Witnesses told police the 29-year-old suspect started intimidating a 39-year-old female employee and other customers in the store. Store owner Le Jansen told 24 Hour News 8 the woman was the suspect’s ex-girlfriend.
Police say surveillance video shows the victim was afraid and tried to escape. The suspect “violently” punched her several times and threw her onto the ground, according to officers.
One of the customers left the store and called 911. But before officers arrived, a 43-year-old customer stepped in.
Officers said when the customer tried to intervene, the man attacked him. The customer said the suspect tried to grab his gun – that’s when he shot the attacker twice.
The 29-year-old man was taken to the hospital where he was in critical condition Friday.

The man, described as being in his 20s, entered the deli at 65th Street and Lebanon Avenue about 7:50 p.m. and attempted to rob the 37-year-old owner by announcing he had a gun, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
The owner drew his own gun and fired four shots, striking the would-be robber in the groin. The suspect ran out and collapsed at 66th Street and Lansdowne Avenue, where police found him. Officers took him to Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood.
As it turned out, the suspect was not armed and was pretending to have gun underneath his clothing, Small said.

Threatening, beating on, and holding captive, are all reasons to get shot by a law abiding citizen. 2 instances of threat by intimidation being met by legally armed citizens. In each case, people are safe, and the bad guys are in the hospital, headed for jail.
