American Assassin
The folks at CBS Films and Lionsgate wanted me to tell you about their new film, American Assassin, due out in September;
AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War.

All kinds of ideas for posers here.
I was headed to the bottom of the page to post just what you wrote JAOD. But, thankfully you did it for me. Posers after the September release in 3…2…
Was thinking the same thing. Lots of “it’s classified” material here.
Or the classic “I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you…”.
Mitch mothafuckin’ Rapp!!!
Hopefully they do justice to the source material. Not entirely sure I trust Hollywierd not to bastardized it now that Vince Flynn (God rest him) is no longer around to keep them in line.
I’m definitely going to see it, though!
Absolutely!!! I’ve read all of the book from Vince Flynn and even the ones who pick up the story after Mr. Flynn’s passing.
I can’t wait to see the movie.
Well Whitey, when they start off with a sensitive, metrosexual protagonist, a black female assistant CIA director and all the trailer villains depicted by white/Anglo males, don’t you think this production is likely to be slathered pretty heavily with layer after layer of political correctness?
And I’ve read all the Rapp series.
I think I’ll stick to science fiction. Hollywood the Industry hasn’t had an original idea since Buster Keaton let the house fall on him. They couldn’t write a good spy script if their lives depended on it.
Word.
Amen!
Think it was Stephen King who told an author upset that Hollywierd had screwed with his plot that once they owned the film rights they could do anything they wanted to with it. Think your plot line is sacred? Don’t sell it.
Old agent and newbie… yeah, that’s fresh.
“Old agent and newbie… yeah, that’s fresh.” Fresh as 10 day old fish. Hollywood has been there and done, done, done, done, done that some more.
No thanks. Read a couple, thought they were good. But this is Hollywood. All the bad guys will be White Supremacist. All the good guys will be Islamic. All the Evil will be a corporate White dude. They will have a comedy relief ethnic Person and a quirky “Punk” “Hacker”. All the “Agents” will carry “Ceramic Glocks”!with “Teflon” bullets in a shoulder holster.
As you can see, not holding out much hope. They have raped and ruin many good franchises.
Wait a minute. I’ve seen that movie!
I’m a big Mitch Rapp fan myself, but I think my relationship with anything Hollywood is over also.
Come on JacktheJarhead! You just gave away ALL the spoilers for the film. Good call though.
I don’t trust Hollyweird with anything. I’ve read all Vince’s Rapp books. I think I’ll pass unless reviews here indicate it’s not f*cked up. Heck, even then I’ll probably pass; haven’t been to a movie in years.
Ceramic Glocks which can only be fired when held sideways…
Is there any other way to shoot a Glock? 😉
Let me get this straight. CBS Films and Lionsgate is now asking for help from TAH to promote its films?
This is starting down a slippery slope. The next thing you know, Jonn will be hanging out at the Polo Lounge talking box-office points for the screen rights to a script about a fake-CPO-lawer-bad-pilot.
Things could easily get out of control…
Oh, no no no no No NO! I am NOT watching that clip and getting enticed into watching The Hunt for Red October for the third time this year…
Maybe.
Well, “Red October” was a rare example of a movie adaptation that actually turned out good, in spite of having Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan.
I actually thought Alec Baldwin (in his much younger incarnation) was a much more believable Jack Ryan than Harrison Ford. Besides being too old, Ford is too much of an “action guy.”
Whereas the whole POINT of the Jack Ryan franchise was that he WASN’T an action guy, but he kept finding himself in action guy scenarios.
Hunt For Red October was an unmitigated hunk of celluloidal shit.
JMO. About the only decent submarine movies are Das Boot and Down Periscope. My fellow brothers of the ‘phin may be able to add a couple more, but not many.
Let the Airdale chime in. Two words, “Top Gun.”
Beat the shit out of having Ben Affleck play Ryan, although I was kind of surprised that I liked Chris Pine in Shadow Recruit.
Surprised they didn’t make Flynns first book, ‘Term Limits’ into a movie. That would be worth watching.
Yes, indeed. But, that’s why Hollyweird won’t touch it.
Then again, all of the victims of the assassin would be progressive, he’d be a conservative, and the CIA would be taking orders from Big Pharma.
