Apparently this occurred at Lake Murray near Columbia, SC. No mention of a boating incident or any other details as of yet.

That sucks. Guy is THIS close to closing out a career and enjoying retirement. Peace to his family.

AZtoVA

On transition leave, even. Old Soldiers are supposed to fade away, sir!

Coroner: U.S. Army general died of natural causes while on leave at Lake Murray.

Judging from the 2011 picture at Drum, he wasn’t inspiring to his former soldiers. Or maybe 10th Mountain NCOs forgot to teach “How to sit when a general is talking.”

They’re thinking ” will this old fart shut up so I can get back on my phone”

Prolly.

I think there ought to be a rule for farewell speeches. They may not exceed one minute for each decade of service. For the extra years, round down for less than 5 years and up for more than 5. Thus, 34 years = 3mins; 39 years = 4 mins. Troops may begin to file out if the speaker exceeds his allotment.

Rest in peace Sir. God be with your family.

Rest in Peace.

Younger folks daydream about retiring, of enjoying the good life after decades of working. Regrettably, the plan and actuality don’t always agree. I’m sorry for his wife, especially.

You NEVER know. I’m sitting in the hospital after getting a stent in my heart a couple hours ago. Artery 90% blocked.

Woke up Monday morning and thought my time was up. They pressure in my chest was incredible.

Sucks getting old.

Cherish EVERY day. You never know when the grim reaper will call.

Rest in peace, sir

MrBill

What a blessing that they caught it in time! Best wishes for many more healthy years.

MustangCryppie

Thanks Bill!

I’m not going to let this slow me down!

Forget that “aging gracefully” crap. I’m fighting kicking and screaming all the way! Glad you’re sticking around, MC

MC I had a quad bypass 7 years ago. Kicked the Pall Malls at the same time.
Stay well.

MustangCryppie

Thanks to all for the kind wishes.

2/17 Air Cav

Please accept my well wishes, too, MC. And leave the nurses the hell alone.

MustangCryppie

Heh!

2/17 Air Cav: Can’t help from chuckling when I read your advice to MC about nurses, considering both genders now fill that occupation…😉

You are so right. When I was a kid, maybe 10, I recall a riddle that would be a no-brainer today. It had to do with a doctor who can’t operate on a patient b/c the patient is the doctor’s child. Anyhow, the answer to the riddle was that the doctor was the child’s mother, not father. Like I said, it would be a no-brainer nowadays.

MustangCryppie,

GLAD YOU ARE STILL AROUND! Hang in there and as you can see, we are all thinking of ya.

MustangCryppie

Thanks.

Welcome to the club. Two heart surgeries and a computer in my chest. Amazing what they can do. My motto is, as long as I owe them money, they will find a way to keep me alive. Good luck and remember to exercise and only smell the bacon.

MustangCryppie

“…only smell the bacon…”

THAT will be a bitch!

2/17 Air Cav

It’s too damn expensive, anyway. I’m no penny pincher but I won’t buy 12 oz of bacon for $5.49 or so, especially when that 12 oz turns into 5 oz after draining the fat. Screw that.

OWB

Hang in there MC! Only good wishes coming your way.

MustangCryppie

Thanks OWB!

Get better, but the thing is to accept Jesus and his forgiveness, then you don’t worry about dying..you know where you are going and its FANTASTIC!

UpNorth

Glad you got to the hospital in time for the procedure, MC. Best wishes.

AnotherPat

Wow, MC…glad to know you are doing well. Hope you get some much needed rest while you are recovering in the hospital.

NHSparky

The fact you are doing that speaks volumes about the improvement in quality of medical care these days.

That being said, rest up and get better.
