The Navy doesn’t remember his career like Tony remembers it;
Tony’s summary sheet shows that he served just over 3 years in the Navy and was discharged as an AR (E-1) and only received the National Defense Service Medal. His first duty station was at NAS Miramar which it looks like shore duty. Tony’s second duty station was the USS Kitty Hawk, during his time there the USS Kitty Hawk was deployed to Western Pacific Indian Ocean and returned on July 9, 1974, but Tony transferred on June 20, 1974 to be discharged. Based on Tony’s summary sheet it shows NO BUD/S (UDT-R), NO combat Diver, NO UDT/SEAL Team, NO Combat Action Ribbon, NO Vietnam Service and NO E-5.

Again, no harm no foul. Naval Air Station Miramar is now Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, but is still in San Diego, California, the land of fruits, nuts, and flakes.
I suppose the best claim to fame Miramar, Florida has is that it’s not in California.
Miramar, FL is about 45 minutes from Homestead Air Reserve Base (formerly Homestead AFB).
AFAIK, closest Navy base to Miramar, FL is Key West to the south or Mayport/Jacksonville to the north.

Frankie Cee; Miramar is in Broward County and I wrote in the above comment that I THOUGHT that the Naval base was in Miramar, Fl. I did not that it was in California. I’m in Palm Beach County. My mistake. I hope I don’t get 10 lashes over my mistake with a wet noodle.
Three Naval Air stations that I know of in Florida are, NAS Mayport, at Jacksonville, NAS Key West at Boca Chica Key, and NAS Pensacola at P’cola. There could be more, but I am not that Naval minded.

As I recall, when in the Viet of the Nam, no one referred to the VC as Uncle Charlie. The more common parlance, other than the VC or “hated Cong,” was “Chuck” or “Charles.” But the NVA was the best (worst for us), because they had the training, the guns and the gear. They had 122mm rockets which could do quite a bit of damage if they hit anything significant.

Try a Google search for: “Tony Rambonga”. There’s several entries with his false claims. He works for or had been employed by the San Francisco Department of Veterans Medical Center. I wonder if he submitted his correct DD-214 for veterans points in hiring? The 5 Apr 03 edition of “San Francisco Chronicle” highlighted him in an article: ‘HEALING ART / Veteran’s war-themed work stirs memories, reflections at VA hospital’. He is also a volunteer at Pacific Coast Air Museum.
