Harry Dean Stanton passes
Bobo sends us the sad news that Harry Dean Stanton has passed at the age of 91. He was featured in hundreds of movies in his 60-year career including Cool Hand Luke, Kelly’s Heroes, Dillinger, The Godfather Part II, Alien, Escape from New York, Christine, Paris, Texas, Repo Man, Pretty in Pink, The Last Temptation of Christ, Wild at Heart, The Straight Story, The Green Mile, Alpha Dog, and Inland Empire.
Like most of his generation, he was a veteran – he served as a cook on a Landing Ship Tanker during the battle of Okinawa. His last performance in “Lucky” will be released later this month, according to TMZ.
He was also a musician, and here’s him and his band (the Harry Dean Stanton Band) doing the Cancion Mixteca;
This from Red Dawn;

I had never heard of this man before. I don’t watch a lot of movies or tv. Strange he had to die and turn up on here for me to become aware of his great talent.
go watch “Alien”. first time I ever really knew who he was. For the longest time, it’s all I knew him for.
A very talented character actor and musician.
RIP Harry Dean Stanton… and thank you for your serivce.
Loved his work. He epitomized the phrase that there are no small parts, only small actors.
One of my favorite roles (and favorite movies) was “Repo Man”, a cult classic from the 80’s. Still a cool movie today.

I remember him mostly from “Repo Man” as well as his role as a Detective in “Christine”.
R.I.P. Sir.
RIP
I remember him best from the movies, “COOL HAND LUKE”, “RED DAWN” (the original version), and, “THE GREEN MILE”.
It greatly saddens me to see him go.
Rest in peace. You’ll be missed Harry.
wow… one of the greats – a man most people did not even notice, but like many other character actors (Stephen Root comes to mind as a modern one, Ben Johnson or Jack Elam in Westerns, Barry Fitzgerald or Edward Everett Horton – they were the salt that gave spice and body to movies.
Wow. That video was a surprise. I have always liked him, but now I wish I had known him. I will be using the Google to see what I have missed.
I will miss this guy. He was everywhere, doing everything.
Bye, Harry. See you next time around.
Great actor.
And as Jonn pointed out, many of his generation were.
Vets that is.
He played the Eng in Down Periscope, one of the better submarine movies, if only because it captured the humor.

Just like a true bubble head. 👍 In one scene he yells “DBF!” (Diesel Boats Forever for all you Non Quals. )
Jonesy the cat just chills & watches Brett (Harry Dean Stanton) get wacked by the alien – ya gotta give a warning Jonesy. Why you need a dog.
RIP Harry, you had one hell of a run.
Harry Dean Stanton made me laugh my ass off in “Down Periscope” and weep like a little girl in “Red Dawn.” Relatively small parts in both movies, but he *owned* them.
He will be missed.
HE played a pathologist in “Young Doctors in Love” in the late 70’s or early 80’s. He was a gifted comedic actor and will be greatly missed.
