Trump to send troops to the border

| April 4, 2018

Mick sends a Fox News link which reports that the President threatened to send troops to our border with Mexico until he can get a wall built;

A White House official revealed later Tuesday to Fox News that the plan considered by Trump would be a “substantial” mobilization of the National Guard.

“Until we can have a wall and proper security, we’re going to be guarding our border with the military,” he said. “That’s a big step, we really haven’t done that before, or certainly not very much before.”

At a news conference later, he confirmed the plan, saying the border is unprotected by “our horrible, horrible and very unsafe laws.”

“We don’t have laws, we have catch-and-release,” he said. “You catch and then you immediately release and people come back years later for a court case, except they virtually never come back.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time a President has sent troops to secure the border. CNN remembers;

Under President George W. Bush, a border deployment of the National Guard known as Operation Jump Start started in 2006 and lasted two years. The operation sent more than 6,000 troops to California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas to repair secondary border fence, construct nearly 1,000 metal barriers and fly border protection agents by helicopter to intercept immigrants trying to enter illegally.

In 2010, the Obama administration deployed National Guard troops as part of a border protection plan.

Officials in 2010 said up to 1,200 National Guard troops would be in place along the US-Mexico border for up to a year to assist US Customs and Border Protection with surveillance and intelligence gathering while the agency worked to hire additional staff.

And in 2014, as a surge of unaccompanied minors from Central America crossed into the United States, Texas Gov. Rick Perry announced the activation of up to 1,000 National Guard troops to help secure the southern border.

The President is reacting to the swarm of Hondurans marching through Mexico to get to our borders and Mexico doesn’t seem motivated to stop the crowd of more than a thousand, even though Trump has threatened them with the NAFTA negotiations.

President Trump threatened the Norkies with further sanctions and now they say they want to negotiate thus I say let the President threaten to hit the ultra-rich that really rule Mexico right in the pocketbook which will make them perk up and listen! As for using the Military to patrol our Border hey, “…against all Enemies, Foreign and Domestic,…” and this latest horde headed our way looks like an invasion to me, no telling how many gangsters, pimps, rapists, murderers, etcetera are among their ranks.

Instinct

“no telling how many gangsters, pimps, rapists, murderers, etcetera are among their ranks.”

My guess, all of them.

Mason

The pimps are easy to spot.

They look and walk like so:comment image?itemid=4629390

desert

That ought to light a fire under the dumocraps asses! Especially if the troops shoot a few of the invading bastards! Mexico has a great side business worth billions, send you culls, your diseased, your perverts, your gang members to the US and send us money! Bring back Ellis island, where they have to have a sponsor, a health report, a trade or education, become citizens and support the U.S.of A.!! imho

Claw

Easy fix.

Entire 3rd Armored Cav out of Fort Bliss roadmarches all equipment to Fort Irwin via the southern/southern route.

In-Route Maintenance Collection Points/Points of No Return coincide with the gaps in the wall.

Problem solved./smile

E-6 type, 1 ea

Sadly they dropped the Armored part, and are now just the 3d CR. Also they are stationed at Hood not Bliss.

It’s really too bad, because I can’t think of a more perfect show of force than a squadron’s worth of Abrams battle-carrying canister rounds.

Claw

OK. Got it now. Must have been thinking in my mind with not enough coffee and got the 1st Armored Division confused with the 3rd ACR.

I guess when the 3rd moved in and then moved out of Carson I thought they went back to Bliss where they had came from.

Just a side note, I was at Bliss in 1972 when the 3rd ACR moved down there from Fort Lewis and my outfit (1/3 ADA) had to vacate the buildings that they took over. They chased our asses out to MacGregor Range to complete our training before we unit moved to Fort Campbell.

Fun Times./smile

Dinotanker

Claw,

THANK YOU! I had thought I was going a little bonkers.

I seem to remember a sign alongside I-5 back in the late 60s that said something like the 3rd Cavalry welcomes you to Fort Lewis. We lived in Edmonds at that time, my maternal grandparents lived in Shelton, so we would regularly do that run about once a month. NONE OF MY BROTHERS REMEMBERED THE SIGN, or that the 3rd was stationed at Ft Lewis.

Senility has not set in quite yet! 🙂

Carlton G. Long

I was with the 3rd ACR when I was station at Bliss 90-92. We invaded Juarez on a weekly basis.

jim h

a couple here and there are illegal crossers. a horde being aided and abetted by multiple agencies within a foreign government, is an invasion.

as another poster noted in a different article on the subject, this is a test for the president. I pray he passes it.

Yef

But, think of the children!

The Other Whitey

Don’t lead ‘em as much!

rgr1480

LoL!

Fire mission:
* South, 200 km.
* Women and children in the open, kneeling in prayer.
* Airburst. Fire for effect.

(((( OVER ))))

No, I don’t really advocate artillery on civilians … it just reminded me of what we used to say, jokingly.

A Proud Infidel®™

FUCK IT, find the MS-13’s and mark their location with Willie Pete!

OldManchu

I advocate artillery on civilians… if they are shooting at you.

Flagwaver

Are you kidding? They’re a smaller target and sometimes faster than the adults. Not to mention, they tend to run in groups. It’s just easier to use area denial on them. One good 203 round and you can take out a bunch of them!

Graybeard

Provide the Troops with plenty of ammo and make the ROE clear that anyone crossing the border without proper clearance is presumed to be an enemy of the state and can be shot if necessary.

Take along a trebuchet to return deceased invaders to Mexico immediately.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Time to break out every Gatling gun in inventory. Even the hand cranked .45-70 ones in museums.
Set up lotsa mines, concertina some flame fougasse……you should be safe.

jim h

I also need a hand cranked .45-70 gatling gun.

for reasons.

The Other Whitey

I’ll tell you why I need one as soon as you tell me where in the Constitution it says I have to justify the free exercise of my rights.

jim h

ease up, airborne – im just saying I wanna shoot one!

Docduracoat

I hate to say this, but President Trump just directed the Department of Justice to write a regulation banning bump stocks
I love shooting my bump stocks and snap fire trigger devices
As a single issue voter on gun rights, this is a huge setback for me and lots of other people of the gun.

Ex-PH2

Use rubber bands instead.

Gee whiz, you guys SO lack innovative skill sets.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

It would work great for keeping Mormon Missionaries and Jovie’s Homies off your porch!

Combat Historian

TX, AZ, and possible NM guard units should be activated under Title 32 instead of Title 10; they have more leeway to keep out the riff-raff under Title 32. Commifornia NG units may have to be called up under Title 10, because the state has basically functionally seceded from the union and has gone rogue…

Come to think of it, Gov. Abbot may want to consider activating TX NG units under complete state authority instead of Title 32, because then TX guard units will have even MORE authority to protect the state and federal borders of TX than granted under Title 32…

Mason

Posse commitatus shouldn’t apply if they are enforcing the federal border. But I’d agree it’d make things simpler for enforcing laws if they were mobilized by the states. Really only will be an issue for the inevitable people that do make it across. So the troops will either be working with a sworn BP agent or have one at the ready on radio.

Atkron

Is that not what our Armed forces are in reality for? I know we have spent the last century in Expeditions overseas, but the primary mission of the land forces should be defense of the borders from invasion.

Mason

Completely agree with you, but do the federal judges? There’s probably a ninth circuit judge just waiting to put an injunction against the whole thing.

I’d like to see them line up and just keep these folks in MX. Just keep pushing them back. MX authorities did nothing to stop them from coming through, so they should be stuck with them.

Of course once they get on our side of the border, all US the legal protections apply. Since they all come from some shithole country or another, they can claim they’re seeking asylum.

The Other Whitey

They’re defending the border against hostile incursion from without. That’s national defense. Posse Comitatus shouldn’t apply.

Combat Historian

It shouldn’t apply, but complications may inevitably arise, as with the Hernandez case in 1997…

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esequiel_Hern%C3%A1ndez_Jr.

Ex-PH2

Posse Comitatus doesn’t apply to this. It prevents the US federal government from using troops against US citizens, but does not prevent use of National Guard for guarding the borders against invaders.
Besides, it’s Texas under discussion here. Don’t need no troops, exceptin’ for providing shade on hot days.

Ex-PH2

Hey, can I get the tee-shirts concession? I have some ideas:

Mi casa no es la suya.

Va t’en chez toi.

desert

Put the border fence on the Arizona line at the colorado river…keep the Kalifornicators and the invading latinos on that side of the river imho!

Atkron

Governor Abbott tweeted out the other day that he has already deployed his NG units to the border.

Combat Historian

Glad to hear it; good on him for taking the initiative on this…

Mason

100+ years ago, Pancho Villa was such an “undocumented”, “migrant” that they sent Pershing after him. Like fashion, history keeps repeating.

The Other Whitey

I seem to recall that asshole shooting up a town in New Mexico and killing a lot of innocent people.

Hondo

Columbus, NM – on 9 March 1916, to be precise. US casualties were 8 KIA, 8 WIA, and approx 15 civilians killed.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Columbus_(1916)

That little invasion (Columbus is approx 3 mi north of the border) didn’t go particularly well for Pancho and his men, though. Estimated KIA on his side were between 90 and 170, with an additional approx 13 WIA and another 6 taken prisoner.

The Other Whitey

Much obliged, Hondo.

26Limabeans

“Pancho was a bandit boy, his horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel
“Pancho met his match, you know, on the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dyin words, ah but that’s the way it goes

All the Federales say, they could’ve had him any day
They only let him slip away, out of kindness, I suppose”

Hat tip to Merle and Willie

The Stranger

You forgot Townes. He wrote it.🤠

26Limabeans

Thanks. I thought it might be Jerry Jeff Walker. Classic song.

The Stranger

I think Jerry Jeff wrote “Mr. Bojangkes”…

Ex-PH2

That isn’t in ‘Starring Pancho Villa as Himself’ is it?

OWB

I really don’t care what demographic the “marchers” may be. It just doesn’t matter. Could be all nuns – they are an invading mob and must be stopped. There isn’t enough wall and fence to do it so more active means are all we have.

Yes, the National Guard has been used multiple times by multiple presidents and/or governors to try to stop this mess. It was never enough to do more than slow the flow for a while. Better than nothing for sure, but it is past time to stop this more permanently.

A Proud Infidel®™

I wonder how soon we’ll see D-rat pols screeching for ur to accommodate those wannabe leeches? After all, they see each and every “marcher” as a future D-rat vote in multiple precincts!

Devtun

Mexico eagerly gobbles up the hundreds of millions in military & financial aid from Uncle Sam annually. Estimate in 2013 was over $400M – start hitting them there. Also tax remittances which is probably it’s biggest source of revenue. Make the pain real for the Mexican gov’t. Teddy Roosevelt: Speak softly, and carry a big stick.

The Other Whitey

And how much of that aid goes straight through the Mexican government to the cartels?

A Proud Infidel®™

Or straight into the pockets of rich politicians?

Graybeard

same-same

Mason

Of bigger concern to the Mexican authorities is the roughly $27.6 billion (2016 data) sent annually home by Mexican immigrants in the US.

For comparisons sake, Mexican made about $17.8 billion off oil exports.

Is it any wonder they don’t want a wall?

Devtun

Yeah, that’s what I meant by remittances. If the US ever attempted to put a tax on money sent back home, The Messycunt gov’t would be soiling their panties.

desert

Damned right, I wouldn’t give that asshole in mexico jack shyt! He comes up here to our congress and calls us “racist”? The silly ass communist, drug lord puppet imho

West Point 1987

Invade Mexico, set up 3 kilometer buffer; then Title 10 applies and they can interdict them and point them back south, instead of calling 911 and vectoring in BP. All this “is it is or is it ain’t” a military role/mission is just hot air. Make it one and get it done.

2/17 Air Cav

I had a similar plan but it was shot down b/c it would have put wildlife at risk. I was thinking mine fields and Warthogs, myself.

2/17 Air Cav

Seems Mehico is reporting that it returned some 300 of the would-be invaders to the hellhole they came from and that, as a result, the group is no longer one. It’s splintered now. So, the BIG confrontation won’t happen, at least not the one that the invaders planned. I wonder whether those people realize that they are just being used and that no one gives a shit about them.

A Proud Infidel®™

They’re what the likes of Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Castro referred to as “Useful Idiots”.

Tony180A

Nothing new here. I had multiple dreaded JTF-6 90 day rotations during the early 90’s.

Docduracoat

I am at a loss as to what our Armed Forces could do against an unarmed mob like this
Observation and transport for the border patrol? Guard detainees?
Take over duties at border patrol stations to free up agents to go into the field?
I don’t believe currently serving American Soldiers would actually fire on civilians
I think that unarmed soldiers chasing women and children around in the desert would not play well on t.v.
I would love to see the Army Corps of Engineers and the Seabees build an actual wall!
That would be great use of my taxes!

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Jeepers creepers, this is like the 1954 Naked Jungle movie with the hordes of Army Ants heading to destroy the plantation.

rgr1480

Oh geeeez … I remember watching that on TV when I was a kid in the 60s. Though, all I remember are the ants.

I always wondered what the title of that movie was.

The Other Whitey

Leiningen vs the Ants?

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Remember the scene with the guy with the whisky jug in the canoe who was eaten and all that remained was the bones. I saw that in the movies and to this day I remember that part. Scared the shit out of me.
