The media’s obsession with deviance

| June 7, 2017

Someone sent us this story from the Miami Herald which found space in it’s fish wrap to answer the public’s question that it never asked. A first time visiting reporter to Guantanamo asked a newly-posted Navy doctor if he’d perform gender reassignment surgery on a Guantanamo detainee.

“Anything that a detainee requests from a medical standpoint, we will consider,” said the North Carolina-licensed family medicine physician, who goes by Cmdr. SMO 2. “You know, we haven’t gotten there. But it is 2017.”

The doctor said that gender transition was not on the list of scenarios that Detention Center leadership was considering in its long-range healthcare needs for a population of 41 prisoners, who range in age from the mid-30s to almost 70.

But if it came up, “that’s something I would have to address with the patient individually, figure out what needs we would have to do to meet that.”

In other words, no one is asking for the procedure so why are you asking?

Of course, the reporter was fishing for something for which they could feign outrage. He/she was hoping that the doctor would tell him/her “Nope, we don’t do that here” so they could launch into an editorial tirade about the anti-deviant military and it’s mistreatment of detainees. Instead, it turned into a big nothing-burger 20-paragraph article about how they don’t have an article. It’s probably Trump’s fault.

Reporters show an unhealthy interest in other peoples sex lives.

Two possible reasons:
a) the reporters have no sex lives of their own
b) the reporters are sexual deviants attempting to normalize their perversions.

Other reasons may exist.

Bill M

I believe the correct answer to the above is b.

UpNorth

I’ll take “the reporters are sexual deviants attempting to normalize their perversions” for $1000, Alex.

Roh-Dog

I have to back up the previous comments.
My theory, they’re all cucks.

Thunderstixx

This young reporterette just got a lesson on their behavior and it certainly wasn’t pretty. But I’m certain that someone here would hit it…

“a 20-paragraph nothing burger” – colorful, eloquent, directly to the point. Nicely done.

He should’ve interviewed the camp staff to ask if they would provide whiskey, bacon cheeseburgers, and Hustler magazines. Then he could’ve gone to the camp chaplain to see if Wiccan services would be supported.

Bill M

Don’t give them ideas.

I can see that there is probably a line a mile long at Club Gitmo for the whackadickadectomy from all of those detainees… NOT!

I’m guessing that the religion of “Al” and “Moe” probably frowns on that stuff.

The Other Whitey

What a brilliant question to ask! I’m sure a bunch of scumbags incarcerated for their involvement in an organization that throws gay men off of highrise rooftops are very interested in exploring the transgender lifestyle. Good job, Miami Herald! Keep asking the tough questions!

As I see it it’s just libs doing what they live to do – CELEBRATE PERVERSITY.

I am so stealing that, thanks!

I’ll take a different approach; maybe he’s on to something. Send these jihadists back to their homeland as woman…see how they like it.

My guess is they won’t and they’ll be burned alive, then thrown off a building, and then beheaded by all the tolerant ‘moos-lims’ when they get back home.

After doing it to one detainee, threaten the rest with the same procedure and I’m sure they’ll sing like canaries. Done and done.

akpual

Damn, that’s a great idea.

Thunderstixx

Cut off their goat teaser pleasers, give them a mangina and pump them full of estrogen until they grow titties. Then shave their legs and dress them in women’s underwear and dump them out in the middle of Syria or som other pleasant mudslime environment and see what happens !!!
I like where this thread is going !!!

Reminds me of a segment on the John & Ken Show on KFI in Los Angelas back in the 1990’s. One of those professional litigant law firms filed a suit against a strip club. Why? Because the strip club had a stage where patrons could watch a woman take a shower, and the shower was not handicap accessible. John & Ken interviewed the club owner, and he said that he never had anyone in a wheelchair apply for a job as a performer. John (maybe it was Ken) asked who would even want to pay to watch a woman in a wheelchair take a shower. This being LA, someone quickly called in saying how sexually aroused he gets watching women in wheelchairs taking showers.

I miss those guys.

What an asshat.
Maybe they can do elective surgery to this reporter to correct an abnormality from birth.

Yes, the obsession of the media with what everyone does or does not do sexually is totally inappropriate and more than a little creepy. Maybe it’s all part of the elimination of private vs public activity. I dunno. It just seems that the old saw “If it bleeds it leads” has been expanded to include anything which might be prurient to someone, the more the merrier.

For those of us who really don’t care what consenting adults do privately, it’s come to be that we are being made to care whether we want to or not. “Look at what these folks are doing” isn’t news nor is asking a doc at Gitmo questions such as this.

My own take is that although the Herald story has some flaws, there is a likely explanation for some of it.

First of all, both the story and photos were done by Carol Rosenberg who was apparently on site in Guantanamo. Rosenberg confuses things by a third-person reference to herself in the second graf as “a first-time visiting” reporter. It’s like using the editorial “we” instead of the first-person “myself” or whatever.

Since the story came from the Miami Herald, anything having to do with Guantanamo probably has more relevance than it might otherwise. Part of this is likely due to the presence of the Cuban community in Miami who, as far as I’m aware, tend to be conservative. The headline on the story seems to tease the idea that Guantanamo prisoners might be coddled with gender transition therapy. Unfortunately for Rosenberg’s story, the Navy doc didn’t rule it out, but also didn’t provide evidence such was going to happen.

Sometimes what local editors do to provide news content is to try for a local hook to a larger national story. In this situation, you have the recent release of Bradley Manning from Leavenworth. A short time later, on maybe a slow news day, a good idea fairy could have whispered in some Herald editor’s ear that it would be interesting to check out the transgender issue down in Guantanamo. The result might seem a non-story to those of us outside Miami, but not to those who live there.

I miss Dave Barry and Carl Haiisen… now those were columnists whose perversions I could relate to.

Perry Gaskill

One of the other well-known writers at the Herald was Edna Buchanan on the crime beat. She could write a murder story lede like she was packing two in shoulder holsters, another on the ankle, and carrying a switchblade in her purse.

David

stop, I’m getting all… y’know, tingly and woody

Dave Hardin

Jonn posts article about ridiculous medical care options at Guantanamo and you people jump right to stories about handicapped strippers in the shower.

I love this place.

Toasty Coastie

Apparently “this reporter” has no idea who the detainees are. Stoopid Hobo Biscuit.

Carlton G. Long

The Navy doc is to be commended for his professionalism in not telling the reporter to go troll somewhere else.

In my view, this intense interest in other peoples’ sex lives is extremely unhealthy. It borders on obsession.

It’s almost as if the people who keep yakking about it ad nauseum were caught watching prun when they were 12 – something like that – and were punished for it, and now they have this creepy need to find out what other people do when they’re having sex – which is NONE of their freakazoid business.

It is NOT mentally healthy to be this obsessed with sex and other peoples’ sex lives and/or sexuality.

Graybeard

“It is NOT mentally healthy to be this obsessed with sex and other peoples’ sex lives and/or sexuality.”

And there is a working definition of “reporter”…

Just An Old Dog

Just a reflection on society. Sexual deviates used to be gossiped about even as far back as the Romans.
America for a long time was conservative in what was put in print and on film. In the past decades that had been changed with the loss of morality and values.
Every other reality show is some sort of sexual train wreck.
Reporters are also competing to pander outrage stories to the SJWs.

TheOldMaj

I am fully in favor of performing immediate gender reassignment surgery on every prisoner in gitmo, immediately. We then release them back on to the battlefield where they were found and try our best to link them up with their old friends.
