Harry Mercer; phony Vietnam veteran
Someone sent us their work on this fellow, Harry Alan Mercer who claims that he was a Gunnery Sergeant (E-7) in the Marine Corps. Here is the DD214 that he hands out to folks;
If I’m not mistaken, the Marines don’t call their Naval Parachutist Badge “Gold Jump Wings” nor do they call the Diver Insignia a “Scuba Bubble” on their DD214s. They probably spell “Expert” correctly, too. I see on the DD214, he also claims to be Recon and that he attended “Seal” training.
I see in the picture above that he’s wearing a Combat Action Ribbon, the Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Cross of Gallantry. The Marine Corps doesn’t remember awarding those to Mercer;
Yeah, he was too young to participate in the Vietnam War. It looks like he made Sergeant in about three years of service, so he was a good Marine and then he did this.

Another rancid cheery on top of the shit sundae! Why do they have to take a perfectly good career and then shit all over it? Ass Hamster Cocksucker!
“What lurks beneath?”
All-Points Logistics.
He pinched off a huge steaming loaf on his service record…..that’s just sad.
Pssst, little girl wanna see my DD 214?
Whatever happened to being proud of “I was a Marine NCO.” Even though he was a Hollywood Marine vice from Parris Island. He was still a Marine.
Why take a dump all over perfectly honorable service.
Hey, them surfboards would get heavy on a march! I’m surprised he didn’t call the NAM (NMAM) a WM Good Conduct Medal.
MCRD SD class of ’86
NMCAM
John,
It doesn’t say SEAL on his DD214. It says seal. Which means he trained to make barking noises and wear funny clown clothes….
That’s the way I wrote it – “Seal”.
Haha. Just being facetious.
Ass gasket…….
And he is leaking
Booger-eating pisspants Swamp Donkey!
I’m tired of this phony forged DD-214 shit; time for the feds to actually enforce the law and prosecute this scumbag for forging a federal document…
^^^ THIS ^^^
implement block-chain in federal documents, end the forgeries…
If he was a ‘good’ Marine, why did he leave after 3 years? Hmmm…. must not have been getting enough attention, perhaps?
I believe that 3 years was the normal term of service at that time, but it does make you wonder why he didn’t reenlist.
I was a good soldier and never reenlisted after a four year hitch. A very good soldier.
True, but you don’t go around claiming stuff that you might have earned if you had reenlisted, but didn’t. It seems to me that if he was such a hotshot and had aspirations to do and be more in the USMC, he would have (and could have) reenlisted.
Eh, I wouldn’t actually fault him for that. Military life is not for everybody and the tradition of the “citizen/soldier” I think is a good one. I have no problem with those who want to do one term of service and then move on to other things. They did their bit, carried the load that others of their generation did not, and then went on and lived their lives. Nothing remotely wrong with that. In fact, when I think about it, it’s funny to me that I turned out to be a “lifer,” because that was never my intention. I joined the Army because it sounded interesting and I had no intention of just going off to college and then getting a white collar job at Consolidated Widget putting cover sheets on the TPS reports like most of my high school classmates – that just had no appeal to me. I clearly remember that I didn’t want money, I didn’t want fame – what I wanted, when I was a teenager, was life experience. I wanted to go places most people didn’t go and do things most people didn’t do. I wanted to be “interesting” in the same way my dad (who served 4 tours in Vietnam and traveled a lot of the world) was “interesting.” I enjoyed what I was doing and just kept doing it and then I looked back and holy crap! I had a 20 year letter in my hands. Actually, that’s one of the reasons I get a little embarrassed when someone “thanks” me for my service – because it wasn’t a “sacrifice” to me. It’s not like I said “Oh, I’m going to put my real career on hold and go off and serve because, gosh darn it, I just love America so much!” The Army was the great adventure of my life and even when it sucked (which it did, pretty often) it was still an awesome adventure and one I don’t regret a bit. But it’s not for everybody, and I totally respect that. Not everybody wants the same things out of… Read more »
I followed pretty much the same path, except for a short-lived but spectacularly disastrous college career. It was supposed to be 4 years and a wiser, more sober attempt at college. 24 years went by and one day the body just said “no mas, retire NOW!” It never really felt like service.
When I first joined up I noticed that in most units there was some older, long experienced soldier who had been all over the world and done a lot of cool stuff. They weren’t necessarily the ones with the highest rank but they usually had the best (and funniest) stories, and I always looked up to them.
I don’t even remember when it was – probably some time around 1996 when I had left active duty and was in a USAR unit based at Bragg – by that time I would have had over 10 years of active service and probably 14 years total service – when it occurred to me that the crusty old NCO was ME.
Which was funny to me because in my own mind, I was still the “dumb private” back in Germany who got called out in front of the formation by 1SG Powell for running and jumping in the back of a moving truck when we were horsing around in the motor pool.
I think I was at the USAR center, meeting up with some young recruit (seriously some of them were 18 years old and still in high school) and thinking “Damn, when did I become the cranky old lifer? I don’t remember that happening!” 😀
I’ll bet most of the other “lifers” here had a similar moment.
As a Gunny and MSgt, I used to do some off the wall things just to give the Marines something to tell their friends years later.
“You wouldn’t believe what my ol’ Gunny/MSgt did one time…”
Same thing. The only thing I excelled at in college was Fraternity Life. Finally got a degree as a First sergeant, the hard way (at night). Was supposed to be a quick four to unscrew myself and then back to college. Retired at 21.
But he clearly didn’t “move on to other things”. If he regretted getting out, he shouldn’t have had any trouble getting back in, but he chose to pretend instead.
Not even a good fake DD-214. Apparently he made E-7 in about 4 years, but, somehow, the USMC failed to recognize his stellar performance as a Marine with another promotion before he ETS’d 6 years later. I’ve never heard of a duty station with “@$” in its name. I also like how the clerk randomly changed out the typeface ball on the IBM Selectric at least 2, and maybe three, different times, just to add some flavor to the document. All of that in addition to the stuff that Jonn pointed out.
I’m guessing that he used his real DD-214 to get into the marine Corps League since anyone who’s ever seen a DD-214 can tell that this one is BS from a mile away. I’m just wondering how he’s getting away with wearing all of that extra crap while representing them.
From looking at his Faccebook page, someone has actually given him a position of leadership in the Young Marines program in Nashville. I can only guess at the war stories that he’s telling those poor kids.
Noticed the same thing. Not making accusations, just noticing how often Stolen Valor goes along with folks who want to mentor young kids.
Best case scenario: All of the good that *could* be accomplished by someone with pure intent is flushed down the crapper.
Worst case scenario: I don’t really need to go there do I?
Sad to say, but I don’t think this is a coincidence.
After all, being a “decorated veteran” carries with it an implied guarantee of forthrightness, reliability and trustworthiness, doesn’t it?
And it is exactly that implied trust that makes parents confident to leave their children in people’s care, right?
So what better cover for a potential tickle monster to assume in order to feed his fetish? And what better way to deflect any accusations of impropriety?
“How dare you accuse him of such a shameful act! Don’t you know this man is a HERO??? He put his life on the line for people like you!”
How many times have we seen this play out?
Mercer was relieved of Young Marine duty following an adulterous incident of which the kids were cognizant. His MCL “trial” comes up in April.
Yay, Thank You, Tah-Fucking DAH, and please follow up and let us know the results.
Mucho Appreciated.
Ed,
Since you seem to be on the inside of this, maybe you can point the MCL folks conducting the “trail” to this page, just to ensure they know the man’s character.
BZ!
I’m not actually sure of all that’s going on but, my son was a Music City Young Marine under Mr. Westbrook’s and Mr. Mercer for 3 years and I know a lot of people on here are saying a lot of bad things about him but, he was good to the kids which I can’t say the same for Mr. Westbrook’s and NO, HE DIDN’T TELL THE KIDS WAR STORIES!!!! He did though teach the kids about respect for the corps and other things and he’s also the reason my oldest son is in his 4th year with the corp, he was always there for me and my kids and everyone else and I’ve met several gentlemen that told me how they served with Mr. Mercer.. Everyone has their own opinion but, my son loves Mr. Mercer and so do all the other kids and their parents!!!
He’s a phony, that’s not an opinion it’s a fact. The facts are not swayed by your words and excessive use of exclamation points and capitalization.
BRILLIANT MOVE resurrecting a dormant thread, now you’re redirecting the power of Google®™ BACK ON Harry Mercer who is a proven fraud.
Harry Mercer is a proven fraud.
And it’s Corps. Capital “C” with an “s” on the end.
Yes, he did tell war stories. He pointed a, albeit unloaded, handgun at children during firearms training and told them BS stories about his “recon days”. I know because my son was right there with yours and I pulled my son out of the program when this tool took over because he is a walking talking scam! I’m not a Marine and never was. Just a Marine brat. However, this man is puke. A slap in the face of all veterans and he shit on an otherwise honorable service. He’s a disgrace to his uniform. There is NOT A DAMN THING honorable about a man who lies about his service and continues to feed that bullshit to anyone who will listen. Once these kids grow up and realize he is a fraud they won’t love him so much… and they’ll think even LESS of him if they serve. He used this BS to get his security job and lie to the masses. The Young Marines kicked him out, the Marine Corps League kicked him out, the only thing that would be better is if the government would do its job and put his ass in a cell for forging a federal document and using fake veteran status for personal gain. Anyone who defends this guy…well that speaks volumes about their character.
Also, Westbrooks is a real Marine who didn’t bullshit about his service. He also didn’t baby your kid and give him a paci when he was wrong. He made him correct it and earn his rank. So your hatred for the real marine and support of the fake one is extremely misguided. Westbrooks is a fine Marine with an honorable record. It’s a shame Westbrooks made the kids EARN their rank and ribbons. Mercer gave them out like participation trophies just like he gave himself skills on that fake ass document up there. Mercer was there teaching kids about honor while pulling this BS and you support that? GTFOH.
Bad Wiredog, Bad!!
Oughta smack you on the nose with a rolled up CEOI.
Take off my badges, D-Bag!!!
But he got an NDSM. That’s as good as being recon, right?
3 of ’em…triple threat
Don’t forget the Good “Coduct”(Star)… Whatever that means.
Isn’t that the little gold star the kindergarten teacher puts next to your name when you behave well or correctly ask permission to use the potty?
I am having trouble in understanding hvy/equiment op/CH53 /crew chief. Only mechs were allowed to be Crew Chiefs. Joe P. S. Air Wings but no Air Medals.
My cat can do a better job of typing a DD-214 that that piece of shit paper that HARRY “Ballsack” MERCER is throwing around as “proof” of his service.
He’s also part of the Marine Corps League and the Young Marines in Tennessee… a real “role model” for kids – NOT!
HARRY “Ballsack” MERCER couldn’t be happy with the being a Marine or a SERGEANT OF MARINES… no, he had to go BALLS DEEP and embellish his service.
HARRY “Ballsack” MERCER – MOTHERFUCKING COCKSUCKING ASS HAMSTER!
And because of the forged DD214 and because he lied to get into a position to be around KIDS (WARNING, WARNING, DANGER WILL ROBINSON!!!!)
“I move that Harry Mercer; phony Vietnam veteran has earned the WALL O SHAME.”
Second?
After Second, all those in favor to say, “aye”
Everyone say Aye.
AYE!!!!
We need a Second, first. THEN Aye.
Plus I should have deleted the “Everyone say Aye”. That was a cut and paste error.
I have multiple Aye votes so I’ll accept HMCS(FMF) ret’s “Aye” vote as a Second and then Norman’s “Aye” as a positive.
The motion passes.
AYE!!!
Aye!!!!
AYE!
Seal training as opposed to SEAL training. The former being the ability to sit up, bark and clap for a fish meal?
Well by the look of him I don’t doubt he barks and claps for fish so I have know doubt he could be a seal and he does have the requisitie nose whiskers…I doubt he’s jumping out of the water through any hoops…more like flopping ashore, but whatever works for you I guess.
Way to fuck your honorable service in the ass ya moron….
The only “seal” training he’s ever done was opening his sphincter.
Just noticed on line #30 on his DD214, his initials are “H.A.M” (Harry Alan Mercer).
Since I am caffeine deficient this morning, I bow to the better minds here on TAH to take liberties with his initials.
Have at it “youse guys”!
Really cheesy, isn’t it?
Based on the motion above, the Second and then the Aye vote, here it is…. TACTICAL NUCLEAR ROUND OUT!!!! DANGER CLOSE!!!! MOPP LEVEL 4!!! TAKE COVER!!!!! May he lay a lip lock on the snotty end of a moose cock.
Added to the primary document.
YAY!
*Note: We have yet to reference a Moose so it’s all good!!
Couple of things jumped out at me on that clearly bogus DD-214:
(1) He was discharged in May of 1983 but contributed to the Montgomery GI Bill – A program that IIRC was created in 1984 or thereabouts. Was he awarded a “time traveler” MOS designator?
(2) For a guy with ZERO foreign service (block 12) he sure has a lot of medals. 😉
Good eye… I am still stuck in the time loop. I found 4 discrepancies, but let’s tick with the big one.
If he entered 19730106, and left in 19830529.
Then he had prior inactive service that was 5 mo and 29 days. That does not leave 10 years flat of service.
I mean, this is petty.. but it is just amazingly retarded. Me must have thought “since I don’t know how the numbers and dates goes on here, nobody else will know”..
TYPO, WAS NOT a Gunnery Sergeant (E-7) in the Marine Corps
Oh, I forgot, the commencement date for his Good Conduct Medal: “19082905?” What in the actual fuck is that? 29 May 1908?
Well, hell he probably served with Chesty Puller and Smedley Butler then! What a stud!
Ha, ha. Yep, I saw that too!
Rode with Sherman.
Except he died in 1891
Chesty was 10 years old in 1908….hah!
Harry Mercer was Dan Daly’s platoon sergeant. True story!
As a Marine Corps League member myself, I sure as hell hope his detachment kicked his sorry ass the hell out. I’ve heard that my detachment had to do that once or twice before.
From his assignments I see he was in MACS-2, MAG-24 during some of the time I was assigned to the unit. It was a good assignment but alas, no combat deployments. And to think that some of us younger Marines might have actually looked up to him. D-bag D-lux.
“MACS-2, MAG-24”
oh yeah, those units are Chock full O’ Reconnaissance Marines
MACS? Oh for fuck’s sake, we finally have our own phony….lucky us.
Even his real paperwork is odd. MACS (Marine Air Control Squadron) are under the command of MACGs (Marine Air Control Group), not MAGs. MACS-2 is a component of MACG-28. In Iraq, they ran TQ while MACS-1 (my squadron) ran Al-Asad.
I have a letter that makes it look like he was claiming participation in Operation Eagle Pull (the evacuation of Cambodia, April 1975) but he was in 1st Marine Brigade FMF in Hawai’i at the time, so that was a no-go, too.
Special consultant. Those were just regular Marines after all. Not dual cool Recon studs like Harry. They needed his guidance.
I just can’t believe that a rifle “experct” would ever lie!!!
No, but seriously – the extra ‘c’ is for “crap”!!!
Aha! That’s where the “c” went when they typed an “Artic” service ribbon into my record. Mystery solved.
Turd.
So looking at this, this Faggot lying piece of shit oxygen thief lives in Bowling Green? That’s cool, my in-laws are all up the Fort Knox way. I’d love to lay eyes on this worthless piece of shit that can’t even lie well. Much as I used to tell Marines coming me so I could read them their rights before the NJP, if you’re too stupid to get away with it, you really shouldn’t do the crime. this piece of shit and his Down’s syndrome level DD-214 should have stayed on the straight and narrow. he’s to retarded for fakery.
Careful… He’s probably a 24th degree Blackbelt as well.
Hopefully we’ll find out. I messaged him on facebook. Also messaging my old Tank Leader (MGySgt, JNROTC) this man pig does not need to be around the Young Marine program.
He’s not any more, I am apart of the program and he was kicked out a few weeks ago.
Marine Corps League needs to take that shitbag to the treeline.
And leave him there.
I have reported this to the Marine Corp League. They have assured me this will be handled.
Look above. They have commented.
Ed Evans, MGySgt., USMC (Ret.) says:
Very busy man.
Bobo, his E-7 in 4 years (73-77) is even more amazing when you consider that he was at USC for 3 of them. And don’t forget the 6 years with the TNANG.

Harry can be reached at 615 512 XXXX
None of that, unfortunately.
I think someone may have been contacted. Facebook account. Poof.
Cocksucker.
I knew this guy for awhile. Everytime he talked about what he did in the Marine Corp, it always sounded like it was rehearsed. He has literally lied to my face. Dumb bitch. He has lied to hundreds of youth and has even been down to Parris Island and told real Marines his bullshit. If you would like to send words of encouragement, his email is gunny11@icloud.com. Fuck him.
So got home from work, primed the walls in a bedroom I’m painting and just went through every Harry Mercer on Facebook. The account with the OOHRAH picture of Harry Alan Mercer in camouflage utilities looking like a stern dual cool Gunnery Sergeant with time on the street has disappeared faster than the original of that Down’s Syndrome level DD 214 he was sporting. Looks like Mr. Lilyea has ruined the day of another. And I never got a response from him on messenger. I did contact a Master Gunnery sergeant since retired and on JROTC duty in Kentucky, and he is going to copy the Marine Corps League in Tennessee and Kentucky. I emailed the Tennessee Commandant today. This posing turd can suck a bag of dicks, as LCpl Benatz would say.If I didn’t have the honor to serve with, and was still in awe of, THE Hack Stone, I would swear it’s a comm man thing.
I have contacted the local charter here in TN where he was a member of and let them know. He is such a disappointment. Fucking retard.
I am not sure what this pile of Dung’s job was ? His 214 reads bubble chaser and CH53 crew chief. Also maybe Ground Support driver. Strange that he lists flight crew wings(not c ombat air wings) with no Air Medals awarded. Joe
He seems to have captured whatever struck his fancy, w/o rhyme or reason. I guess you could call it the all-you-can-eat approach to a DD214.
on his assignments page it said Comm school MCRD San Diego. Hack, those schools in MCRD back then?
