Train hits Garbage Truck
The Associated Press reports that a train-load of Republicans on their way to a policy retreat in West Virginia struck a garbage truck parked on the tracks in Virginia. One of the garbage truck crew was killed and another was life-flighted from the scene;
Minnesota Rep. Jason Lewis’ staff members tweeted that the first-term congressman was among those taken to the hospital. The tweet from Lewis’ account said he was being checked for a concussion because of the impact.
The policy retreat, an annual event, is scheduled to last three days and feature speeches from President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. By early afternoon, lawmakers were boarding buses to resume their trip and Pence was still planning to address them later Wednesday.
From the AZCentral;
Sen. Jeff Flake rushed to the aid of injured passengers from a garbage truck Wednesday after it collided with an Amtrak train carrying Republican lawmakers to a GOP congressional retreat in West Virginia.
For Flake, R-Ariz., the accident scene near Crozet, Va., brought back memories of last year’s shooting at the GOP congressional baseball team practice in Alexandria, Va., in which House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., was seriously wounded.
My only question is WTF was Jeff Flake doing on a policy retreat for Republicans?

The Charlottesville area just has a hard on for conservatives…first thought was that affirmative action dumbass Wes Bellamy (of attempted confederate statue removal fame) was driving that truck
And like vultures to a corpse:
http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/01/31/liberal-author-jonathan-tasini-celebrates-fatal-gop-train-accident-god-is-working-hard-today.html
“Author and self-proclaimed CNN “talking head” Jonathan Tasini took to Twitter on Wednesday to declare that “God is working hard today to clean up the stink” because a “train full of Goopers” slammed into a dump truck moments after news broke that GOP lawmakers were in a collision that resulted in at least one death.”
A class act there.
No words for cockstains like that…
There’s a few. None publishable or safe for mention at the family dinner table, but you getthe idea.
What do you expect from someone who is part of a generation of overgrown children that haven’t outgrown schoolyard bullying?
That snotweasel has less class than a public school on Sunday.
Flake heard “retreat” and said he was on board for that.
…
But kudos to him for rendering aid to the injured.

Was it a bullet train?
The pic of the train’s engine shows minimal damage. Poor bastards on the truck…
Whether it’s car vs train or truck vs train, odds are sky high that the train is going to win. Just a locomotive alone weighs 150-225 tons.
Law of gross tonnage
The weight of one of Amtrak’s GE P42 Locomotives is 134 tons versus the weight of an AC4400 six axle freight locomotive is over 200 tons apiece.
Ye cannot change the laws of physics, Laddie
WTF is Flake even doing on the train? Besides occupying space and using valuable oxygen, that is.
I may not like his policies or behavior otherwise, but I’m going to give Flake kudos for rushing to assist the injured.
Other news outlets have reported that several MDs on board were the first responders and doing CPR on the truck’s passengers.
There is a time to bash the idiots – but when they are actually out helping those in need is not the time.
YMMV
Point taken GB. Even a blind chipmunk finds the occasional acorn. If he could help, fine.
My point, since he’s a dyed-in-the-wool RINO and is leaving public service, why is he on the train to a Republican convention in the first place?
Actually, rhetorical question, never mind. Seems I lack a give a …well, you know.
On the other hand, I’m putting myself in time-out. I’ve been a bit too argumentative today.
Apologies to all.
None required, GB. Your insight and opinions are always welcome, at least as far as I’m concerned.
“My point, since he’s a dyed-in-the-wool RINO and is leaving public service, why is he on the train to a Republican convention in the first place?”
I thought the same thing but then again, he’s been a public parasite for so many years and he obviously saw it as another free party time.
Spying for the anti America resist movement.
Senator Flake rushed to the aid of the truck victims…my ass.
I don’t buy that one bit…sounds like some suspicious PR to me.
Yep.
I would like to ask that reporter to define rush.
Was Flake the first one to get to the injured?
Or was he moving slowly, as he always does, and cassually got to the truck after other people were already helping.
Next we’ll get the word: Sen Flake decided to run one more time.
Arizona says no. Only thing he should run for is the border.
I have some sympathy for the garbage truck people. That’s both a rock and a hard place. It’s a shame that it happened to two working people.
They should have looked both ways, Garbage Trucks have a MUCH shorter stopping distance than trains do!
Here’s one sample:
And thats with the brakes slammed on!
And here’s an Amtrak train arguing with a fire truck:
The firetruck may have been arguing, but I thin k the train just explained how shit was gonna go.. kinda like arguing with Ma Deuce… it just doesn’t tend to go your way..
I grew up next to the tracks and we used to cross them all the time and hop trains just for fun. One day while hopping one I tripped and fell so that my whole body completely out of control ended up under the car outside of the rail . I am extreamly lucky I wasn’t caught by the ladder step that hangs down or part of me run over by the wheels. I never messed with trains again.
Flake was one of quite a few who rendered aid. Fox identified a bunch and all are pysicians. Huh? I then googled how many M.D.s are in Congress and there are some 20, 17 of whom are Republicans. I had no idea.
Bad joke of day: Is there a doctor in the House? You betch’m! More than a dozen.
Only CNN would make political hay out of a train wreck on a train run by a union member.
YMMV.
What was CNN’s headline, something like “Train Full of GOP Members Ruthlessly Runs Over Innocent Garbage Truck “?
I have never considered any conspiratorial type situation before as I like to rely on facts for everything but I have to say the timing here and location make this entirely suspicious to say the least. Especially so given the truck was on the fucking tracks just sitting there from statements made by those on the train in the lead car who saw it before impact.
Terrorist attack crossed my mind briefly, too. If so, these were weapons grade stupid attackers; stop a train with a truck?
Until I hear different, I think this was an incident of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The thing is pictures from the scene provided by different citizens show two clearly different trucks. Massie and Lee both provided photos and the wrecks are very obviously different vehicles.
As stated I rarely involve in non fact based thoughts but in this case I am certain this was a coordinated event given what we have seen in the photos.
Regardless of how hard libs try to stop the Trump Train it ain’t stopping.
The only way to keep this from happening is if Virginia passes stricter garbage truck laws.
Think of the children!
Any follower of the religion of peace in that truck?
Three Arkansas Congressmen were on the train. Don’t know who missed it but all are great guys, two are veterans.
Next MSNBC Headline – “GOP Uses Trains to Kill Middle-Class Teamsters”
There seems to be rumors floating around Facebook suggesting that this wasn’t just an accident…considering there was Republican Congress Critters aboard the train, and the garbage truck was parked on the tracks.
Interesting, but how likely?
Rumors schmumers. It was an accident. There was one in the same spot in 1999. The place is fairly remote. Check it on google satellite. There’s a nice bend in the track just before the crossing. The notion that three men would sit in the truck waiting to be struck by the train is silly to me, especially when death is not at all certain and no one spraypainted Aloha Snackbar on the truck. Bonjour.
