From the Air National Guard Director…

Air National Guard Director

Many of you have seen and commented to me about the recent Facebook post of an Airman in our beloved Air National Guard, taking the re-enlistment oath while using a dinosaur hand puppet. I understand your outrage and frustration.

Let me say, I’m equally shocked and dismayed by this event that mocks such a cherished and honorable occasion. The oath of office or enlistment not only signifies our commitment to our nation, but pays respect to our fellow service members and to those who came before us. We as military members answer to a calling of service and represent the Profession of Arms. This action goes against our very foundation. Tennessee National Guard leadership is aware and addressing the issue.

This single act does not reflect the selfless dedication and professionalism shown everyday by the outstanding Airmen of our Air National Guard in their service to our great nation.

The airman is a female. She gets a free pass.

Both of them are idiots.

Stick a fork in them, they’re done.

Statement from MG Terry M. Haston, The Adjutant General-Tennessee

I am certainly aware of a recent Facebook video post depicting a Tennessee Air National Guard Senior NCO re-enlistment.

I am absolutely embarrassed that a senior officer and a senior NCO took such liberties with a time-honored military tradition. The Tennessee National Guard holds the Oath of Enlistment in the highest esteem because that oath signifies every service member’s commitment to defend our state, nation and the freedoms we all enjoy. Not taking this oath solemnly and with the utmost respect is firmly against the traditions and sanctity of our military family and will not be tolerated.

The Tennessee National Guard leadership as a whole is appalled by the actions of these individuals which do not represent our nation’s service members nor the Airmen and Soldiers of Tennessee. The selfless dedication to our State, Nation that these men and women exhibit on a daily basis is without question.

Over the past few days, the leadership of the Tennessee National Guard has conducted a thorough investigation of the event with the following results:

The Colonel (O-6) administering the oath was immediately retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (O-5).

The Senior NCO taking the oath has been removed from her full-time position with the Tennessee Joint Public Affairs Office and other administrative actions are underway.

The Senior NCO who recorded the event has been removed from his position as a unit First Sergeant and has received an official reprimand, but will be retained in the Tennessee Air National Guard.

The actions of these three individuals in no way represent the professionalism, honor, and courage of the 14,000 Soldiers and Airman in the Tennessee National Guard. This act does not define our organization nor the men, women, and families that sacrifice so much every day for our state and nation. I am truly honored to lead such a professional organization.

I’m VERY glad to hear they aren’t playing patty-cake with the guilty parties, IMHO and that of many others, their asses OUGHT to be grass, THANKS for the update!!!

I stand corrected, their are people dumb/ignorant enough to do this. Now I wonder what some folks do at these events?

I read the happy ending this morning. 3 days from reporting to getting bitch slapped by everyone who could get in on it.

I’ve heard of stepping on your dick but this is above and beyond. I hope it was worth it to them and one more thing. I am glad at least he is out. I don’t want someone with that poor judgement and who takes his military position as lightly as he did in any position of leadership

HMCS(FMF) ret

They didn’t just get Bitch slapped… they, as one MGEN Ayers would say, got the dogshit hammered out of them for their actions.

OWB

Second best possible outcome, first being that these fools hadn’t pulled this at all.

Kudos to the AG for taking corrective action swiftly. That attitude much better reflects the members of the Tennessee ANG with whom I interacted over the years than did the much publicized idiots featured in the vid. They are a disgrace.

Yes, this is personal. When you ridicule the oath that we all took, you attack us all. I wouldn’t trust any of them to get the garbage to the curb much less something important like whatever small part they played in our national defense.

Well done AG Well done.

How an O-6 and a E-7 could possibly think that was ok under any conditions is beyond me. Film or no film, kids or no kids they are a disgrace to the uniform and service I spent 30 years in. I also believe the Col got off light.
