Tuesday morning feel good stories

| October 11, 2016

An off-duty police officer in New York City encountered a traffic accident. One of the drivers, 40-year-old Sean Burke, tried to leave the scene. When the officer began foot pursuit, Burke brandished a knife which caused the officer to pull his weapon and fire, missing Burke who was arrested later on by other uniformed officers.

In La Crosse County, Wisconsin, a business owner shot Amy Zielke, 37, when she broke into his auto sales business. Amy has recovered from her injuries and she’s currently resting in the county jail.

66-year-old Army veteran Craig Noggle in Akron, Ohio had confronted his neighbor, Daniel Givens, about speeding through the neighborhood and peeking in neighbors’ windows. Givens decided to force his way into Noggle’s home the other day. They got to a physical altercation when Noggle decided to end it with a gun shot to Givens’ leg. Givens was taken to the hospital and then charged.

3 incidents with the bad people being shot at. In one a cop shot and missed, in the other two legally armed citizens shot and hit the criminals. 911 is no assurance of protection. It is merely an easy number to remember to call and have someone drop by and take a report. .38, .45, 9MM, 12GA, are better numbers to use. You will find them much more effective.

Hmm. Given what I’ve seen in the press concerning how well NYC cops shoot, I’m guessing a lot of “New York’s Finest” may well “pencil whip” their required periodic pistol qualification.

Saves a lot of money on the cost of ammunition that way.

Having coffee with one of the cops in my small town, over the weekend, I told him that I shoot every single day. He replied: “I am lucky if I get to shoot once a year.” What in hell is keeping him from shooting for proficiency?
That is as bad as a pilot not checking his fuel sump for moisture, or not doing a good preflight inspection, checking control cables, or even not knowing to stay the hell on the ground when his aircraft cannot meet fuel minimums.

Once a YEAR?!

Does he not take it upon himself to go to the range on his own?

I get to the range every 2-3 weeks with my daughter.

Whether I am shooting a handgun from 30 feet or a rifle, from 300 feet, I shoot at a 6 inch target, just to keep my mind focused on a “head sized” area. My 5.56 MM can put 10 rounds in a 2 inch circle at 100 yards if I rest the barrel, in a 3 inch circle if I just shoot from the kneeling position. That I shoot daily makes that possible.

In my last 8 years on the job as an officer, our 3d shift captain had the range open and mandated that, unless an officer was tied up on a very serious investigation, they would visit the range and fire the required course of fire.
Prior to his tour as our C.O., I went to the range at least every other week. Never did see a lot of other 3d shifters at the range.

He’s probably one of those fellows who won’t invest a dime of his own money into bettering himself in his chosen profession. I had a similar reaction from a couple of cops up here where I live. They only go to the range when the department pays for their ammunition and time/expenses.

According to them, their “days off” are theirs and cop stuff like going to the range should be done on the clock, and on the department’s dime.

The first time one of them hits a bystander and the city’s insurer(s) and/or the press finds that out, there’ll be hell to pay all around.

NYPD – arguably the worst shots in the world. I’d rather be patrolling with a bunch of 42L’s than a bunch of NYPD officers. Some have argued that it’s the ridiculous trigger pull mandated on issue weapons, but, given recent events and shots fired/hits ratios, there is a problem somewhere.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

Range time allows one to get used to “trigger pull” issues.

More excuses…

Mr Noggle should have aimed higher then the ankle, say, maybe, the groin. Larger target area, easier to hit. (and more likely to bleed out before the police arrive. end of neighborhood problem).

I guess he’ll have to crawl to the window to peek. Peepers are pond scum, often rapists-in-training or actual rapists. Scum
