Effingham County to become sanctuary for 2nd Amendment
Ex-PH2 sends us a link to the Effingham Daily News which reports that the Effingham County, Illinois Board is contemplating local legislation that would make the county a sanctuary for gun owners.
[Effingham County State’s Attorney Bryan] Kibler explained the goal is to protect those people affected by future state legislation by prohibiting the county from enforcing “unconstitutional actions.” He drew a parallel with actions in other fields.
“If you can be a sanctuary county for undocumented immigrants, why can’t you be one for firearms?” Kibler said.
He explained that the section, like the rest of the resolution, is largely symbolic.
“I was in a really surly mood when they sent that to me,” said Kibler.
The legislative committee voted 8-1 on Monday to advance the resolution to the full county board. Board Member Karen Luchtefeld voted no, saying she hadn’t had enough time to review the resolution.
From WANDTV;
“We’re southern Illinois people,” [Lew] Slater said. “We come from all walks of life and it seems like we get a lot of laws crammed down on us and they don’t appear to be very well thought out.”
And that’s where some members of the Effingham County Board want to step in.
“Effingham County is a gun-friendly county,” said vice chairman David Campbell.
Campbell proposed a resolution to make Effingham County a sanctuary county — not for undocumented immigrants — but for gun owners.
“We’re standing with the Second Amendment firmly and we’re backing the Constitution,” Campbell said.

Back in 2002, after I was mobilized to active duty in support of NOBLE EAGLE, I drove from the east coast to Fort Bliss TX to report for duty there. On my way to Bliss, I passed through Effingham IL on I-70 and decided to laager there for the night.
Folks were friendly in that town as I checked into a local motel and decided to dine at a local family-owned buffet in town. The lady running the buffet was very nice and everybody there was small-town friendly.
I’ll be happy to stop in Effingham and spend my money there if I ever pass through that way again…
Kind of like an Every Morning Feel Good Story.
It will be if it passes. For the wailing and gnashing of teeth heard at the State level, if nothing else.
Iroquois County, southeast of Chicago on the IL-IN border, passed the same resolution in March. Effingham decided to follow that example.
I hope other counties do something similar.
For a second there I thought it was Effingham New Hampshire. Not gonna happen there.
No need to.
Hell, all the gun stores within 30 miles of the VT border are shitting themselves over Vermont’s stupidity.
And what I like is when I get my CCW permit, there is NO record of it with the local PD. Nobody but me, Mrs. Sparky, and God knows until I go to renew it.
I thought it was a swear word, like effing gham, but I couldn’t recognize the word gham, and when I asked Hey Google, the stupid AI didn’t understand my furriner accent and thought I was saying effing guns. My stupid smartphone doesn’t speak Yefnglish.
There’s an Effing Brew Company in the county.
As I found in pursuing this objective, Iroquois County is also a gun owner sanctuary county, with the resolution passed in March this year.
I can only hope other counties in the state will follow these examples. A lot of people go hunting in the fall, winter and spring.
Sound like there are some good people with common sense in Effingham County
If you get away from Chicago and the collar counties, the rest of the state IS populated with common sense.
WLS used to air the ditty:
Just outside Chicago
There’s a place called Illinois
My Lincoln Land Community College roommate was from a farming family in Effingham; I went home with him one weekend and had “fresh-pulled” milk. Best milk I ever drank.
Perfect analogy for last election…if you ever see a map of how many places vote conservative versus the liberal city enclaves, the wisdom of the electoral college becomes clear. For all that she won the popular vote, Hillary’s voters were primarily crammed into a tiny percentage of the overall country. Now if we could get rid of gerrymandering and winner-take-all…
You’re absolutely right. The electoral college is brilliant in how it provides balance. As the country expanded beyond the original 13 it became even more obvious what a great system it is.
I also love how the media and coastal elites always talk about getting rid of the electoral college. Like the 3/4 of the country it provides a voice to would willingly let it go.
If I recall correctly, three metro areas (NYC, LA, and Chicago) provided Clintoon’s supposed popular vote margin.
Given the potential for vote fraud and demonstrated past instances of same in each of those metro areas, without a full investigation I regard that supposed popular vote margin as suspect.
I have long been of the opinion that if the left rear is the righteous majority who truly wants what’s best, then why do they have to lie?
‘Why do they have to lie?’
Congenital brain damage caused by the mind shift to the left.
If we ever get around to that “convention of States” proposing amendments, my suggestion would be to mandate an Eletoral College by Counties for all State Governor elections.
That would put a fairly big dent in the current rule by 1-2 big cities in many states.
…
At what point does he current situation in several states cease to be “a republican form of goverment”? The Constitution, in Article IV ection 4 guarantees to the states a republican form of government.
That really seems to have fallen through the cracks….
Sounds like my kind of people, good God fearing people that won’t take crap off anyone! I wonder how many home invasions they get up there? How many end up in the casket?
What a sad state of affairs we find ourselves in that a county feels compelled to be a sanctuary for one of our Bill of Rights guaranteed freedom.
“It seems like we get a lot of laws crammed down on us and they don’t appear to be very well thought out.”
And that right there is the reason why a new California subdivision proposal has already picked up 700,000 signatures and will likely be on the ballot, though Moonbeam and his leftist ilk are scrambling to find a way to obstruct it. More and more people are getting sick of shithole cities hundreds of miles away dictating their lives.
Ooooo! That almost sounds – well, secessionist, TOW!
The California secession proposal has barely even been noticed, despite supposedly “unprecedented” support. The Cal3 subdivision, though, has the parasites in LA and San Francisco, and their bought & paid-for puppets in Sacramento worried. Why? Because if those cities are excised from the new states and can no longer dictate to San Diego, NorCal, or the agricultural Central Valley, then who will they rob to pay for their bullshit? Hell, one of them came right out and admitted it yesterday, saying that “social programs will go unfunded.” 700,000 signatories and millions of likely voters said, “That’s the point, fucker!”
Bingo!!
Effingham High School got an award a couple of years ago for an engineering design project that some of its students had put together.
And my old high school, in another county WAY south of Chicago, is now the elite school to send your kids to if you want them to get into the high end universities.
Kudos to them and I hope it passes! From what I saw in my travels across the US as a Trucker, IL is a lot like NY State when it comes to politics, area-wise it’s pretty much a Red State but Chicongo and Cook County make it go blue in Senate and Presidential elections, ditto with NYC and NY State.
In an odd coincidence this morning, in the local news rag, there is a story about suburban communities trying to lure millennials to move to the ‘burbs, using a cartoon comic strip as a means of advertising. If those millennials move out to the collar counties, then Cook County loses all that tax money. And since not all millennials are as stupid as their counterparts in the SJW set, if it’s a lower crime rate, better facilities and a house with a yard that doesn’t tax you to death, they’ll move. And there goes the CTU’s pension fund and union crap. (gigglesnort)
The Feds are going to have fun with that place.
Trolling again, lily? Or providing proof you’re an imbecile?
Only a moron would try and claim that this proposed county ordinance is aimed at Federal law. It’s obviously aimed at Illinois state laws infringing on rights guaranteed by the US Constitution and endorsed by the SCOTUS. Federal LE has no jurisdiction to enforce state law.
So, either you’ve just proved to everyone that you’re a moron – or you’re trolling. Which is it?
Hondo,
Embrace AND…
It’s entirely aimed at offsetting the egregiously overbearing crap going on in the state legislature and in particular, Cook County.
It has nothing – zero, zip, nada, rien – to do with any federal laws at all.
Out Effing Standing!
So can we have a sanctuary city here in Florida where I can keep my legally acquired bump stocks?
As of October, I become a felon if I keep them here
Each state and each city can now decide which laws they will follow
I would move to which place allowed me to continue to enjoy simulated full auto fire
I wonder if the SoCal unincorporated mountain town I live in would adopt a resolution declaring it a sanctuary for AR-15s with detachable magazines and GI mag releases. Given the number of Gadsden flags, NRA/CRPA/CalGuns bumper stickers, and the like around here, I think there’s a chance!
Bring it up some time. The County of Iroquois released a pdf of their March resolution/legislation making Iroquois County a gun owner sanctuary county, supporting the 2nd Amendment.
That would be Liberty County. Anybody remember this story?

I’d imagine we’re coming up on a time when fast-acting gun-collection laws could round everything up and destroy them before those laws can even be declared unconstitutional. Maybe these flatlanders have the right idea.
Nah, they’re not brazen enough to actually round them up. They’ll just pass a series of increasingly strict laws. Eventually I see it getting to a point where if you have a gun in your house, it will be deemed unsafe for children and the state will either offer to take your gun for safety or take your kids, you know, for the children.
