Some Republican fools seek to reinstate earmarks
From the pen of Poetrooper:
Here’s a political heads up for those of you who like to give your elected representatives some guidance counseling from time to time. The problem is that a small group of Republican congressmen want to reinstate the “Earmarks” concept wherein lawmakers can sneakily attach funding for pet projects in their districts, the said earmarks, to spending bills, so as to enhance their local popularity. This kind of self-serving promotion, which Republicans wisely eliminated in 2011, is precisely what is wrong with Congress and needs to be nipped in the bud. Here’s the letter I sent to my Senator and Congressman. If you like it, feel free to copy it and send it to your own politicians as your letter.
Some self-serving members of Congress are unwisely trying to reinstate the Earmarks process after all the hard work it has taken the Republican Party to get control of both houses. We are now poised to solidify those gains in the 2018 elections, so this move by these few greedy lawmakers is political insanity. The majority of the voting public absolutely hates the concept of earmarks and the liberal media will use this move as a club to pound Republican candidates in the 2018 campaign if it is passed.
We are confident that you have the common sense and political savvy to recognize this foolish move to reinstate earmarks for the disaster it would prove to be. Please stand firmly against it.

What are the names of the congresscriters trying to reinstate the earmarks?
John Culbertson of Texas
Mike Rogers of Alabama
Mike Kelly of Pennsylvania and
Tom Rooney of Florida.
(There may be others, but these are the ones I know of for sure).
If ending earmarks had actually ended wasteful spending, I might be willing to say this fight is important.
However, it is apparent that work around methods have been invented and now we have no idea at all what money was spent on.
At least with an earmark system, there is some attribution to the actual appropriations.
The good news SCoaMF is out of office, Crooked Hillary isn’t da Prez, and Dimms don’t control Congress. The bad news is Country Club Republicans are in charge.
The other upside with earmarks is that the leadership and use them as leverage to bring the rank and file in line. More things would actually get done on both sides if the leadership had the expectation that some caucus or another wouldn’t dig their heels in when they disagree and want 100% of everything instead of 75%-80% of something.
Like I said recently in other threads, the Republicans still don’t know why they won anymore than the Democrats know why they lost…
The Democrats blame the Russians, and the Republicans thank Trump…
The party that figures it out by 2018 has a good shot at the mid-terms…right now it still looks like a coin flip.
This is an absolute.
+10
Democrats have crap ton of seats they have to protect in ’18 much of it in States Trump carried. GOP has far fewer seats to protect, and predominately in Red States. Unless Trump Presidency has an epic implosion, the GOP should be in a very strong position to add to their majorities.
The R’s couldn’t have hoped for the dems to act like they are. From Berzerkley to NYC and points in between, the dems are providing plenty of video to be used in the lead-up to the ’18 elections.
And that’s just the unwashed masses of asses in the streets, that’s not even counting the idiocy being spouted from Chuck-U Schumer to Nasty Pelousi, and the CBC and Howard Dean.
Crap. Will these idiots ever learn?
I am seriously beginning to doubt it.
Remember when politicians spent money like it was theirs?
Yeah, me neither.
The Reps won the election, but lost seats in both houses.
Trump owes these republican reps nothing and should not hesitate to publicly shame them. This is the same thing they pulled under Bush, ” Now it’s our turn to feed at the public trough”. Was their attitude. Also they’ve had seven years to come up with a replacement for Obamacare. Apparently they have nothing. What have they been doing?
“Also they’ve had seven years to come up with a replacement for Obamacare. Apparently they have nothing. What have they been doing?”. Marking time, mostly. They knew that they had no hope of replacing the abomination known as the (alleged) Affordable Care Act. No matter what they did to it, Obama would have vetoed it, and they had no hope of over-riding the veto.
Now it’s put up or shut up time, and they’re still trying to grasp the idea that they have to do something.
Republicans are only repeating plays taught to them by the lefties in politics. Just take a look around. I make money, lefties take my money and give it to those lazey welfare people. Not real fair, you think? I am just totally pissed about the waste of money going to all these idiots that have figured out how to live off the government while I can not get the degree of VA disability and pension that I deserve. They give me some, like to some lib live off what the VA gives me for what happened to me back in 1969.
This is like giving a known problem alcoholic his liquor because he is more “functional” on the job and in society when he isn’t jittery and approaching delerium tremens from cessation of drink.
