Sgt. Joshua Sears, Spc. Garrett “Doc” Young and Sgt. Mark Andrisek saving the world
Stars & Stripes reports that Sergeant Joshua Sears, Specialist Garrett “Doc” Young and Sergeant Mark Andrisek, of 4th Platoon, Alpha Company, 127th Airborne Engineering Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, were awarded the Army Commendation Medal with Valor for their actions in November when the convoy they were riding in was attacked by an IED explosion;
In 32 minutes, the wounded were already being treated at a field hospital, a timeline their leaders say saved two American lives.
During a ceremony at Bagram on Dec. 20, Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark A. Milley and Sgt. Maj. of the Army Dan Dailey awarded Army Commendation Medals with V devices to Sears, Young and a third soldier, Sgt. Mark Andrisek, for their actions during the Nov. 13 incident in Kandahar province.
“It’s really recognizing the fact that everyone’s alive because of them,” said Capt. Danielle Villanueva, the soldiers’ company commander. “It’s an incredibly proud moment for us as a command.”

BZ to all! Great job warriors!
I agree with Wilted Willy, great job by some great young men. Kudos to all.
The 127th AEB has a unique history, having originally been Angles (part of the 11th Airborne Division in WWII), and reborn as Devils when reactivated as part of the Devil Brigade, 1/82.
Pretty big day to get an ARCOM from the CSA and SMA.
Are they infantry?
Sgt Sears and Spc Young are not, as one is wearing a CAB and one a CMB. I would guess that Sgt Andrisek isn’t either, as most of the folks in an Engineer battalion are, in fact, engineers.
The Current Army Brigade Combat Team replaced the Brigade Special Troops Battalion (BSTB) with a Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB)
The BEB has two engineer companies and all of the combat support companies- MI, Signal, MP platoon, etc. I don’t think there are any infNtrymen in the battalion, unless the BC, CSM, or XO/S-3 happen to be. Infantry.
Young is a medic, and Andersen and sears are combat engineers
Great story at the link.
Looking out for each other. Nice.
Good story. Nice to see something positive coming from that region.
Bravo Zulu, Gentlemen! An award well deserved.
I would point out that no one is further out front on a mine sweep than the engineer and when things get really tough in an assault it is an engineer that is sent to deliver a sachel charge to the enemy with a very short fuse.
Well done sappers! Your nation is greatful for your service.
Dunno how you Army guys keep track of all the names and number titles of yer outfits, but these are some damn’ fine Soldiers. Way to go!
BIIIIIIIG BAAAAAAAWWWWLLLLZZZ!
