The hits keep coming for Shane Ladner

| October 29, 2017

Shane Ladner, a former Cherokee County, Georgia deputy, was convicted of lying earlier this month about his Purple Heart Medal that he claimed that he was awarded for his service in Operation Just Cause.

That claimed award put him and his wife on a fateful collision course with a train when they were riding on a float in Midland, Texas – that collision cost his wife her leg.

Fox 5 in Atlanta discovered that he was actually in high school during that battle and couldn’t have been awarded a Purple Heart. Ladner sued them for libel last year ahead of his trial, but the DeKalb County Judge Alvin Wong dismissed the case against Fox 5.

According to Law.com, Ladner attempted to get an Appeals Court to overturn the dismissal of his civil case.

The panel—which included Judges Anne Barnes and Amanda Mercier—first determined that Ladner was a limited purpose public figure, in part because of national coverage of the accident, the investigations resulting from the [Midland, Texas] fatal train collision, and the victims’ status as wounded veterans. Ladner also voluntarily and frequently sought public recognition for his military service by participating in the Texas event honoring war heroes and then, after the accident, by giving numerous interviews, appearing at fundraisers for his wife and himself and filing a personal injury lawsuit, McMillian wrote.

The public figure determination set a high bar for Ladner’s defamation claim, requiring him to prove the television station reported false information and did so with malice, McMillian wrote. After listing multiple sources and records that reporter Randy Travis relied on, McMillian also noted that Ladner admitted that he lied about serving in Panama, where he claimed he was wounded. She also noted Travis’ repeated efforts to give Ladner and his lawyer an opportunity to counter his findings.

Ladner did serve in the Army, but he was still in high school during the Panama invasion.

“The evidence shows no knowledge on the part of Fox 5 or Travis that his reports were false; to the contrary, Travis asserted that he believed at the time and continued to believe they were accurate,” the opinion says. “Moreover, the extent of Travis’s investigation and his reporting of Ladner’s explanations for any discrepancies in his record demonstrate that they did not recklessly disregard whether the reports were false.”

Ladner just doesn’t give up. He claimed, after Fox 5 announced their revelation, that instead of being wounded in Panama, he was wounded during drug interdiction operations in Central America. He also claimed that the National Personnel Records Center wouldn’t have a record of his secret Purple Heart Medal, and that records would be at Fort Benning, Georgia and at a cancer hospital in Panama, but after more than three years, neither Ladner nor his lawyer could produce those orders – only a forged DD214 discharge certificate.

It’s like he’s a Bernath in training or something!

Ret_25X

This dude is just an idiot. He knows he is full of crap and keeps playing his game, but he is paying his lawyer to do so.

The lawyer must know he is full of crap as well, but like a tick, is not going to stop sucking the blood until forced to.

Two people meant for each other.

A Proud Infidel®™

At first I was thinking that Shane Ladner was just another Atomic Sphincter Goblin, but NOW he’s going full throttle at being a Junior Bernath!

Frankie Cee

He is a douche, but his wife is the champion of the fools. Does she think that she can score with a book deal or what? Living with a proven liar, one who has lied to her, shows that she can’t have much going for herself.

Even if it costs an arm and a leg…

MSG Eric

Ouch Baby. Ouch.

Guard Bum

If she stays with him she wont have a leg to stand on in a contested divorce!

1610desig

You’re right….difficult for her to foot those legal bills

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

Hey Guard Bum, That’s supposed to be my line.

cc senor

Well, hop to it.

Alemaster

She’s going out on a limb by staying with him.

Poetrooper

As Tammy Wynette sang, “Stand by your man…”

Poetrooper

Of course she’s going to end up being the one who foots all those legal bills…

Even if she didn’t have a leg to stand on, given the way many domestic/juvenile courts are regarding “he” versus “she” in divorce settings, she has a good chance of rolling over Shane Ladner’s, phony war veteran, phony purple heart recipient, phony anti drug operator’s argument, then subsequently rolling out of there a victor.

SFC D

I understand she’s petitioned the court to change her name to Eileen.

AnotherPat

SFC D:

I saw what you did…”Eileen”..

Course, the Oriental version is “Irene”… (Whooooops…here comes the PC Pitchfolk Brigade…)⛏⛏⛏

A forged DD 214? My My My…isn’t that a federal crime? He claims a Purple Heart, but it’s classified…so how is it that he can display it without even a certificate on when and where he received it? This Bozo is just digging a deeper hole for myself..Wondering who’s going to pay his legal fees..

NHSparky

Honestly, when’s the last time anyone here has seen/heard of someone being prosecuted for altering a DD-214?

My guess is, the next time will be the first time, or damn close to it.

Hondo

Unfortunately, forging/altering a military discharge certificate is only a misdemeanor. It appears US Attorney’s rarely go after misdemeanors, except as stacked charges when they nail someone for a more serious crime.

MSG Eric

Well, at least he didn’t try to sue you as well Jonn, thank God and Buddha.

Ex-PH2

‘Ladner was a limited purpose public figure….’ Now, that’s a new nomenclature that I have not seen before.

Hmmm…. well, unless I’m much mistaken, Purple Hearts are not classified objects or awards. The justification for them may be held close, to avoid exposing vital information that would compromise a planned event, but the award itself is, unless someone tells me otherwise, simply public information.

So, basically, he’s a grandstanding, self-involved, lying crapweasel.

MrBill

My PH is so secret that NPRC doesn’t have any record of it, but it’s not so secret that I can’t talk about it at great length in public.

Hack Stone

That is why everyone with a Facebook account is required to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement. This way, when a Secret Squirrel posts on Facebook about his past and upcoming Black Op Missions, the information will be safeguarded.

1610desig

I believe the court also subtly implied he is an all-purpose pubic figure

NHSparky

Exactly. Seeing folks getting awards for what a boat did on SpecOp, etc., is not at all classified.

For example, a unit award might say that such-and-such command performed in an exemplary manner during such-and-such period, including a mission vital to national security of the United States.

Yes, I’m sure I’ve read that on some awards stuffed in my attic somewhere.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I guess that he just failed climbing the “LADNER” of success.

Hack Stone

Just in time for Christmas, Shoots And Ladners. I can see the commercial now:

Shane got a rifle and a trip to Midland Texas. Shane is going up.

Uh oh! Shane was exposed using a forged DD-214 to get a Purple Heart license plate. Shane is going down.

Hondo

So, Hack – are you saying he “shoots-ed” himself in the foot by acquiring his ill-gotten rifle? Figuratively speaking, of course.

(smile)

Poetrooper

Either that or that he’s really made a train wreck of his life…

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

That’s because he didn’t get started on the right track.

David

I suspect when he meets Tiny, Bubba, and Thor he will definitely be going down.

A Proud Infidel®™

An ex-Cop in prison? they’ll have to keep him well away from the rest of the population or his ass is grass!

Another Dysfunctional individual with a Brain Hiccup/Personality Disorder who refuses to take responsibilty for his poor judgment and actions and will go to his grave never admitting he lied.

And the victim of his lies is his wife…and possibly his lawyer.

Hondo

Dude lacks a conscience and emphathy for others.

Possibly. Or he may just be a lying, greedy a-hole looking for easy money and unearned recognition who got his ass caught in a wringer. Take your pick.

NHSparky

Like the kid in the commercial says, “Why not both?”

1610desig

I much prefer your less clinical description…

Hack Stone

He could have beat the charges if he utilized a real estate lawyer from the Bethesda MD area.

OWB

Yeah? He thinks his story is good??

My award of a Purple Heart is so classified that I wasn’t even there to get the injury.

Oh, wait.

Poetrooper

Oh yeah? Well mine was so secret they never told me I got one…

OWB

Really? Well, that guy over there has one so secret that he didn’t even have to serve to not get one.

rgr769

Mine was even more secret. It was for a wound I never suffered in a combat operation that never happened. I guess that is why it doesn’t show up in any of my records or my DD-214. But if needed, it could always be typed into a DD-214 because none of the authorities seem to do anything about the forgeries. A certain CSM forged up his shit and he never did a day behind bars. All he had to do was pay back some of the VA money he collected for his false claim he was POW in the Viet of the Nam. So, color me shocked about Ladner’s sentence.

AnotherPat

rgr769: And that CSM who claimed to have been a Vietnam POW had a father who also was a CSM. And believe it or not, he told family members that he was a Korean War POW (he wasn’t) and went to his grave having family believe that story.

For years after his death, that family passed on to others his Korean War POW claim. When asked for proof, family members insisted his Korean War POW story was in the Army Times and that he was not lying, since he was a CSM.

When shown his Official Military Records as well as the DoD lists and “Johnnie’s List” (Tigers List) that proved he was not a Korean War POW, the family went thru the 5 stages of grief. It was sad.

To this day, I believe that CSM made up that Vietnam POW story because not only of his Father’s false tale, but also because he wanted so much of his Father’s approval….and love.

And just as others, that CSM claiming Vietnam POW status has never acknowledged in public that he lied or apologized for his deceit..just as his Father…and most likely, just as his Father, will go to his grave without confessing he screwed up.

Claw, if you are reading this, you should recognize this CSM. He lives in the same AO as the 1st SEAC of the Army (another Liar).

rgr769

I have a copy of the document that CSM signed when he was supposedly a POW. Also, he claimed he was captured while serving in a unit that never had any personnel ever captured by the enemy.

AnotherPat

rgr769- Wow. I believe you have that document…snd yes, it is a shame that all he got was a slap on the wrist. I don’t think that when Jonn posted a while back on TAH about his POW claims, that it did not even shame him.

I heard that same CSM did bizarre things while in Vietnam that may have caused the death of one of his fellow solders (and possibly received a SS for that event). I also heard (and possibly read) how really received those scars on his face (which his family and his CSM Father’s family believed was caused by being in combat).

So sad. Again, when one looks at the entire picture, one sees that CSM had/has “Daddy” issues/low self-esteem or brain hiccup/personality disorder. I don’t think he has a consciense as well.

rgr769

Two died on a night extraction by Maguire rig when dragged through the trees. I suspect that your personality assessment is likely accurate.

AnotherPat

rgr767:And you probably know how he got those kmife wounds on his face. I do. I also have an old newspaper that may shed on light on how he supposely received those wounds.

I don’t think he ever submitted a DD215 to having the POW Medal removed from his Official Records.

What a sad, sad man. To have to follow in his own father’s footsteps to get his love and attention.

rgr769

I do. Someone talked to the chaplain at the post in Alaska where he was stationed after his return from the Viet of the Nam. Hopefully, he will get his due in the hereafter.

A Proud Infidel®™

Cocksucking assclown… karma is on him like a pitbull on a pork chop.

In point of fact, he was never a Cherokee County deputy. He was a Canton police officer, and was a cop in Holly Springs too.

Can’t believe he appealed that.

A Proud Infidel®™

I bet that NOW he couldn’t even get hired on as a shopping mall rent-a-fuzz!

Hack Stone

Is Ambassador World Wide Protective Services hiring?

A Proud Infidel®™

OKAY, would anyone other than Turd Bolling hire him?

Hack Stone

If you need a good laugh, stroll on over to the Ambassador Worldwide Protection Agency webpage. Not quite as bad as a proud (but humble) woman owned business, but close enough.

rgr769

IIRC, his C.O. from his unit in his Central America deployment testified at Ladner’s trial that no one in the unit was ever wounded as a result any operation there, let alone a combat wound.

A Proud Infidel®™

*POW!*, right in the kisser!

Planet Ord

He did. It really surprised me. The prosecution dredged that dude up two counties away from his retirement. What are the odds that your former 2star CO lives 30minutes away while you are showboating as a fake PH recipient under his command? The prosecution didn’t even have to pay for his plane ticket. It was devastating at the trial.

I can only imagine that Shane thought he was dead or lived far far away. He never expected such a credible witness to be so close.

Non Cedo Ferio

I don’t understand why the DD214 issue can’t be cleared up by simply logging into the HRC portal using a DS log in . And pulling the real 214 up. I’m not getting why that part is so hard

Green Thumb

Shitbag.

A Proud Infidel®™

It looks to me like Shane Ladner will be eating plenty of Karma Stew as well as perpetually digging himself deeper.

The Colonel

This analysis of Ladner’s legitimate service and decorations should answer lingering questions about how he managed to weave his web, and hopfully will convince naive family members and foolish friends that they have been duped by a one who has characteristics of a megalomanic sociopath. The two DD 214s in Ladner’s official records are the only legitimate ones issued to him, and are both completely and absolutely collaborated by his service records. Those same service records seem to confirm that the “war stories” Ladner put forward as his own were either based on the experiences of his peers in service, who did actually deploy to some of the sites he described and participated in some of the missions he claimed, or on video games and movies. The earliest one shows service from August 1990 until July 1994, and lists the award of the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Humanitarian Service Medal. The same service that qualified him for the HSM also qualified him for the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, approved after his period of service in the qualifying activity, but he apparently never got around to asking personnel to update his records after it was announced. Ladner had almost three years of inactive reserve obligation and a civilian break in service before he enlisted in the Georgia National Guard, but he did not participate in anything other than routine inactive duty for training during this time frame. His Army National Guard records reflect the award of one national guard decoration for being activated as a guardsman. The second DD 214 shows service from October 2001 until October 2002 (post 9-11 call-up), and lists the award of the Armed Forces Reserve Service Ribbon with “M” (for being mobilized from a reserve component), the National Defense Service Medal – 2nd Award, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal – most mobilized guardsmen received Achievement Medals as a “thank you” for serving. Like the remainder of his mobilized peers, Ladner received this document from Army personnel at Fort Benning when his tour of… Read more »

My thanks to Slick24/7 for correcting my error – Ladner’s glorious wedding photographs were taken in 2003,not 2013. I blame the error on old age, and research fatigue.
