Tom Petty passes
Tom Petty passed early this morning at the relatively young age of 66. Typically, the media reported his death before he was really gone. Petty is best known for his portrayal of Elroy “Lucky” Kleinschmidt on King of the Hill/jk.
Oddly enough, I just found his channel (31) on XM Radio on Sunday, so I’d been jamming all weekend to his catalogue of music. And now this.

Last call for Marry J.
Put on that party dress………
I guess they are gonna stop draggin his heart around
You don’t know how it feels….man
I hope he learn to fly !
I won tickets on the radio to one of his shows and he played his wallflowers album from start to finish and it was amazing.
Sad to see him go.
I remember when it seemed like on each album he did a cover of a Byrds song… at times he even sounded like Roger McGuinn. Someone once said there was a direct line from Bob Dylan through Roger to Tom. He hadn’t done anything recently I was excited about, but ‘Breakdown’ on the “FM” soundtrack sure got a lot of time on the car cassette player while in my last stage of AIT.
66 seems pretty young to me these days…always liked his music and like David “Breakdown” is still on my workout playlist…
Good guitar playing and you could tell what he grew up liking because it influenced his music tremendously as he admitted several times in a variety of discussions on the topic.
Rest easy Tom Petty The Waiting is over for you now.
RIP. I was lucky enough to see him live several years ago, with Steve Winwood opening. That was a good show.
Another of the Wilbury’s has traveled to the end of the line. Fair winds and following seas, Tom.
AW1Ed…I just found this on YouTube and had it ready to add but, great minds and all.
I’m just glad to be here, happy to be alive (end of the line)….
See you next time around, Tom.

“Petty is best known for his portrayal of Elroy “Lucky” Kleinschmidt on King of the Hill/jk.”
I did not know that. Great show.
yeah, apparently that 40 year music career was considered obscure.
It did say “jk” at the end.
hahaha me either.
out of everyone we have lost in the past few years i think i will miss him the most. the first dance with my wife was to free falling in the Philippines in 87′. my daughter dancing to running down a dream in 91′. listen to free falling over the headsets in the humvee in Iraq after a former tanker cracked the audio system in the trucks like they would do in their tanks… he gave me a lot of memories that i am truly grateful for. RIP
Rest in peace, Mr. P. Thanks for the musical memories.
