Denver police collect no bumpstocks

| March 18, 2018

In January, the Denver city council banned bump stocks and last month the police offered to collect the devices from citizens, however, according to CBS local news, no one has turned any in to police;

The ban on bump stocks approved by the city council in January was considered largely symbolic. Denver had previously banned the types of semi-automatic rifles that can be modified with bump stocks.

The council also made it illegal in most situations to possess magazines that hold more than 15 rounds of ammunition.

So, we can reasonably assume that the “largely symbolic” ban was just so council members can say that they “did something, anything”. But, hey, everyone feels better about themselves as a result, and isn’t that what’s really important?

The media makes it seem like every gun owner has one or wants one.

I can honestly say that I have never met anyone that owns one. Never saw the point in buying something that you can use a piece of string and your belt loop for if you really had the need.

In the liberal paradise that Denver has become, I doubt there were that many to begin with.

I never liked his music.

Just as New York and Maryland citizens failed to turn in their “assault weapons” by the tens of thousands after they were declared illegal in Albany and Annapolis.

To paraphrase Andrew Jackson, “They have made this decision; now let them enforce it.”

*crickets*

come and take them

OWB

The difference is that “assault weapons” were a product law abiding citizens actually owned and wanted to continue to own. In the case of bump stocks, few if any ordinary folks want one, or have one. Those who do aren’t very knowledgeable about firearms and are much less likely to turn one in, they just have one as a curiosity, or they are one of those criminal types who are not at all concerned with whether they are or are not illegal.

AW1Ed

Ahh, thanks OWB. Didn’t mean to equate “assault weapons” with bump stocks at all. But the similarity remains- people are ignoring unconstitutional, or just plain stupid, decrees, and those who enacted them are powerless to make ’em stick. This is never a good thing.

OWB

Yep, ignoring “orders,” or the law, has become ingrained. Most folks only ignore speeding laws, but no matter how innocuous it may seem, it’s still not good and another generation is being trained to only obey the law when it is convenient to do so. Or one we like.

AW1Ed

The sheriff in my county here in the PDRofMD is a local, elected by his peers. He flat refuses to enforce the unconstitutional mandates from Annapolis. How do I know this? He usually is right down the firing line from me at our local sportsman’s club, shooting his AR-15.

Just as I am.

I don’t own one, never did and didn’t understand why anyone would? I can move my finger pretty damned fast on a semi auto if I have a mind to? Waste of money, spend the money on Ammo! 😉

rgr769

They are a stupid novelty item that is nothing more than a worthless ammo waster. Anyone with the finances to waste massive amounts of ammo could afford to get a class III license and buy a real select fire weapon, like a cool Thompson SMG.

PavePusher

I ordered one a week ago just to annoy smug gits like you.

Ex-PH2

Bump stocks…. well, I don’t see any point in spending money on something that costs more than a rubber band, so I don’t have one, either.

What would I do with one, anyway? Does it make a good door stop?

A Proud Infidel®™

They might as well pass a law banning shoestrings and rubber bands. It’s already illegal for felons to possess firearms and ammunition but when was the last time anyone saw any of them turning their guns over to LE?

Mason

They previously banned types of semi-automatic rifles, in a state where they have a fatal cougar attack every couple years? Not to mention bears, moose, and all the other potentially deadly critters. Sounds about right. I’m sure it’s in the name of safety.

Didn’t have to, but I looked. It’s a firmly Democratic party run city. Surprise!

2/17 Air Cav

And the two most infamous shootings in that area didn’t involve a bump stock. One, Columbine, didn’t involve a scary black rifle at all. The other, in the movie theatre, did involve one but it didn’t do much. Idiot had a 100-round mag on it and, of course, it jammed. But, hey. everybody feels good.

A Proud Infidel®™

Not to mention that the theater was also a Gun Free Zone with signs at its entrance saying so and all the slimeball saw was a shooting gallery full of unarmed victims. That perp and the VT shooter gave off multiple warning signs that were ignored as well as the latest shooter and I see that as clear signs that WE CANNOT TRUST Government entities to protect us, many are too imbecilic and incompetent as well as cowardly, they’re too afraid of getting accused of being insensitive or being sued.

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, your last line gets it. Remember the terrorist video from the administration immediately before Trump’s? The adult white male, likely a Veteran. I think it came with the disclaimer, “No Muslims were offended in the making of this video.”

desert

Maybe when one of those bears or cougars attacks a snowflakes family, they will change their mind…damned ignorant liberals!

E-6 type, 1 ea

With just a little bit of practice and a working knowledge of how trigger reset works, you can do the exact same thing with 1000% better accuracy. People who buy bump stocks are idiots.

Sparks

Denver, go figure. Such is why in my search for an AR-15, I keep seeing “Colorado Legal”. Tools.

Fyrfighter

Yep, “Colorado legal” just means it comes with a magazine of 15 rnds or less..Sad, but this is what has happened to this fine state of mine, with all the damn californians contaminating it (No offense TOW)

11B-Mailclerk

Not much difference between a “bump stock” and a “recoil reducing stock” (the two-part type with springs and/or pistons between them.

Oops.

When I was ARNGUS 1975-1977, We were out at the target range in Camp Smith or Ft. Drum and we had those little pieces of metal covering the full auto on the M-16’s so we could not use it and I remember at one point, that It was very hard to pull the trigger back and when it went back, I was in the full auto mode then the next thing I knew, one of the range safety officers came over to me and checked out the 16 and found the pin that holds the sear steady, was hanging out one end of the receiver which I did not notice. Got yelled at until he noticed the loose pin.

Mark Lauer

I hear that all they do is make it easier to jam your rifle. And if you want to fire in full auto, your belt loop is just fine.

FatCircles0311

No. It doesn’t increase fire rate to the point that it would cause malfunctions. You do have to shoot it a special way in order for the momentum to function though and that impedes accuracy on top of already poor accuracy of the literal stock moving. It makes the rifle less accurate by shooters when used so for a politician to claim it should be banned because it’s more dangerous is total garbage and they have no idea.

It’s for fun. No fun allowed in America unless you’re into gay sex parades and killing babies then you’re good to go.

AW1Ed

Too easy.

FatCircles0311

Banning specific firearms is the definition of infringement. Maybe we can setup a charity fund to get law markers literate enough to read the US Constitution.

rgr769

Virtue signaling is the Prime Directive for Progtards. Reality is irrelevant, it is how one feelz that is important.

Sgt Fon

the only “Bump” stock that was ever worth anything was the Akins Accelerator for the 10/22. it was one of funnest things in world when it was legal, then mr ATF man cam knocking on doors asking for the spring that drove it. 🙁 that was no fun at all 🙁

What does this have to do with a stolen valor accusation?

You should have sent your info to Jonn at his contact info.

Bet they got a shitload of used AT-4 tubes, though!

Seriously, nobody in metro Denver has the money for a bump stock. They’re spending all their extra money on hippie lettuce and Twinkies.

Docduracoat

You are all completely wrong about the bump stocks
I was never in the military, but I’ve been a gun enthusiast for 30 years now
I have been to Gunsite and I fired many crew served and fully automatic weapons
My local range rents full auto weapons and I have shot the ones there many times
One of my pharmacists is a collector of class III weapons and has a Tommy Gun as well as many other Full Auto weapons
I have a lot of experience shooting automatic weapons of all kinds
As a physician I could easily afford to buy a full auto AK, Tommy Gun or Mac10, pay the $200, wait for the tax stamp and take possession
My wife is great and would agree to spend the money if I really wanted one
I choose to use a bump stock because it is much cheaper and works just as well
I have a bump stock and two of the Bair arms snap fire trigger devices
The bumpfire stock is ridiculously easy to use and after just two magazines you can do three round bursts or full magazine dumps
As with any other fully automatic weapon it rises up and to the left and three round bursts is far more effective for hitting a target
The advantage of using the bump stock instead of bumpfiring with the belt loop is that you can shoulder the gun and look through the red dot instead of just shooting from the hip
The snap fire takes only a little more skill, but is available for sub guns like my CZ Scorpion
9 mm is the least expensive ammo ( besides .22)
Florida has now banned bump stocks with no grandfather clause
As a medical doctor I cannot depend on the good will of police not arresting me and prosecuting me for felony possession of contraband
Makes me extremely angry that I have to get rid of my legally acquired personal property
And this was passed by a Republican Legislature and signed by Republican governor !

Casey

Yes, but what’s the point? You get to dump ammo downrange that much faster?

PavePusher

Freedom and Liberty don’t need a justification.

Give a legitimate (i.e. CONSTITUTIONAL) reason to ban them.

2/17 Air Cav

Multiple lawsuits are pending that challenge the constitutionality of the state ban. In respective part, one suit asserts that the ban is a taking of property w/o compensation and another challenges the states raising the age at which certain weapon purchases may legally occur. So, nothing is a done deal.
