Tina Cummings; daughter of the year
Chief Tango sends us links to the story of 55 year-old Tina M. Cummings in Plattsburgh, New York who hid the fact that her 91-year-old father, Ralph F. Tefft, a retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant, had died about three months ago so she could continue receiving his pension checks;
Her father, 91-year-old Ralph F. Tefft, had been dead for three months before a welfare check by Clinton County Adult Protective Services revealed his remains under several blankets on a daybed in his home, State Police Capt. Robert LaFountain said.
Tina Cummings is led into the back of a police car by a New York State Police officer after her arraignment at Plattsburgh Town Court Tuesday evening.
During that time, between Feb. 1 and May 3, he said, “State Police established Cummings received $4,647.20 in Social Security benefits and $15,065.13 in veterans retirement benefits,” he said, “all belonging to Tefft, which were directly deposited into a bank account that Cummings had access to.”
The extensive financial investigation was done in conjunction with District Attorney Andrew Wylie and required issuance of subpoenas, LaFountain said.
Cummings lived with her father and was his primary caregiver.
The coroner says that beyond reporting the death, there is no evidence of wrongdoing, that he died of old-age.

Tefft was a veteran whose military career included service in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Air Corps, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force.
He enlisted near the end of World War II, then served in the Korean War and Vietnam War.
In 1976, he retired as a senior master sergeant in the Air Force. Tefft belonged to American Legion posts 20 and 1619 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 309.
I would hope that his AL and VFW posts would see to his honors and final rest.

I’ve got some good stories on those resusci-Annie faces from my time teaching ARC FA/CPR.
In the time that I knew Tina and her parents, I saw a very loving daughter who did all she could with the little money her BROTHER gave her out of dad’s account in order to buy food etc. for mom and dad. She couldn’t afford to have her own vehicle fixed while her jobless brother bought a new vehicle, motorcycle and traveled the world with his girlfriend. Granted, there is no valid excuse for leaving dad the way they did but know ALL the facts. Big bro was smart enough to bail and leave sis hanging.
What kind of person does that to their own father?

From reading through the article, it looks like Tina has been living off mom & dad for most of her 55 years. She managed to find time for 5 kids, and no income or savings – yep, what could go wrong.

What’s the big deal? She took care of her elderly father, hopefully buried him, then attempted to rip off Uncle. Is that any different than the scum bags who list “mail money” as their occupation and have ten children by four unwed mothers? Cut the woman some slack. Like its been mentioned, all likelihood this woman leeched off her parents all her life. The “Caregiver” title is something that is just an excuse to sponge off parents.
She lived rent-free with all bills and expenses paid in exchange for whatever she did for her dad.
Once he passed away she knew the gravy train had stopped and she figured she’d keep it going.
What a bitch.
I’m afraid that the habit of living off the money for an invalid is way too common.
When I was applying for Medicaid for my invalid brother, I received a call from the state office where I was told that this was the first time that officer had seen the money being used completely correctly. Not for any “questionable” items but only for the individual needing assistance.
I’m not sure how many years this individual has doing that job, but “first time” certainly makes me wonder about the care others are receiving.
My sister and her husband just went to court to be appointed guardians of my disabled nephew, who just turned 18.
Due to my brother in law being a violent douchebag, I fear for my nephew. My sister, a little less. She has put up with his shit for almost 20 years, and when I threatened to put him in the ground a few years ago for his being a shitbag, my sister cut off all contact with me.
