Deciphering a confusing FOIA submission, it looks like he enlisted in the National Guard on December 5, 2008, went to basic training on May 4, 2009 and then went home on May 20th. 16 days of active service;

I retired in 1994 so things might have changed.
Ron Etzig says he did Air Assault at Benning; he was supposed to do it at Bragg, but the class was filled up.
What? Is the Air Assault School no longer at Ft. Campbell? I’ve been retired for about 24 years now, so things might have changed …. but when I was in, the only AA school was at Campbell. This sounds to me like saying “I did Jump School at Ft. Campbell because the one at Bragg was filled up.”(which stopped their jump school ca 1964).
When I was in Hawaii in the early 80s, they had an air assault school up and running at Schofield Barracks’ East Range. Not sure if it was operated by 25th ID or USARPAC. One of the guys in my mortar platoon went and got his Bullwinkle, and was qualified to do sling loads of our platoon vehicles and gear when we were helilifted during FTXs…
I was active duty and guard and yes there is a AA school at Campbell
One for the guard at atterbury, In and I do believe benning and Bragg
They added schools during the 2006-2013 and then would drop them
The guard had a re-mos 19D cav school in Idaho that I believe was closed down a few years back…
Benning’s was open for sure in 09-11 when I was an instructor at 2-29IN (Small arms cadre), I’m almost positive it was open in fall 05 when I was on harmony church for training. The sign was up when I was there August of last year… I’m pretty sure it’s been Nasty Girl ran the whole time.

I remember there once was an AA school at Schofield Barracks, but I think that was closed in the 80s — when I got my Bullwinkle-Badge (81). As I recall, Campbell then became the only location to conduct the AA school.
My-oh-my, how things change.
The 25th’s AA school was open in ‘02 when I got there, stayed open until both BDEs went forward, 04/05 time frame*, it reopened at sometime in 07* after 2nd SBCT’s Stryker OpNet was complete*.

I spent 19 days picking up after Hurricane Harvey.

I spent more than 16 days in the jungle humping a ruck and a rifle on my first op in the field in the Viet of the Nam.
I spent more than 16 days just getting there. Hell I spent more time than this guy just sitting on a duffle bag.
Things haven’t changed all that much. Between predeployment unit inprocessing at HQ, CRC, travel, and admin delay due to the USAF losing some of my gear (and needing to get an emergency issue replacing some of it in Kuwait), it took me more than 16 days to deploy to the “hot” part of the sandbox in the mid/late-2000s.
