Ladner v. Fox 5 Atlanta dimissed
Here’s a little background on Shane Ladner; He was a police officer at Holy Springs, Georgia who claimed to be a wounded veteran from Operation Just Cause in 1989 and he got an invitation to a trip to Midland, Texas in a parade with other wounded veterans. The float that he and his wife were riding on was struck by a train and his wife lost her leg.
Our buddy, Randy Travis, a reporter for Fox 5 in Atlanta did some digging and discovered that Ladner didn’t participate in Just Cause – he was still in high school. Ladner changed his story to a wound during drug interdiction operations in Central America. And he showed this forged DD214 as proof;
Well, the NPRC couldn’t find a Purple Heart;
His NGB-22 doesn’t mention a Purple Heart, either;
Ladner lost his job as a police officer and he’s facing charges for his Purple Heart license plates because of his lies.
Well, for some reason, Ladner thought that it was a good idea to sue Fox5 Atlanta and Randy Travis for defamation, because, somehow, that would get him a Purple Heart Medal. That failed this week – the case against Fox5 and Randy Travis was dismissed in Georgia court.

I worked with Fox5’s lawyer on this case, but it looks like the judge didn’t want to touch the stolen valor aspect of this case leaving that issue to the criminal courts.
Like I said, Ladner is still facing charges for using the forged DD214 to get Purple Heart license plates.

While the blame for the cause of the actual train/truck collision might be in question; there is no doubt that his wife lost her leg as a direct result of his lies about his service. Had he not lied in the first place, they would not have been in Texas, and not have been on that flatbed trailer, in the path of the train. I wonder if she is still with him…

The one hard thing about Karma is that sometimes your loved ones pay for your negative Karma…his wife paid with her leg for this asshole’s tall tales about his service…that’s a real shame as I far prefer when Karma delivers its message in person directly to the individual responsible.

If people understood it isn’t victimless, that might put them a step ahead. But they often don’t want to put one foot forward into comprehension.
Hopefully, all this costs him an arm and a leg, including what his wife can get out of him if they divorce.
At some point, at some level, long before events unfolded — it struck him as a good idea to fake a Purple Heart and be invited to ride a float in a parade that he had no right being involved with.
Ironically, he can probably still sue the train, the parade or the float driver and prevail. Only in America!
AS TO his suing the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR), forget it. The crossing where the collision occurred was designated as a “Silent Crossing” which means that the train’s Engineer was forbidden from sounding his horn for that grade crossing due to an agreement between local legal jurisdictions and the UPRR. Investigations afterward revealed that the warning signals were operating correctly so suing over that goes in the trash can as well. I will say that IMHO the Truck Driver WAS negligent in stopping while on the crossing but I’m sure that by now any lawsuits against him would bear no fruit. IMHO any legal action by him against the UPRR would be an absolutely Bernathian effort!
The suit in Texas against the railroad was settled by Shane prior to the Fox 5 lawsuit.

On a train track, the TRAIN always has the right of way. The only thing that might be able to contest that would be another train!
Like the Operation Lifesaver slogan says, “Even when it’s a tie at a Railroad Crossing, YOU LOSE”, referring to those who want to beat the train instead of waiting.

The Court document is a good read. The reporter, Travis did due diligence before he put Ladner on blast.
It also shows that if you have good reason to believe someone is lying about their service and mistakenly out them as a Poser the chances of them winning a legal battle against you are not good unless they can prove you knew the truth and continued to push the issue anyway.
I look forward to reading about how Ladner fares in his upcoming trial.

It was amazing to see the community come support him and Meg. Everyone helped. Until the lies became to big to hide and the right people asked the right questions.

The DA offered him a good deal, one felony and a few misdemeanor thefts. Now he has several felonies indicted staring him in the face.

He is damn good at winning people over. But when the truth comes out it unravels in spectacular fashion.

I live in the Georgia area and have been following this poser! His one legged wife is named Meg. She’s still with him! Can’t imagine why, but think she’s guarded by the poser and his mother. Don’t think she knows anything that is happening with the cases! All of her money looks like it goes to defending her lying poser husband.
