In pursuit

| July 17, 2018

Las Vegas Sheriff Department released body camera footage of a deputy in pursuit of two suspects involved in an attempted murder. While they tried to escape, the pair fired 34 rounds at police. The deputy in the video returned fire while he was driving. Many shots were fired through his windshield. From ABC News;

The suspects were later identified as Fidel Miranda, 23, and Rene Nunez, 30.

Miranda was declared dead at the scene while Nunez was taken into custody after receiving treatment for a gunshot wound, police said. This is the 10th officer-involved shooting in Las Vegas this year.

Gunfighter. Good job!

sj

Wow? Bet he sill can’t hear anything!

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Tinnitus is a bitch!

The Other Whitey
OldManchu

say again?

Thunderstixx

I had to turn up the volume on my eyeballs to hear what he wrote…

JacktheJarhead

This is like something out of an action movie! Wonder how many hits he got whilst driving.

Arby

More than any hollywood actor in a movie or TV show….

26Limabeans

I’ll guess none through the windshield
and some out the side window and few when he exited the vehicle.

26Limabeans

No Miranda needed

Hondo

He got “Mirandized” all right – via high-speed heavy metal injection therapy.

Bobo

I’m guessing that he’ll be looking for a new employer in a few weeks.

3E9

Not necessarily. Several agencies train to fire through the windshield now. He was certainly within the law to do what he did, not sure what the LVSD policy is though.

26Limabeans

His LEO days are over

Skippy

Probably a award

3E9

Why?

26Limabeans

News media. Stray bullets blah blah..

26Limabeans

I was wrong. Jeff Glor liked it.

SFC D

Statement of charges for the windshield. Then promote ahead of peers.

While I never worked for metro up in Vegas this kind of stuff was par for the course
I worked for gaming control board, I swear every moron and idiot in America
Is drawn to Vegas to make a complete ass out of themselves
It’s one of the reasons why we moved from there a few years ago
I do miss it but fate had other plans for me
The job I had was odd I’d go to work Mad and come home in the evening
Laughing my ass off… the things people do is absolutely amazing

Club Manager, USA ret.

DOT, way to go.
Had a big shootout in West Memphis, AR a few years ago. Bad guys killed a cop, wounded another and were holed up in their van. The shootout was lasting a long time. A Game and Fish Officer rammed the van and firing a heavy duty weapon through his windshield took both bad guys out. That took balls as this deputy clearly had as well. Given the perps names, have to ask were they illegals?

My, My, My

Ballsy for sure. Hopefully LVPD don’t “Academy” his ass.

FYI: There is also a four min video at UK Daily Mail detailing more of the chase, and the shots fired at the officer.

PARANAH

thanks!!!

Academy?

My, My, My

Cross reference (though weak) to the Academy firing.

Sparks

That was not your usual high speed pursuit. This Officer had balls and savvy. Good for him. One fucker dead and hopefully the other dies.

Ex-PH2

I guess the Old Wild West never really died, did it?

Anyone want to take bets on a Ma Barker-type bank holdup? What Butch & Sundance did was mostly rob trains, although they occasionally held up banks, too. Whereas the James brothers and the Youngers, and the Dalton gang went after stagecoaches, trains and banks.

I don’t want to wear out law enforcement, but there’s not a whole lot of difference between now and back then, since it is obviously easy for criminals to get their greasy mitts on weaponry. 🙂

Just sayin’.

SFC D

The Dalton’s got greedy and sloppy. Never, ever try to rob two banks at the same time in your own hometown. Especially when your disguises don’t work and the whole town knows you’re coming. Didn’t help much that the local dry-goods store issued every rifle in the store to anyone that could pull a trigger. Very bad tactics by the Daltons.

Fyrfighter

I’m guessing that dry goods store had no relation to the dicks that run dicks sporting goods…

David

I’m guessing if the dicks who run Dick’s had dicks, they wouldn’t be such dicks and would quit dicking around.

Ex-PH2

I’m just waiting for a major bank robbery in downtown Chicago to happen, just like the 1930s. It’s coming. Nothing will surprise me.

26Limabeans

With Thompsons blazing.

Roh-Dog

Imagine what you would do if someone tried to kill you or your friends.
It would look like this.
Good job, Deputy!

A Proud Infidel®™️

Miranda and Nunez, Amish Anarchists?

Ex-PH2

How about something like robbing big banks instead? Much more exciting. Cash only gets shipped short distances by armored car, so that’s no-go. It still goes by the planeload to Federal Reserve banks. They just don’t talk about it.

Oops!

26Limabeans

Somewhere DB Cooper weeps.

SFC D

DB was ahead of his time. I always hoped he got away with it. Anybody badass enough to attempt that deserves the cash.

Right after the first Golf war, Brink’s was hired to send US currency over to one of the mid east countries which if I remember was Saudi Arabia which was done in three or four trips. JFK Intl Airport would not let us use the facility due to the great Luftansa robbery back in the 1970’s after they learned of the amount of currency that was shipped in and out, which was another reason the Port Authority would not let us build a truck facility with an indoor vault and the company had to aquire a facility on 147 Ave., Springfield Gardens, Queens NY. The Air couriers were volunteers who worked at the Springfield Gardens facility and had to ride with the truck convoy down to the Dover Delaware Air Force Base. One or two of the guys did not own passports so they had to sleep over night in sleeping bags on board the Aircraft. West Point has the Mint next to the ski slopes and our trucks used to go up there and pick up mostly gold coinage. Any currency coming in from the printers IF by aircraft, is delivered by truck to the FRB/FED then routed to the various banks for delivery. The FED in Manhattan for years has not handled coin/currency. It’s done now in Ruthorford NJ. The biggest secret is that the FED in Manhattan is still in business only handling gold/precious metals which holds more than Fort Knox.

That's me in the middle

Ex-PH2

Well, then if I take my dog for a walk in a cornfield and find a buried cache from a 1930s bank robbery in downtown Chicago, at a bank no longer in business, is it mine or the Fed’s?

I’ve heard of stranger things, FWIW.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Ex-PH2; Since you mentioned valuables transported by armoured car’s, scroll down and check out the Gigantic pic myself and two co workers. I’m The guy in the middle. I had to forward it to Jonn because I am not computer savy. Bill on left, Marine Vet and guy on my right is a first Golf War Army Vet. Pic was taken behind the Bulova Watch building across from La Guardia Airport. The truck was empty when pic was taken.

Ex-PH2

Must not have been dark. You’re not wearing those sunglasses. (Thanks, Blues Brothers!)

HMC Ret

The only problem I have with this shooting is that only one douchebag got killed.

Ex-PH2

It would work much better if the cop cars had sunroofs that could slide open and a platform for one cop to stand on, shooting at the Bad Guys while the other one drives.

SFC D

FatCircles0311

Haha that was crazy. Don’t think he followed procedure but hopefully his career isn’t ruined because of it. This copper no doubt saved lives here but not letting these two get away. He should be commended frankly.

Sapper3307

My ears are ringing just watching this,

Fyrfighter

Impressive shooting, like others said, I hope he was withing regs, and doesn’t face any action because of it. That being said, what the hell kind of a tactical reload was that???

crucible

With this level of adrenaline, rage, fear that officer must have been experiencing, I’m willing to cut some slack on the momentarily fumbled reload…..stuff happens.

And despite all the above, he fixed it and got right back in the fight and stopped it.

Damned fine work.

OWB

We also don’t know how many cars he avoided sideswiping in the process. Reloading while driving is a whole different thing from doing so standing in from of a target even when nobody is shooting back at you.

OWB

or “front of a target”

LIright47

Best video of its type I’ve ever seen.

Incredible!

ME, MYSELF AND I

The only video I’ve seen that might compare would be from BLUE ASH, OHIO from several years age. The suspect was trying to out run the cops about 2400 one night. 4min video of the chase and final shootout. suspect was DRT.

ME, MYSELF AND I

” from several years age” should read
” from several years ago”.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Hopefully he doesnt ‘Aim for the bushes’ in next weeks Supercop episode

OldManchu

The perps thug cousins are thinking “Man I hope the po-po didn’t damage those awesome rims and custom tail light cover.”

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I started buying the Concealedcarryuniversity.com gun fighting DVD’S because of the bad habits I’ve had for years. I want to make this comment very ‘SHORT.” One of the DVD’S was about shooting from inside/outside vehicles and it was mentioned that you would have to watch the angle that you fire your weapon through a windshield because modern windshields are curved and the bullet has a tendancy to arc and follow the windshields curve until you fire enough rounds through it to make a hole in the glass.

That's me in the middle

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

That’s me in the middle. Sent this pick because of the comments on bank robberies and the old gangsters shooting up the place during Prohibition.

Roger in Republic

I always figured that the first .44 mag hollow point would make a hole big enough to put a 12 ga. shotgun through. The muzzle blast alone might just push the whole windshield out.

The Other Whitey

I’m surprised he didn’t sacrifice his left thumb with that shooting grip he used. That being said, he seems to have put his rounds on target effectively, if not very cleanly. A running gunfight down a populated street like that is not the kind of thing I’d want to risk.

One of my cousins just finished LV Metro’s academy. I’ll have to ask her.
