Togo West passes

| March 13, 2018

Bobo sends us the sad news that Togo West has passed at the age of 75 from a heart attack while he was on a cruise in the Caribbean between Barbados and Puerto Rico.

West served in the Army as an artillery officer and in the JAG Corps from 1965 – 1969. He went on to serve as General Counsel of the Navy and General Counsel of the Department of Defense during the Carter Administration. In the Clinton Administration, he served as Secretary of the Army and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. West also conducted the investigation into the Fort Hood terrorist attack.

Rest in Peace sir, a sad loss for the nation indeed.

The closer I get to that age the younger it seems. Reality however claims otherwise.

Condolences to his family and friends.

West also conducted the investigation into the Fort Hood terrorist attack.

Yeah, I remember that “investigation”. It didn’t bother to describe (or even, apparently, to investigate) the attacker’s motives; doesn’t mention the attacker by name; and doesn’t mention Islam whatsoever. It’s almost as if his investigation was a deliberate attempt to characterize a terrorist attack motivated by radical Islam as “workplace violence” for political reasons.

Lockstep Dem general, I can respect his service career but am not impressed afterwards.

Exactly.. good on him for his srevice, but ” In the Clinton Administration” says it all…

E4 Mafia For Life.

And the Carter administration.
So after his Naval service he served under the 3 worst presidents in history.
I thought nothing would top Carter and especially his post presidency behavior.
Jimmy’s brother would have mad a better president.

LOL! I actually had in my possession a six pack of “Billy Beer” during the Carter years. One drunken night, on a dare we drank some of it. Never vomited so much in my life. Worse than San Miguel beer in Olongapo. Worse than Primo beer from the old Primo brewery.
But you’re right, ole Billy would have been better.

Billy beer, even billy never drank it, was driving back to Ft Stewart from Benning with 2 buddies on a weekend pass from PNCOC/CA in dress greens and swung by his gas station to say hello, damn if he didn’t just walk right out to have a cold one with us, when we asked what kinda beer he told us “why PBR of course wouldn’t drink that Billy Beer shit”

IIRC, he was a lousy Secretary of the Army. But then Billy Jeff admitted he “loathed the military” back in his college days.

I remember this Democratic jerk wad for the longest bullshit speech at “All American Week” in 1996 I think. He had about 15K paratroopers wanting to throatpunch his ass for his extra long, typical, crap speech that went on and on and on and on and on….. Not too sad for his passing, since he put his name and reputation on the line for “workplace violence” instead of terrorism.

Fuck him. Say bad stuff about me after I die because I wasn’t reverent to the dead if need be.

He was also instrumental in the building of a new VA OPC in his hometown, Winston Salem, NC. I was a plank owner at that VA. Previously I had worked for a very short period of time at the old VA in WS, which is best described as a shithouse. It was also a Regional Office, and there were so many C Files that the floors had to be supported with jacks; the weight was causing the decks to sag. Needed to find a health record or C file? Good luck. The new facility was VERY nice but within a few years had outgrown itself. I left after 3 years and I now have heard that some functions have been relocated in another, rented facility.
