duty(1985). Didn’t have any corrective insert for my gas mask while in NAM.
Working hard…at going nowhere.
Have a great weekend y’all!
I took a Wal Mart 10/22 and made a tack driver target rifle. All Volquartsen goodies on the inside, bull barrel and thumb hole stock. Parts were more than the original purchase price, but it was fun to build, and more fun to shoot.
“Parts were more than the original purchase price….” Yeah, tell me about it. My wife arranged for me to travel a couple of states away, but a pop-up camper for $500 and haul it back through torrential rains. That was last November. Well, the pop-up that was a steal stunk, had a rotten roof, ancient, stained crap wood, a bed that wouldn’t roll out because the rails were so bent and had been ‘fixed’ with a sledge…and much more. I stripped it down and rebuilt it. Cost? Don’t even ask. Gawd, what I do for love.
Dude, I feel your pain. We’re redoing the master bath, complete with a walk-in tub. My wallet hurts…
Bathrooms and kitchens are pure H E Double-L to redo.
I’d rather redo any part of a house than those, and I don’t want to do any more construction redos ever.
If only I’d known. Got a great little pop-up that will be available as soon as I find the key for it. Two very comfortable queen beds slide out. Everything works, but it hasn’t been used in a couple of years so needs a good clean-up.
Maybe I should hang onto it just in case there is ever a TAH gathering some place that lacks rooms to rent. Could make a fortune, or pay for the locksmith to replace the lock and new keys.
Do you know how stupid easy it is to pick a lock?
I have an original Hi-Standard Victor .22 made in Conn. and the mags worked fine until i took them apart to clean then after putting them back together, I had mag feed problems. Threw away around ten mags and bought new ones. turns out that when I pushed the little mag button, i pushed in the mag sidewall tube which restricted the rounds from coming up. Did some research, and bought a piece of 1/4 in. steel stock and used it as a swage to widen the mag tube to it’s correct width. My 1995 Hi-Standard guide has everything in it to fix problems except this one.
That was so funny I couldn’t laugh. I’m serious. It was like Cartman’s laugh bone being broken when a family with butts for heads came to his door.
25rd and Honorary First once again.
(((OVER)))
Somewheres between NDHoosier “First!” post and the last Dickweed’s post on WOT.
Dark, rainy and dreary here today. So, been busy cleaning bang, bangs….reloading more ammo…cleaned up JD rider & put POR 15 on underside of deck to prevent more rust rot…picked tomatoes, peppers, beans from garden…stopped to smell the roses…came in for lunch…then turning some oak into fine sawdust in the shop.
Life is good being retired.(What the hell was I thinking working all of those years?) (grin)
Have a safe and great weekend all of you fellow (and fellowettes) Dickweeds.
Just laid some aromatic cedar for flooring in a walk-in closet.
I’ve also been spending time putting a finish on raw wood for trim or unfinished furniture. Multiple coats of tung oil appears to work well but doesn’t seem all that durable. I ran across a formula for a wood wax I’m going to try this weekend. You combine the following by heating in a double boiler on the stove. Pour into a container and wipe on with a rag when it cools:
1 oz. pure Carnuba wax
1 oz. pure bees wax
6 oz. food-grade mineral oil
A few drops of cedar oil for scent
Used to build lodgepole pine furniture pre-army, we used equal parts tung oil, varathane, and turpentine. Penetrates deep in the wood and dries rock hard. Not a lot of gloss but really makes the grain pop.
Another 70s rocker moves on to the big gig in the sky. Former Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King calls it a day at 68. Ed wrote or co wrote many of the best known Skynyrd tunes like ‘Sweet Home Alabama’,’Saturday Night Special’, ‘Whiskey Rock a Roller’,’Workin For MCA’, etc. RIP to a real cool dude.
Well, at least he didn’t die in a plane crash.
😀 😀
*runs*
Original member of Strawberry Alarm Clock, too. Talk about a difference in musical styles!
Some say that every time another Rocker dies, Keith Richards experiences the Quickening.
Great as long as you keep your head during a sword fight.
You know, I’m beginning to actually like the investigation that never ends. I’m talking about the Trump/Russia Collusion investigation. Time was that I resented it, knowing that if there had been a scintilla of truth to even the remotest collusion, the rats would have run to a prosecutor. But as it enters its 2nd year(!)the investigation has accidentally unmasked all sorts of knuckleheads, criminals, and Clinton supporters who pretended to be on Trump’s team or pretended to be neutral. The list of such scoundrels seems to grow weekly. And Trump? He’s good. The economy is wonderful. Unemployment is down. Folks are buying. Terrorism fears have subsided. What’s not to like?
Yes, and inflation is a modest but affable 3.1% for July, and the weather is quite lovely today in my kingdom.
What’s not to like is the left not liking our POTUS.
It should wrap up some time in the next administration. Third quarter 2025.
They decide Hillary was innocent before looking at any of the evidence, so this is one they overcorrect on and look at every single piece, twice or thrice.
Who has the Yef watch? He’s been UA for a couple days now.
Maybe he is in the stockade for misbehavior under the influence of more than three Coors or Bud Lights.
I thought he was usually under the influence of floor wax.
Do they STILL have him on Police Call? I thought he was on Quarters from eating one too many daisies!
He’s taking an instructor course of some kind. He dropped a line on Jonn’s obit post, and I’m sure that when he returns, he’ll Yef all of us.
I am a Yefman. He hath won me over. Over.
I am the yefman, they are the yefmen, I am the walrus. Goo-goo-ga-choo.
EX;, that’s it. He’s taking the instructors course and drinking beer. They say that beer makes one smart, because after all it made “Bud” Wiser.
He could be taking the instructor’s Coors…
Groan.
Early weekend, and am going to do my damndest to get my 40 in as early as possible to enjoy a long(er) weekend before heading out west yet again.
And gunpowder therapy. I like the sound of that.
I can’t claim any credit for originating the phrase, NHS – I first saw it in a comment or article by someone else here at TAH. Wish I could remember precisely where so I could give credit where credit is due.
But yeah: both the phrase and the activity are great. (smile)
OK, I’ll take one for the team. Who is this, and how was she victorious?
Really??
You’re probably going to have to push IDC SARC out of the way first……
Michelle Obama before she let herself go?
(Slapping typing finger….yes, I said finger). Never did pass personal typing class using all fingers. Sigh…..
She’s a very personable young lady who has the audacity of being conservative while black. She doesn’t pretend to enjoy living on the lefty plantation and is vilified for that independence. How dare she!
Meanwhile, she talks and acts like an ordinary, patriotic American. Very cool.
Mia Love?
Her name is Candace Owens and she is a conservative who is despised by the left for rejecting victimhood. She’s cute as a button, 27 years old, and I think love her.
There is no one so hated by the left as a person of color who escapes the Proggy Plantation. White SJW proggies have called Candace the N-word for having the temerity to escape the Plantation; and let’s not forget what happened to Dinesh D’Souza when he got too “uppity” for the proggies’ taste: the threw the guy in prison for three years…
Let’s not forget how the left treated Condoleeza Rice while she served in the GW Bush Administration, ditto with COlin Powell. They tarred Secretary Rice as “Aunt Jemima” and Secretary Powell as “Uncle Tom” and “House *BLEEP!*” but as soon as Powell came out for the 0bamas his shit didn’t stink!
You dipshits need to turn in your conservative cards if you don’t know who Candice Owens is. She is da bomb.
Cancace Owens looks a bit like a Black Ali McGraw, from “Love Story” days. She could get on my arm any time.
It ain’t my arm I want her to get on. Self face slap.
Surprised this wasn’t up at TAH already (or did I miss it?). Couple Navy flyboys may be in trouble for unauthorized Lambeau Field flyover … http://www.wbay.com/content/news/Navy-investigating-unplanned-Lambeau-Field-flyover-491307131.html
Hey, at least they didn’t skywrite a penis this time.
What’s wrong about this anyway? Were there NOTAMs declaring this an off limits area? Some scary helicopters flying overhead made some snowflakes think that Canada was finally invading?
I don’t trust that Hardin guy. After a few amorous comments, he’ll probably tell us that it’s a tranny. Still…
I miss the Good Old Days when “Blowing a tranny” meant your car or truck was broken down!
WalMart customer in Automotive section:
“Scuse me. I’m looking for tranny lube.”
“Not here, sir. You want the Pharmacy.”
How about smoking and coking in the Great Lakes Boot camp barracks lounge meant smoking cigarettes and drinking Coca Cola.
I took my car in for repairs once. Fellow said I blew the head gasket.
I told him to keep his nose out of my personal business and fix the car.

While President Trump was taking the oath of office, Pelosi looked like she had choked down a bag full of gummi dicks.
Her appearances in the video. She assures everyone that Trump will never be president. At one point, she recalls that votes hadn’t yet been cast and seems to check herself, only to dismiss the hesitation and assure everyone that, no matter, he just will not be the president.
A momentary lapse in believing her own bs, maybe she does have occasional short spasms into reality after all.
That was at Radio City Music Hall, believe it or not. That band is a scream. “Gimme Your Sushi.”
Uh oh. Ever cmt ABOVE the lead cmt? I just did. Wait. It’s my pc. Yeah that’s it. My pc has gone I, Robot on me.
SPeaking of snotnosed moonbat crybabies, how come nearly NONE of the pissyassed Celebrities that promised to leave the USA if President Trump got elected have lived up to their promise? I hope they start construction on the Border Wall as well, remember the millenial BOYS who promised to make themselves eunuchs if that happened?

Speaking of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Band and Russia:
This has got to be one of the CRAZIEST Version of “SWEET HOME ALABAMA” performed by the Red Army Choir and the Leningrad Cowboys:
The only thing that is missing is an intro by Rod Serling.
NO SHIT!!!
That is one of the strangest things I have ever seen. Really strange. And the ending? Very funny, and utterly appropriate somehow.
I can see FASO instructors down-loading this for inclusion in SERE’s Greatest Hits played over
and over
and over
and over

There’s no discharge in the war!
I STILL can’t believe it, here’s another:
I absolutely love the Leningrad Cowboys’s & Red Army Choir singing Sweet Home Alabama.
I astounded a Finnish-born English Professor when I shared this on FB some years ago. She thought I was way to conservative to know about them.
For those playing the home version of the TAH board game “Who is Dead – Because He Can’t Fly” … Bernath is still dead.
Lawn Dart Danny is still proof that some people should not be permitted to fly aircraft, even light sport aircraft.
Late to the game. Had a rescue call to respond to from my favorite first daughter-in-law, then a run up to see my brother and check on him.
