High-Five Friday; Buh-Bye
Apparently children of illegal aliens in Northampton, Massachusetts may feel uncomfortable by meanie police officer high-fives. I am curious if the mention of Three Kings Day made any non-Christian types “uncomfortable”.
A police department in Northampton, Massachusetts is ending its “High-Five Friday” program at local elementary schools due to concerns that “undocumented children” and others may feel “uncomfortable” seeing an officer at school.
The program, started by the Northampton Police Department in December, had officers stand outside of a school each Friday morning to high-five students as they walked in to begin the day.
Sure, let’s not use this opportunity to teach our children to respect law enforcement. The police officers are providing a great community outreach program for the children in this school district and the adults are concerned about lawsuits and feelings. How does an undocumented parent enroll an undocumented child into school with no documents anyway? There must be two sets of rules.
Now, the program has been canceled due to concerns that it may make minority students and illegal immigrants feel uncomfortable, LawNewz reported Tuesday.
“While we received a lot of support on social media, we also heard a few concerns about the program,” the department wrote on Saturday.
Police Chief Jody Kasper had attended a school committee meeting to discuss potential problems with the program. Questions came up during the meeting on how effective the program would be in the long term and how comfortable the students would be seeing officers at the beginning of the school day. The police department was then asked to temporarily pause the “High-Five Friday,” which it did.
It lasted two months. But hey, lets teach the children that police officers are boogeymen.
Kasper then attended another public meeting to discuss the program. At the gathering, “people were specifically concerned about kids of color, undocumented children, or any children who may have had negative experiences with the police,” according to the department.
Kasper and the superintendent provost then decided to permanently cancel the program.
“For a large portion of our population this program may not seem controversial. However, we cannot overlook the fact that this program may be received differently by some members of our community”
The rationale to cancel this program is the most absurd that I have ever heard. These police officers are there to encourage these children to excel in school and give the students the opportunity to thank those that protect them. I doubt they showed up to deport little Maria. Those that receive this program differently must be violating our laws or something; and by golly, we need to make them feel comfortable doing it.

This is Marxichusetts, and Northampton is in one of the Marxiest parts of Marxichusetts; is anyone surprised?
I’m not at all surprised. I remember one day, when I was a student at the Hawley Grammar Junior High School, we had a mandatory assembly. The guest speakers were the Viet Nam Veterans Against the War; there were no other speakers lest we hear more than one side of the story. Only a fool would believe 13 year olds had the clout the end the war; but, if the Marxists wait until you can think for yourself, they’re too late. One of my class mates was sorely disappointed when she couldn’t get the Vice-Principal’s backing for a May Day celebration and she didn’t mean the type with the flower baskets and candies.
Aw gee, makes the illegal invaders nervous? golly Vern…maybe the chico’s and chica’s will say ” mamacito” TAKE ME HOME TO MESS-E-CO!!
“minority” = “illegal immigrants”
I see what they did there. Conflation at its worst.
Not to mention that they DON’T mention “illegal immigrants” = “illegal ALIENS”.
Cognitive Dissonance at it’s worst.
No. It’s intentional Orwellian DoubleSpeak.
Indeed.
If it makes just one person uncomfortable then it cannot be allowed to happen. That is liberalism in a nutshell.
Absolutely can’t have the little darlings developing a healthy relationship with law enforcement types. No, no, NO! Could lead to something good, and we can’t have that.
Lefties don’t project much do they? (Yeah, that was sarcasm.)
I guess truth hurts, then? Instead of giving the cops the image of being kid-friendly and supportive, the school system has turned them into the enemy in the blink of an eye.
That’s just B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T!!! BRILLIANT!!
Let’s do some more stuff like that! Let’s tell them that the school system’s requirement for vaccinations (to prevent the spread of really bad diseases) will not only give them a trackable record of some kind, but will also make them sick! Even more brilliant!
And when the fire fighter emerges from the smoking ruins with their child in his arms they will complain about the pollution from the smoke and water.
It’s so obvious that these days liberals put their maximum effort into finding things they want to feel offended or intimidated by, what a bunch of WUSSES.
I think we should make a list of things they find offensive. I have a dictionary….
Oh, wait, everything in the dictionary offends them.
Never mind.
They’re the people that would screech and bawl about inadequate seat cushions on a lifeboat.
They want adequate cushioning on a lifeboat? Kick ’em overboard. What do they think a WATERbed is made from?
I live about 30 minutes southwest of Northampton, it’s actually a nice place to visit and get some food or do a little shopping, but the town council and more than a few of the residents are right out their minds with their liberal hysteria….we have five sanctuary cities in Western Mass I don’t live in any one of them…my town voted for Trump….which is probably why we don’t get much state aid…they know we don’t like the democrats…
I do enjoy tweaking the folks I know who live there, it’s so easy as to be almost unfair.
The police in Northampton are great, their chief is a little odd (I’ll leave it at that) and their high five program was a great idea and the kids had no issue with it….but thanks to some nervous illegals this program comes to a full stop at the moment. Once the feds come in and remove those illegals we can go back to reminding the kids that they police are an asset to the community and not a liability.
Insanity. Stark raving insanity.
Oh, yeah – the operative definition of “liberals”.
Our resident commie will be in later today to pontificate on why this makes sense and we lessers need to just accept it.
Haven’t you learned anything after the past few years?
Cops = Bad Guys
Rioters and Illegal Aliens = Good guys
In Texas, I’m proud to say, Cops still = Good Guys.
Rioters and Illegal Aliens = pop-up targets.
They’re just nervous because parents are afraid the cops will snap handcuffs on their children were they to raise a hand in the “high five” gesture.
Fuckers.
I just heard on the car radio that illegals are missing school and hiding out for fear of deportation. And I like it. Now, if only they would slither back whence they came, all the better.
But, but, but…the schools will get less $$ when students no longer attend. They do not want their attendance/registration numbers to go down – it costs them.
In some states, parents are held accountable for their child’s truancy.
So the meanie cops will be showing up at their house either way.
Muhahahahaha
Don’t leave me hangin’, bro.
When I was in elementary school, the school participated in the DARE drug-prevention program. Arguments can be made for and against the program’s effectiveness in its intended role, as about a half-dozen of the kids I grew up with were potheads by high school, but it had an undeniable positive side effect: Deputy Barrios, the Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to our school for the program, was a great guy who was very good with kids, and after each presentation, he’d spend the next hour on the playground throwing a football for us. We gained trust in him, and by extension the whole Sheriff’s Office. SDSO utilizes “resident deputies” to staff the rural unincorporated eastern San Diego County. The deputies who work out here are also expected to live here among the population they police. Cops are disincentivized to be dicks to people they have to live with off-duty (most of the ones out here are pretty good guys anyway). Combine these two, and while crime certainly still happens, the deputies have a positive relationship with the community in general and most of the people they run into on any given day. The community is a lot more cooperative with “Bob and Dave” than they might otherwise be to “the cops.” Hell, even kids getting into trouble is less of a problem. As an example, when I was seventeen, a series of coincidental and unforeseen events convinced me that it was the best idea to drive down a windy road at speeds upward of 90mph, blowing right through a 25 zone while I was at it. I immediately recognized Deputy Novak when he pulled me over, since I went to school with his daughter. That daughter, incidentally, had just been hospitalized after being rear-ended by some idiot driving like I had just been. I thought, “Oh shit, forget the speeding ticket, he’s just gonna shoot me!” He tore me new ass large enough to pass two lanes of traffic, before hitting me with, “You’re lucky I’m not writing your ass up, and you’re GODDAMN lucky I don’t call your Dad right now!”… Read more »
“Moral of this long story: anything an LE organization can do to build a positive relationship between its officers/deputies and the kids of the community will pay off down the road.”
You are absolutely correct.
worked for us, we knew all the cops in our town growing up, all the way from when Sgt. Murphy ran the three-man force to when Captain Murphy retired in charge of a 40+ cop department… but to us kids who grew up there, we knew Lieutenant Don and the rest. We might have driven too fast or whatever, but serious crime? Not so much. Hell, we KNEW the cops, liked some, disliked some… but damn well didn’t raise our kids on anti-cop propaganda. Not sure people who did would have lived there long…was not that kind of place, and they would have been made to feel unwelcome.
Had a police officer pull a switch blade from my pocket once. The problem–and the lesson–was that I didn’t have a blade in my pocket. That was when I was 15, I believe. Talk about a lesson with staying power. All these years later, I remember it like it was yesterday.
Read somewhere that in Austin, Texas the illegal community was in an uproar because the local law enforcement was supposedly setting up checkpoints with ICE present.
The PD and City Politicos quickly reacted and said such rumors were untrue ( they are a sanctuary city) but the damage is done.
All the little illegals are worried about getting snatched up.
ICE, God bless em’ told the press ” we can not comment on any ongoing operations”..
They are letting the press help them.
I inadvertantly hit the report button. I’m terribly sorry that I have clumsy hands and a touch-screen phone
I want criminals to be scared!
Massholes gotta Masshole.
That is all.
