Tuesdays with Claymore

It’s sometimes hard to get a handle on the DU zeitgeist because it seems to wander around like a feral cat. What’s probably a typical example of this is the Fake neighbors always worry about fake landscapers post.

In it, a woman in Florida lives with her husband in a residential development with a home owners association next to a country club and golf course. She has apparently gotten caught up in a feud with her neighbors, the HOA, the country club, and various crews involved in subdivision work projects. One particular point of conflict is what she sees as the savage treatment of gopher turtles on an adjacent property. An example being how contractors sometimes cover up the turtle holes. This is a major outrage. Here’s one of her gems in the comment thread:

“I did mention the gopher turtle habitat in my letter to the Country Club, and I always had a bad feeling about that disclosure because I feared the turtles would now become a target.””

Obviously, there’s a conspiracy of golfers who have nothing better to do than sit around guzzling craft beers and thinking up ways to fuck with gopher turtles.

And that’s okay. She’s welcome to her delusions. What’s remarkable are the rest of the DU commenters who seem to find nothing unusual about it.
