Mike Faram; phony Marine sniper
Someone sent us their work on this Mike Faram fellow who calls himself “Gunney”, not knowing how to the spell the shortened form of the Marine Corps rank (Gunny) Gunnery Sergeant.
On his Twitter profile, Faram claims to be a Marine Corps sniper;
Yeah, no, he spent 16 months in the Marine Corps and he was discharged, not as a gunnery sergeant (E-7), but as a private first class (E-2);
There’s no sniper training in his records.
Folks tell us that he tells them that he added the extra “E” to the rank title so people wouldn’t confuse him with R Lee Ermey. Like that would happen.

The guy went to 2500 (Radio Breaker) school in Stumps. Looks like he checked into school just as Hack was making his first (of three) escapes from MCCES. I wonder if I called out Newbie as he walked into the Enlisted Club with US Marines satin jacket?

They had a lot of wierd enlistment options back then, as long as the total came out to eight years it didn’t really matter how much was “AD/TPU” and how much was IRR.
Or at least that was my experience with the Army in 1991. My recruiter really pushed 18 and 24 month “options”.
was out for a few years by then but neverr saw anything shorter than 24 month options, but I agree with the 8 year total. He had about 16 months AD, though, which smells a lot like “don’t let the door hit” etc.

It was three, four or six.
My first enlistment was 4 active reserves 4 IRR, but I think everything now is 6 and 2.
Or at least I haven’t met anyone since 2007 that has had anything different.
Comm Guys in the Corps have five year enlistments now since the 2800 occ field doesn’t usually put Marines into the fleet until about a year into their Enlistment. Most 2500 schools are less than six weeks, though.

My enlistment was for 3 years and 4 months (SEP 1987 – JAN 1991. The idea was your OSUT + a solid block of years.
I was stop-lossed (Desert Storm)so my total Active Duty enlistment was 3 years and 7 months. The remainder of the 8 years was IRR.

I guess he has to be a “gunney” and a sniper so he can be a PTSD counselor. No one wants to pour his heart out to the guy who made it as far as E-2 in 16 months and couldn’t hack basic comm school.
The longer I read this blog the more I see of this and it leaves me with mixed emotions.
I cannot understand how they can do it given someone will eventually call them on it; someone who has served in units they claim.
I would call them if they claimed they served at the same duty stations I did during my years.

Looks like he Rocked out of Comm School in July of 83′ and was sent to Camp Lejuene. Spent Aug-Sept in Hospital and was Transferred to Reserves( Probably on paper only) Then Discharged in Jan 84.
I’m betting Medical Discharge.
