SMA Dailey takes Pinks & Greens to Capitol Hill

According to the Army Times, Sergeant Major of the Army Dan Dailey took some models to Capitol Hill while they were wearing various versions of the Pinks & Green uniforms “to show lawmakers what he’s been working on.” I would hope that he’s working on more than the continued employment of uniform fashionistas.
The latest models included an enlisted male uniform and an enlisted female uniform with pencil skirt, as well as an officer’s maternity uniform worn with pants, according to tweeted photos from the event.
The soldiers also modeled two styles of cover, which are both under consideration.
The SMA is looking for approval of the new uniform in December. I’m wondering what the cost will be to the soldiers so that some bureaucrats get to keep their jobs.

Get rid of that silly hat on the woman on the left end of that lineup. It is ridiculous. Either bring back the WACs cover, or quit ‘fixing’ things.
The pencil skirt looks like crap on anyone who isn’t skinny, period. It’s also restrictive to walk in, and can easily make someone trip and fall on the sidewalk.
The A-line skirt from the 1960s looks good on ALL women.
Whoever is coming up with this nonsense needs to stop right now.
“Whoever is coming up with this nonsense needs to stop right now.”
Preach it!!
The brown boot Army is back, along with a few South American policia hats and a big sack for preggos.
“Big Sack for preggos”; hell, I thought that was the transgender uniform.
I thought that was a kitchen apron for cooking and cleaning. No?
Seems like the Navy and the Army are competing for how many uniform changes they can do in a decade.
I do like the Pink and Green uniform….though that Maternity Uniform is rather fugly.
In my day, we wore issue dungaree pants and non reg. seafarers along with dungaree shirts and dungaree jackets. dungaree jackets were not actually made out of dungaree cloth as well as the shirts.

What I usually wore day-to-day:
Ashore/In-Port: Blue Submariner Coveralls
At Sea: Flight Deck Greens
AtKron- We had the same stuff back in 63, and I forgot that we also wore tropical whites (short sleeve white shirts and white pants) and wore issued dungaree caps along with the dungarees. were you on Smoke boats or Nuke?
Both
USS Forrestal CV-59, with VA-105
USS John F Kennedy CV-67, with VFA-105
USS Enterprise CVN-65, with VFA-83
90 percent of my uniform allowance every year went for beer. The rest went for FR dungarees, iron-on crows/badges, and stencil pencils.
Dark blues, white short sleeved blouse with tie, bucket hat with white cover, or garrison cap, white gloves for formal occasions.
Light blues in summer with bucket hat with light blues cover, or garrison cap, black gloves for formal occasions.
Chambray shirt and cotton slacks (called dungarees but weren’t denim).
White dress uniform only with shortsleeved white blouse and tie, bucket hat with white cover, white gloves.
Anyone on flight skins wore coveralls, whatever the flight crew was wearing.
How much simpler can you get?
“How much simpler can you get?”
Uhm…..how about one fucking uniform?
Accidentally fat-fingered the report button btw
That’s okay.
The dark blues were wool, for autumn into spring. Light blues were for late spring through summer.
Yeh no shyt! The stinking brass think they are making names for themselves by wasting millions on uniform changes..! They are, the names they are making for themselves are MORONS! Leave the frigging uniforms alone, spend the money on maintaining equipment you freaks of nature!!
Every time I complain about how much the Navy changes uniforms, I just look over to the Army and realize things could be worse.
Bigwigs continuing to utilize their budget at its best.
The E-7 looks sharp. Like it.
The E-6 looks too young for that rank.
The mother to be looks like a nun in that outfit.
They look cool. That being said, Congress should approve them with the stipulation that the Army cannot change its uniforms again for 100 years.
Being an Army Vet myself, I’ve always envied the USMC when it comes to dress uniforms, they found out what works and left it the hell alone.
Always felt the same from within my USAF blues. The USMC blues have some heritage.
That and the Marines would get too confused if they had two choices instead of one.

Somebody seriously needs to work out the trouser break. Most of those look like they are 9 years old, trying on their daddy’s pants.
And don’t even get me started on the ridiculousness of uniforms transformed into hatching suits. Stupid. Just stupid. If you can’t deploy, whacha doing in an imitation of a uniform? Nonsense.
Do like the pinks and greens in concept, with no dog in the fight. (Except several centuries of family members in the uniform of the US Army.)
Bring back the Eisenhower jacket, then leave it alone for at LEAST a century.Tropical weight khakis for hot climates.
Hey, Staff pukes at the five-sided puzzle palace, see how easy that is?
I can’t believe those limp-wrists are doing a uniform change AGAIN. Probably so Senator whosit’s, or Congresscritter somebody’s major campaign contributor can make a few extra megabucks manufacturing the new uniforms.
That uniform looked great in its day, when it was cut and tailored properly. These look like the queerest designer they could find put them together. The pregnant broad looks like my 5th grade lunch lady and the wheel hat looks WAY too big for the uniform or the one I wore when I was in.
Is it just me, or do we have far to many important things needing fixing in the Armed Forces to be spending time and money of fashion statements?
I’m sorry but I am very, very, very old school. I still believe the sexually segregated service was more efficient and had less problems. I believe we should go back to separated sexes from enlistment through service period unless their jobs cross encounter or they are in the same job. I believe women should be pulled from all combat and combat related MOS’s as well and women should be no where near the front line or outside of a post.
It worked quite well when I was serving and men and women still managed to get together if they were so inclined. But Johnny went to Johnny’s barracks which across from Jane’s barracks. They did not eat together, march together or deploy together.
Now, everyone who wants to take my head off is weapons hot to do so. But I know the circumstances under which I served and I know the problems being dealt with now and a segregated service would cure about 90+% of it. Just my humble opinion. You’re free to fire now.
I agree Sparks, but that genie is not going back in the bottle. More’s the pity.
1963-1966 no problem.
“Is it just me, or do we have far to many important things needing fixing in the Armed Forces to be spending time and money of fashion statements?”
^^^^^ this…..words of wisdom
Not just you, Sparks. Most of this is wasted time and effort and money will be wasted on it right up to the next change of uniform.
>That uniform looked great in its day, when it was cut and tailored properly. These look like the queerest designer they could find put them together.<
No self respecting gay man would be caught dead in ill fitting cloths.
Soldiers like the way folks from WWII looked, but as you clearly mention, they were tailored much better then we do today.
Well I guess it could have been worse. They could have had men wearing skirts and maternity uniform. After all men can have periods and indenitfy as female war fighters these days. I must be blind too because I see no “pink” although it’s “pinks and greens”. Who the fuck. Why the fuck. Just fucking stop, Army.
Hmmmm …. if I identified as a Scot, could I wear a kilt?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm (bagpipe drones a-humming) Hummmmmmmmmmmm
I just want to know, where do I sign for my prosthetic fetus??
Just like when the Corps started having the women wear men’s styled Blues blouses and covers. What the f*ck!!
Looking at this photo the first thing that jumps out to me is how gaudy and awful the current ASU (blues) look. Bleh.
As for the P&G, I like it but the belted jacket is only going to look good on soldiers who don’t have much of a gut. Honestly I think if they were going to ‘borrow’ a WWII uniform I prefer the enlisted WWII OD green 4 pocket jacket with no belt – on most soldiers it would look better.
Please, please, please kill the Nazi Bus Driver Hat for enlisted soldiers! And also kill the stiff-sided C-cap (for the benefit of the gentler members of TAH I won’t say what the “C” in C cap stands for
) The correct hat should be the pleated, soft-sided “overseas” cap from WWII. It’s inexpensive, lightweight and when properly “crushed” it looks good.
Also need to go back to tucking the necktie in between the 2nd and 3rd shirt button for the class B’s.
Final note, as I’ve said before, the problem with modern Army dress uniforms is not in the concept, it’s in the execution.
All of the uniforms above were specifically tailored for those soldiers to wear and are likely made out of high-quality materials.
If this DOES become the new Army uniform (and I’ll risk the wrath of the group here and say I hope it does because I HATE the ASU) then the Army is likely to farm out production to lowest-bidder contractors who are going to use cheap, crap material and basic training cadres are probably not going to do anything to try and actually fit the uniform to the soldier which means they’ll end up looking like crap anyway.
The “C” cap by its well known name is probably ok now since women wear Pussy Hats on the National Mall and are proud of them.
They will prolly end up being made by the lowest bidder, in China, like Shinseki’s black berets.
“I like it but the belted jacket is only going to look good on soldiers who don’t have much of a gut. ”
Maybe the solution then is to ditch the OD green belt in favor of a highly reflective, bright yellow, adjustable belt. It might even double as a signaling device for personal safety. If only there was such a product widely available on the commercial market…
Or, how about this…get rid of the soldiers/officers with “too much of a gut”?
I’m in favor of the P/G’s…the last time (when the ASU’s were “voted” in), I voted for the P/G’s to come back…Ike jacket and all. I’d even approve of Sam Brown belts. Like the Marines, we’d be back to wearing a uniform that spoke to our heritage and looks just fine even today. The ASU’s won, because the Chief of Staff of the Army voted for it and His Sublime Vote cancelled everyone else’s out. Army Blues were designed and cut for inspections and parades, and still have the same cut. Never designed to sit in, only to stand in a formation. Hated it. My only regret is I’m retired and won’t get to wear this. At least SMA didn’t try to keep an OD beret or something…
Why do I feel this all was started after somebody watched the first Captain America movie. What is the nostalgia for the 1940’s look. Why don’t we just start over with the wool uniforms of WW 1.
Hell, go back to the roots of the Army…. breeches and high neck collars.
Tri corner hats.
Pershing collars, all the way!
Don’t give them any ideas! I’m calling it now, in about ten years we’ll be back to tar buckets and tunics for our class A uniforms. Can’t get much more old school than George Washington!
Before the abortion known as ASUs, THIS was the option that soldiers voted for in a survey. And we still got the ASUs.
The Army has a problem defining the difference between “service” and “dress” uniforms. Add a bow tie and the service uniform is suddenly a dress uniform!!
As a former Marine who crossed over to the dark side, I have been bemused by the Army’s myriad uniform changes.
13 years in the Corps and the only major uniform changes I dealt with were the change from split pocket jungle utilities to woodlands and going from winter/summer service dress to all season service dress. Sure there were minor stupidities (rank on utility covers, v neck t-shirts with chucks).
However, in 20 years with the Army I have went from woodland BDUs to ACUs (UCP), ACUs (OCP), green class A’s to blue ASUs and now pinks and greens Class A’s with the ASUs going back to a dress uniform.
Since I’m Armor now, I think I’ll add breeches, boots and a Sam Browne belt to my pinks and greens and totally rock a crushed piss cutter overseas cap. Need to contact Holicks in College Station to get my boots ordered…
Damn Stacy!!! I guess since I was armor as well, Id want to go a little farther back; to the dress uniforms of the 1890-1920-ish era.
Lets go with the US version of the Prussian helmets with golden yellow plumes for the full dress gig.
That oughta show the fashion folks a thing or two…for war; blue wool shirt, tan wool pants, leather riding boots and beat up campaign hats.
Kidding mostly…
When I was a 24 year old, 160 pound armor 2LT; the blue uniform was THE DRESS uniform, tailored by German ladies who worked in clothing sales at Ft Knox and knew what a dressed up armor or cavalry officer ought to look like when wearing their finery.
Class A’s made of wool not plastic seemed to be ok for me.
If we really want to pivot over dress uniforms we could talk about mess dress, but most officers I know who had them kind of looked like blue penguins…
Household 6 promised me Mess Dress when my promotion comes through.
She was a little stunned at the price. But really surprised when she saw how much all the accessories cost, especially the medals.
I actually like the Pinks and Greens, let’s get rid of the Shinseki as well and make the Black Beret RANGERS ONLY like it should have stayed in the first place. Ditch the Mama Greens, that looks like a half-assed Painter’s smock with bling!
Those “wheel” hats with the pseudo “50 mission crush” look are ridiculous and are reminiscent of some third world dictatorship.
Eliminate hats except for functional field uniforms. If they don’t keep the sun out of your eyes or rain of your head or cranium warm get rid of them.
While your at it those stupid scarves worn with a flightsuit that must be removed before flight are ridiculous as well.
The “saddled” hat looks like the dress uniform hat of the Bogotà, Columbia police. Get rid of it.
Love that faux, “Fifty Mission Crush”, on the service caps.
Might as well complete the theme and issue the guys a jar of pomade and a carton of Lucky Strikes.
The chick on the left is hot. With that Field Marshall cover, it makes you wonder how she would look with spike heels, a riding crop, and a naughty little something under the pink and greens.
It’s no surprise they added the maternity uniform as back-up…
Are fishnet stockings with a seam up the back authorized for wear with that uniform?
Asking for a friend…;)
Maybe if they’d authorize her to wear a pair of spike heel leather boots along with the riding crop *drool, slobber *…
“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains EXCITE me.”
Yeah, a corset under the uniform…yeah…
Their missing the Garrison belts.
And the riding crops.
Also, shouldn’t that hat be tilted to the side?
I’ve been in the army essentially since 1986 (less a break for college), and they’ve been dangling the pinks and greens in front of me for the entire time. (See the Army Times alternate between “The Army’s new rifle!” “The Army’s new PT Test!” and “The Army’s new dress uniform!” every third week.) It’s getting old. Now that I’m down to 3 years remaining, they want to get serious about this? Come on. Looks like I’m going to be the disgruntled old guy that doesn’t spring for the new uniform.
With all the problems the Army is allegedly having with retention, diversity, sexual harassment, etc. it is hard to see where the SMA finds time to design and implement another new uniform wardrobe.
Not to mention the lack of money I always hear about.
” allowing enlisted soldiers to set aside money from their clothing allowances to buy the full set,”
I would bet good money that the clothing allowance does not cover the cost of a “full set” of the new, improved uniforms,so just how much out-of-pocket is this going to cost those overpaid enlisted personnel this time?
Too much.
They just changed the cammo pattern and had to buy several sets of those. Some just don’t bother with the dress uniforms.
The SMA needs to get with the fucking program.
All I see is another uniform the poor troops will have to spring for out of their own pockets.
Pick a friggin’ dress uniform and don’t mess with it.
On the other hand, I ‘spect that a lot of the troops have yet to invest in the current dress uniform – they are too busy wearing the field uniforms doing real work to mess with it.
The overall impression I get from all this is that maybe, just maybe, the Army has realized what a colossal mistake they made when they went to the ASU in favor of the dress greens back in 2005.
The Army Green uniform was the Army standard from about 1957 until 2005. For damn near 50 years the Army uniform was just fine and there was no need to mess with it.
Sure, there was grumbling here and there but for the most part, people accepted that the Army uniform was “Army Green” and lived with it.
Now the ASU is only 12 years old and already they’re looking at replacing it. Why? Well, IMO it’s because the Army Blues are, were, and always have been an objectively TERRIBLE uniform.
The mismatched jacket and pants look ugly (yeah, yeah, I know the “tradition” is based on something historical. Doesn’t matter, it still looks awful.)
The gaudy gold stripe on the pants looks cheap and overly flashy. All the gold trim makes soldiers look like they are a member of a high school marching band or a bellhop at a 3rd world hotel.
The worst idea was getting rid of the SSI on the left sleeve and the FWTS SSI on the right sleeve – that was one thing that almost all soldiers liked about the previous uniforms.
The AUS is just an awful, ugly, ridiculous uniform. And now that the Army has realized just how bad this uniform makes soldiers look, they want to change it back to a uniform that just plain WORKED without being overly gaudy, flashy or mismatched. I can’t blame them.
Just take a look at that photo above. OK, some of the “Pinks and Greens” features are poorly done (like the Nazi bus driver hats that are pulled too low over the eyes) but otherwise, when you look at the colors and the design of the uniforms, the only uniform that looks bad in the photo above is the blue ASU that SMA Daley is wearing.
Amen to all this! Preach on!
Martinjumper- When I attended a 9/11 Fire Dept. Funeral at St. Patricks Cathedral (NYC) I noticed the attending German Fire fighters wore the same high peaked hats with their class A uniforms. We gave Capt. Hatton R1, FDNY a good send off. RIP Terry.
Lot of good folks perished that day.
No more ghey beret.
I like the pinks and greens with the belt. They would have looked great on us back I the ’70’s, before almost half of the population was obese. But maybe not so much anymore, given the waistlines of the current AD members, and most of the military age adults. But the X-genders will look fabulous in that pencil skirt–think Manning, he has the hips for it.
Yeh no shyt! The stinking brass think they are making names for themselves by wasting millions on uniform changes..! They are, the names they are making for themselves are MORONS! Leave the frigging uniforms alone, spend the money on maintaining equipment you freaks of nature!!
When one is worthless, one finds worthless things to do. If this is what the SMA is doing, he is worthless.
As for the uniform, I wore this in the Corps of Cadets,TAMU and it is a chick-magnet. What is needed is the “Mid-Night” Shirt with the Tan Tie. Also, Boot Pants and “Senior” (Riding) Boots are a must.
What a complete waste of time and money, but it seems to be what this SMA is good for.
