David Eubank saving the world
MustangCryppie sends us a link from the Daily Mail which features the story of 56-year-old David Eubank, a former US Army special forces soldier who founded an aide organization “Free Burma Rangers” and he’s currently in Mosul, Iraq helping the folks there caught in the war against ISIS. Anyway, here’s the video of what he’s doing there;
‘I thought, “If I die doing this, my wife and kids would understand”,’ Eubank told the Los Angeles Times.
Wearing a helmet and ballistic vest, Eubank charged into the kill zone and retrieved the young girl, who had her hair tied with pink ribbons.
Eubank returned to find the toddler, but was unsuccessful. Another injured man the team tried to save did not survive.

BZ, sir. Well done.
Would a Muslim have done that?
Asking for a friend.
Yes. Don’t bring religion into this. I work with a number of muslims, several who are Iraqi, that have jumped in to save a patients life, even though what I asked them to do exceeded their scope of practice. This man is doing what he feels is right in his heart, much like most of us do when a life is on the line. Kudos to him for saving human beings, regardless of religion.
SSG D – fair enough. There are some decent guys of Muslim faith. We can acknowledge that.
Perhaps one should say “Would most Muslims in that area of the world do that?”
On the “Yes” side are the folks that took in Marcus Luttrell and another Christian missionary whose name I forget at the moment.
But it seems – and this may be perception only – that many of those folks hide behind women and children, and sacrifice them to save their own hides.
Probably not. I’m answering for a friend.
A good man would. Some lesser man would not have. Religion is immaterial; there are good and bad men in every one.
Has nothing to do with religion, and everything to do with the golden rule.
Just remember that “the Golden Rule” is a Christian concept.
(And yes, I know that there are variations in other religions.)
Interesting point. The oldest known Papyrus (2900 B.C.) contains a version of the golden rule.
Rather than “Do unto others…”, it says “don’t do to others what you would not want done to you.”
So…when the fukk as a species are we going to figure this out? 🙂
Intellectually understanding something and putting it into practice are never one and the same. Do you smoke? Drink? Horn dog after crazy women? (gotcha) – it would be probably more productive to ask “is there any self-destructive behavior we haven’t embraced and clutched tight to our silly little chests forever?”
And the answer to that question is an unequivocal “No.”
Sadly.
I understand what you’re saying, however, self destructive behavior is one thing…inhumanity to others is quite another.
My drinking and consensual boinking has no ill effect on anyone else
Well, the drinking is guaranteed not good for you (says the guy who loves his beer and bourbon) – I’m just pointing out that as a whole, humanity definitely goes into the ‘slow learner’ group. If not indeed to the ‘short bus’.
Gave up the high cost of low living many years ago (drinking), never smoked and sex… well once a month (maybe) whether I need it or not…
Lol
My terp risked his life every time he went on patrol with us…he planned to eat a bullet if it came down to being captured. Bravery knows no demographic boundary.
BZ!
..and Obama got a Nobel Peace Prize for what again exactly?
For existing.
Clarification:
For not being Bush.

Why would you put your family in such a hazardous situation?
Exactly-I can understand using your skills for a more dangerous mission as a calling of his faith post military-I’m a Christian myself and former Marine. I get that.
But I cannot fathom the idea of bringing his wife and kids to Mosul to do so. I hope (and pray) they stay safe.
It is hard to explain, I know.
But if you know the story of Jim Elliot, Ed McCully, Roger Youderian, Pete Fleming, and Nate Saint you know that sometimes there are those who feel led of God to risk their lives, and those of their families, sharing the Gospel.
There are two young ladies from my church in areas of the world where they could be killed for sharing the Gospel. One is single, the other married with two pretty little daughters.
On the other hand, I’ve had a pastor in northern Mexico beg me to not come to his area because of the danger – danger he and his family face daily.
The short answer to “Why would you…” is “Because that is how we feel God has led us.”
Jim Elliot’s famous quote is “He is no fool who parts with that which he cannot keep, when he is sure to be recompensed with that which he cannot lose”.
In more on “how that part of the world works” showing her face was a mistake. Her family will need to go in to hiding now.
If you need to do that on your own home turf, witch I hope we never have to do is one thing. Taking them into the shit is another. Can’t question his metal but not sure about his reasoning.
Damned well done Sir. God protect you and your team.
Amen.
I am fairly certain God or my guardian angel has protected me numerous times and I am not ashamed to say I have prayed very resolutely from time to time. Still I wonder why anyone would for instance go to a place like North Korea for vacation for example.
If this is the same David Eubank that I knew in Panama when we were in 1/187th Inf.
He was a very religious man and he grew up in Thailand, his folks were missionaries.
I say God bless him and his family!
Yes, I served with Dave while he was still in SF, we were both tm ldrs together in the same company. Dave has a passion and belief in Father and what he does shows his belief and his calling. I would serve with this man any time. Truly a man who inspires others.
I will say a prayer for them and ask God to continue to keep them safe. Lord knows they have earned a place in heaven.
How does he run so fast with balls that big?
