Trump approves GWOT memorial
According to Military.com, President Trump approved the creation of a Global War On Terror Memorial “somewhere on “federal land in the District of Columbia.””
The bill to establish the memorial was sponsored in the Senate by Sens. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, an Army veteran of the Iraq War, and Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia.
On the House side, the bill’s sponsors were Reps. Mike Gallagher, R-Wisconsin, and Seth Moulton, D-Massachusetts; both are Marine Corps veterans of the Iraq War.
In a statement, Ernst said “I am thrilled the President has signed into law this important legislation authorizing the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation to begin creating a place of remembrance for those who served, their loved ones, and all impacted by this war.”
Manchin said “I’m proud of the work done by my colleagues in approving the first step towards building a memorial that commemorates our sons and daughters who answered the call to fight.”
It’s too bad that there can’t be bi-partisan support for the actual war like there was for another memorial. By the way, if no one had noticed, the war is still going on, folks are still dying in the war against terror.
Here’s a link to the GWOT Memorial Foundation.
Thanks to Chief Tango for the link.

I was aware of this, had a couple questions then and still have a couple questions.
First, I thought there was a rule that required 10 years (or x number, can’t find it now) from the official, declared end of hostilities before a National monument could be erected, or even begun. That includes even the selecting of the site and the design.
Second, because of this, The Vietnam Wall Memorial is building an indoor, interactive education facility that will have an area for GWOT, until the above situation comes to pass.
Third, will this memorial recognize all active duty deaths, or will it only be those killed in action? If it is the latter, there will be resistance, as the families of the former are officially known as Next of Kin lapel button recipients, but referred to as Gold Stars in the civilian world. The NOK families outnumber the GS families by more than two-to-one, and have a quite vocal minority. Unfortunately, this has caused quite a bit of strife amongst the families, and I’m curious to know how this will be handled in regards to this proposed GWOT monument.
I’m hoping the better minds at TAH will have some insight. At least, I’m curious about the opinions here.
Great Questions Debbie…
There is one that is floating right now that will carry all. include PTS suicide losses.

sorry for calling
you Debbie, Denise
No worries, Mickey, happens all the time.
There is another GWOT wall that includes all the victims of terror, including 9/11, San Bernadino, Boston Marathon, etc. It has over 10,000 names, but does not include NOK.

Can’t speak for all, but the way i see it, the big drama is that, very potentially, there won’t BE an end to hostilities in the GWOT.
Like, ever.
Maybe they should just call it the Perpetual War Memorial with room for expansion.
Yup
Well it’s only a matter of time until our domestic terrorists demand its removal for being racist, sexist, homophobic, islamaphobic, transphobic, etc, etc……
Joe Manchins inclusion is already troubling enough.
I’m astonished they haven’t tried to take the Marines’ monument… you know, wayciss and all that.
Ah so
Nobamm’s kids will just have it removed.
“Undisputed Victory” would make a nice memorial to our fallen.
I hope it’s not some defeatist sob shit like the majority of war memorials are in the west. We could take some lessons from Russia and their amazing war monuments.
With all this hate going on I fear for the Statues and grave sites of our Heroes at ANC.
