Brucie Does Good
Longtime readers know I don’t think that much of Bruce Springsteen. Politically, I regard him as an idiot; and he’s also IMO a hypocrite as well (take a look at his “agriculural exemption” for his multimillion dollar mansion in NJ).
Still, when youre on the road for a loooong time, a change of pace musically is sometimes needed. So I recently popped Brucie’s “Greatest Hits” CD into the player.
I generally find Springsteen’s music shallow and at best listenable; but it’s also generally nothing I’d go out of my way to hear. But I’d forgotten about this tune – which is IMO certainly worth listening to.
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally. Ya done good there, Brucie.
Category: Pointless blather, Who knows
I always got a kick out of people outside of NJ thinking he was “from” Asbury Park, when in fact he was raised in white-bread Freehold NJ.
I never got in line with the theory I should “like” him just because we were born in the same hospital in the same state, but I used to see him around now and again, I’ll say this much for him, when he’s out and about on his motorcycle, he does his darnedest to look like an everyday schlub that most wouldn’t give the time of day to, and not some flashy rocker.
Bikers from the American Legion were to nice to leave Bruce & his broken down motorcycle stranded on a lonely stretch of road in the Jersey Boondocks.
Im guessing you mean nice enough not to leave him stranded…
And Freehold is faaaaaar from the Boondocks.

The only tune he did that I liked was his cover of “Pink Cadillac”. Good bass line and well mastered in the studio.
Otherwise, meh.
I wish I had the ability to separate the work from the person. If I did I wouldn’t be down to watching Swamp People on tv.
Bruce who, never heard of her.
If these singers just stuck to music and not to politics, I would like them as well as the Hollyweird actors and actresses whom make big moola shmoola and yet hate this country and capitalism. I don’t go to the movies but I watch the old TCM flicks with actors and actresses who served their country. They are all gone now. So screw bruce, neil diamond and all the other shitheads.
I like a few of his songs but IMHO he’s just another head-up-his-ass limousine liberal when it comes to politics, I’ll never spend money on his music.
To me, Springsteen’s music ranks just slightly above Comcast ‘on hold’ muzak.
Both are still better than Nickleback…..sorry for that one guys.
And….Bieber, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Barenakedladies, Alanis Morisette, Shania Twain and any other hoser ‘Ear-Rapists’ I may have forgotten.
Even Nickleback doesn’t like Nickleback.
And you Canuks can keep Neil Young, too. The ’60s were not kind to the burned-out stank ass hippy.
I dont like that patchouli stinkin’ greaseball anyway.
“Well, I hope Neil Young will remember
A southern man don’t need him around anyhow”
Indeed….
The best thing he did was stop disco.
Best song was “Born to Run.”
Live version. Still a great tune !!!
“Chrome wheel, fuel injected, steppin’ out over the line”.
At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines”…
I hate him for his politics, but he did write a few great tunes !!!!
Springsteen didn’t stop Disco.
Disco had a fatal heart attack one day caused by the stress of embarrassment…
“Death Before Disco” Battle Cry of the E-4 Mafia “zipper heads” in my pre Dustoff days with the Big Red One.
Atlantic City by The Band…Bruce wrote it but Levon made it amazing
His politics aside, I listened to Springsteen’s album Born to Run until the needle wore through the vinyl. I make no apologies for that. Today, I have none of his music and haven’t had for many years. He got old. I got old. And somewhere along the line we parted company.
When I was stationed at Fort Monmouth in the early 90s I got acquainted with the area and learned some lessons that made Bruce even less interesting to me than the fact that his music is…well…JV level at best.
First and foremost, was that while the Freehold and Eatontown areas are mostly working class and very diverse (and had been for generations), Bruce attempted to paint the area as white racism central USA or poverty row USA. Neither are true, although Asbury Park’s drug culture did create a pretty nasty poverty problem for the drug users.
As with most of these “artists”, the truth is what kills their message.
I’m from and live in NJ, I am definitely not a fan of BS(perfect initials for Brucie) Were about the same age, he being just a couple of years older. I have been on & off part of the blues music scene here in NJ with my 6 string and harmonica, for quite a few decades.
The most note worthy Springsteen tale I have is I saw him at the Stone Pony in 74 when I came home on a leave and everyone was raving about him and the E Street Band, frankly I couldn’t hear what the big deal was. The other story, I am not a witness too, only heard this thru the years from the culprit, I have this good friend who confronted him when BS came around to visit my friends GF at the time at her apartment in the Atlantic Highlands, well he ended up punching Bruce in the face and knocking him out, back in 75.
I also feel the same way about that other Jersey hypocrite rock god type Bon Jovi, they both suck musically and politically IMO…..Give me Stevie Ray & Jimmie Vaughn and a 100+ other blues & jazz players before those 2 turds, Jersey does have some really great but unknown blues & jazz players that are far more talented and put both BS and BJ and as far as guitarist they put Van Zandt and Sambora to shame (once again perfect initials BS & BJ)
My Hometown is about white people killing blacks, because it’s all their fault for the town failing.
Fuck racist Bruce.
Not a fan at all…I think that a majority of his “fans” are only fans because they were told that they like him…nation of sheep
