Enrico Rojo, Good Samaritan Marine killed
CBS Los Angeles reports that young Marine Enrico Rojo was on his way to the airport with his fiancé when he found a car that had turned over alongside the roadway. He went to help the driver but he was struck and killed by another driver;
According to California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Matrix traveling west on I-10 had struck a semi-truck while changing lanes. The Matrix rolled and came to rest in traffic. Rojo stopped to render aid to the driver of the Toyota, 22-year-old Crystal Adrianna Martinez.
Meanwhile, a 2017 Hyundai Sonata approached the crash scene, and, as it veered to avoid the Matrix, hit Rojo, CHP reports.
The driver of the Sonata, Alexander Petricevic, stopped and called 911. Firefighters responded to find Rojo being held by his fiancée. He was pronounced dead at scene, CHP said.
His family says that he survived a tour of Afghanistan recently.other

Rest easy, Marine.
“There is no greater love, than to lay down ones life for a friend”! This Marine is resting in the arms of the Lord!!
Possible correction to story: according to video, the driver of the overturned car was arrested for DUI, not the guy who hit PFC Rojo.
Correct, SEA. The description of the sad event signals that it was truly an accident and the fact that the driver #2 also called 9-1-1 supports that.
If you watch the video and don’t swallow hard at the description of Rojo’s fiance’s reaction at the scene and her special request, which was honored, then your heart is stone.
I hope he will be charged with his death. For his wanton disregard is the reason for a selfless Marines death.
The Law does allow for it.
SHE. The DWI was the woman driver Rojo stopped to help. The man who hit him had swerved to avoid a collision and struck Rojo. That man called 9-11 and was not charged with any offense.
Correction She should be charged with his death.
Prayers and thoughts for the young Marine’s family. It’s a tragedy especially during this time of year. My heart goes out to his family.
Rest easy Marine.
My heart aches watching this report. God bless this Marine and his family.
A hero, and a sad loss for all of us.
Stand easy Marine, we have the watch.
Prayers out to his family
Damn. So close to the holidays too. Rest easy little brother.
This reminds me of a former VA patient that I worked with as a VA Volunteer. Without mentioning any personal information, the veteran was helping a lady change a flat tire on the side of the road. A speeding car hit the good Samaritan veteran. I can’t mention his injuries, but he was hospitalized for a year before they transferred him to a nursing home near his parents.
Become a VA Volunteer. It will change you forever and it’s a lot more rewarding then chasing after fake veterans.
I don’t think anyone is downplaying helping out veterans through the VA.
This is not the crowd to try to convince that outing fake veterans is not rewarding.
J Dog…thanks so much for pointing that out. Good job at making a sensible point.
Meanwhile, may another fallen Brother rest in peace. Too often the most selfless acts can have serious repercussions. A young life snuffed out so early like this always reminds me of the Billy Joel hit, and wonder why it is:
“Only The Good Die Young”.
Another advantage of helping out at your local VA Hospital or clinic, cute nurses. If only I was 30-years younger. LOL.
A disadvantage, getting totally stressed out.
My hat is off to our ward nurses. I couldn’t do what they do full-time. It really bothers me to see some of our more severely injured veterans. This past weekend I saluted one of our Hospice residents as the staff wheeled his body out of his room.
Typical weekend.
May God bless you fallen Marine! My prayers are with you and your family.
Damn it. Traffic is always a major hazard on any kind of incident on a road. Too many drivers are idiots not paying attention to what’s in front of them, and they kill or cripple dozens of firefighters and cops each year that way. It’s almost happened to me a few times. Traffic control is a huge deal on incidents like this, and you still get the occasional dipshit who ignores everything and plows right through your scene.
Private Rojo wasn’t worrying about his own safety when he stopped to help this girl. He was stepping up and doing what he could for someone in need. That it cost him his life is beyond tragic. For what little consolation it is, I hope his fiancé remembers that about him.
Prayers and condolences to his loved ones and to the Marine Corps.
TOW. She was there. She saw it happen. She held him in her arms. When it was certain life had escaped him, she asked to be allowed to hold him again. This was permitted and this she did. Yes, she will remember what he did.
Rest easy Marine. You’ve done your part to make this a better world. Rest in Peace.
Rest in Peace, Marine.
Dammit. Stand your watch on Heavens scenes as well as you did here. Semper Fi.
Semper Fi Marine. You are a Humanitarian in every sense of the word. You’re going up to be with big guy now. Ooh Rah!
RIP Marine. Peace be with your family and Fiance.

They used a very old picture of him. Rojo was a SSgt and a Purple Heart recipient.
