Border Security “Overemphasized”? Hardly.
Many people claim that the US is wasting money on border security operations. In fact, some go so far as to say that we should have open borders, advocating an utterly ridiculous and nonexistent “right to migrate” – and thus don’t need to control our border at all.
Others say the threat from terrorism is “overemphasized”. In fact, some people openly proclaim both of these (no need for border security and the threat from terrorism being overemphasized) to be true.
Well, “Riddle me this, Batman”: just how many encounters were there in the US with known and suspected terrorists during the one-year period ending 20 July 2016?
If you guessed more than 7,700 – or an average of more than 21 every day – give yourself a gold star.
I’m normally a bit hesitant to use Breitbart as a primary source. But here, the author at Breitbart seems to have gotten access to bona fide documentation of his claims – documentation, as in an official briefing prepared by the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center. The 7,700+ figure comes from the FBI briefing.
No, all of those known/suspected terrorists weren’t radical Islamists. And yes, some of the reports were doubtless false alarms.
But in the one state for which the FBI gave detailed figures, over half were assessed to be Islamic radicals. And even if only 10% of the reports nationwide are accurate, that still means we have somewhere over 700 terrorists running around loose. Recent news (the San Bernardino massacre, the Pulse nightclub shooting, the NYC bombings, and possibly the WA mall shooting) certainly proves the number isn’t zero.
And if you’re wondering how this ties to border security: from looking over the sketchy data available, it certainly appears that a helluva lot of the foreign terrorists currently in the US likely came into the country by crossing the US border illegally. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that preventing such illegal crossings makes getting terrorists into the US significantly more difficult.
The biggest issue with US border security is not that it’s a waste of time. Rather, the biggest problem is that we’re still in denial. We’re still not taking it seriously enough.
And I’m wondering how many more attacks – and dead US citizens – it will take until we do.

Just ask any ordinary German citizen how that open border thing is working out for them.
Or ancient Rome?
If Rome had diverted the resources necessary to try to close the massive scope of its borders it would have collapsed as a society hundreds of years before it did.
This is so much bullshit. Rome succesfully controlled and patrolled its border for the first 3 centuries of the imperial period. 3 friggin centuries. And it collapsed when it didn;t have any longer the political will or the resource to accomplish this vital function.
If Rome hadn’t overtaxed its population, it would have (1) not alienated a large fraction of its subjects, and (2) had the wherewithal to withstand the 4th century barbarian invasions without inviting “friendly” barbarians to settle in the Empire permanently as “allies”.
Actually, one can easily review very scholarly works on Rome. Stephen Dando-Collins, for example has published a series of books on the Legions of Rome, from the early Republic to the late (pre-split) Empire. Great reading, by the way. Nigel Rodgers has another highly-readable history of Rome.
For most of its history, Rome had a very structured approach to “Romanization” of the outlying provinces. Drafting the barbarians into Legions, and holding them in a Roman civilization for 16 (later 20) years, and then granting a very valuable Roman Citizenship to the discharged veterans, plus land -somewhere else besides home-. The veterans of the legions were often more Roman than those city-folk in Rome. even the non-citizen-path auxiliary units supporting the Legions were significantly Romanized.
Migrants inbound either Romanized, or were exterminated as invaders.
When the above fell apart, Rome then became rift with migratory populations of un-assimilated non-Romans, nothing was done to stop the decay, and their fate was sealed.
Centralized economic power turned to grand spending schemes, which bankrupted the treasury. Repeated fratricidal wars of Imperial Succession burned more money. Debasing the currency (repeatedly) was the folly that ultimately wrecked trade, as previously cherished Roman coins became junk. All of that drove conquest into overdrive, while simultaneously ruining any potential gains form conquered or tribute-paying areas.
The debasement of Roman culture, where more and more Romans became parasites versus producers, combined with an ever-increasing (no-work-day) holiday list (over 1/3 of all days of the year in the latter Empire) gutted productivity of those who still worked.
Any of that sound familiar? Hmm. Not much of a student of Rome, eh?
Hmm. Kinda sounds familiar lately too.
May everyone that thinks we don’t need border security and thinks open migration is a good thing, let them be the first and ONLY victims of the illegal a.h.’s coming over the border, maybe we should add, them and their families, might change their minds when “its in their backyard”!
Hell, a number of the 9/11 hijackers were illegal aliens that had overstayed their Student Visas.
Flat false.
Only one had a student visa. The rest had business and tourist visas.
Only two had expired visas.
Actually, at least five of the 9/11 attackers – 25% – had overstayed their visas (or were otherwise in violation of them) and were in the US illegally at the time of the attack:
Hani Hasan Hanjour
Nawaf al-Hamzi
Waleed al-Shehri
Ahmed al-Ghamdi
Satam al-Suqami
Additionally, Mohamed Atta was admitted to the US in spite of the fact that his visa documentation was screwed up; and Khalid al-Mihdhar was placed on the terrorist watch list after his arrival. Other indicators in al-Mindhar’s immigration file should have been huge red flags, and he should also have been refused entry.
Another – Saeed al-Ghamdi – on arrival had a one-way ticket to the US, no return ticket, and $500; he was admitted on a tourist visa anyway. Having only $500 and no return ticket is a huge red flag for someone coming to the USA on a tourist visa.
http://www.fairus.org/issue/identity-and-immigration-status-of-9-11-terrorists
“You know not that of which you speak”, Poodle. As usual.
Actually you said;
“a number of the 9/11 hijackers were illegal aliens that had overstayed their Student Visas”
I guess technically you are correct.
One (1) is a number.
Read Hondo’s post, fart bunny!!
Quoting you:
Flat false.
Only one had a student visa. The rest had business and tourist visas.
Only two had expired visas.
Two expired = two illegals. So much for “flat false”. Arguably, being here to commit mass murder was not their stated visa reasons, so all of them had falsified their visa paperwork, so over-stay or not they were -all- illegals. But by your own words, two were overstay-illegals and thus your “flat false” is .. well … false.
Or was it merely “politically false”? Or are “true” and “false” different in your lexicon?
You set yourself up for this sort of thing. Your vocabulary suggests the capability for research, but your commentary suggests a certain absence of prior research and consideration.
What we are not taking seriously enough is the threat of a viral outbreak. Magnified by the lack of consistent access to affordable medical care and community preventive care. Preventable viruses kill more Americans every single year than have ever died from terrorism. Single viruses kill more Americans than all terrorists attacks. And we have several significant viral threats in our population that are being disastrously underfunded or flat ignored. Often because of political assumptions about who is effected and who should pay for it. Right now more than 200 AMERICANS are being infected with zika every single week in Puerto Rico and estimates are that 25% of the population of Purto Rico will have been infected within a year. Resulting in an unknown number of cases of devastating birth defects. And since Zika has not previously been a threat to the US we really do no know much about it. We do know that it attacks stem cells in infants and brain/neurological structures in infants, children, and adults. So the assumption that it is only really a threat to pregnant women my be utterly false. . We don’t need to take this threat seriously right? We can just put out a travel advisory warning predominantly upper class vacationers to avoid Puerto Rico for now on. Puerto Ricans don’t really belong to the conservative tribe so no reason for conservatives and the GoP to give a damn about them right? Meanwhile conservatives rampage day in and day out and spends hundreds of billions on a security state to prevent a threat that kills less Americans every year on average than bees or toddlers. To conservatives FEAR of OTHERS > Reason. Because viruses are not OTHER people conservatives seem to blow off the threat they pose year after year while tens of thousands of Americans die needlessly. But since the most preventable deaths are disproportional among poor and minority communities conservatives don’t give a damn. And many conservatives have the psychotic assumption that if you die from a virus then somehow it was “God’s will” so not a political issue at… Read more »
Poodle,
You forgot to take your medication today.
Zika
Muslims
Puerto Rico
Viruses
Fear
Seriously, what the fuck?
Puerto Rico was just an example of a national imperative due to a viral threat that we are flat ignoring.
And I was wrong. It is 2000 people a week. Not 200
From ex-OS2’s link:”To respond to this crisis, CDC is operating at its highest level of emergency response.”
Doesn’t sound like we are flat ignoring it.
2,000/week?
We are already assisting the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico with funds and other resources to prevent the spread of zika there. Perhaps the self-governing Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is not using the funds and resources appropriately.
http://www.cdc.gov/zika/geo/united-states.html
1 person dies every 53 minutes in a alcohol related traffic accident, we need to divert billions to prevent this too.
http://www.cdc.gov/motorvehiclesafety/impaired_driving/impaired-drv_factsheet.html
2000 per week?
Prove it, asswipe. Prove it.
Provide documentation or admit that you are lying.
From USA Today: Zika cases hit a high of nearly 8,000 suspected new infections in Brazil in March and have declined steadily since then to fewer than 200 a week.
Note the word ‘DECLINED’. That is VERY specific.
As usual, lars the incredible moron has proved himself to be the biggest blowhard on the soil of the entire continental USA.
Zika, in fact, has a peak rate of infection which he chose to ignored. He does NOT bother with facts. He prefers hysterics.
Hysterics refers to an old-fashioned term for women who reacted to things in a near panic, because hysteria, you know, is a girl thing.
Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that lars the Poodledick, the ignorant and folly-laden twit from UC Berserkly, is actually a GIRL.
Buy Zika kits, Lars, and pass them out. Each kit consists of a condom and bug spray. And screw Puerto Rico.
National imperative? I like it. Sounds like a great name for a racehorse. “And down the stretch they come! It’s a two-horse now as National Imperative and Idontgiveashit show the field the way to the wire! With 70 yards to go, it’s Idontgiveashit pulling away.”
Simply a rather clumsy attempt to change the subject, ex-OS2. Nowhere in the diatribe above does he address the main points in the article; e.g., that US border security is half-assed and insufficient. Nor does he address the fact that that insufficient, half-assed border security has contributed markedly to the terrorist presence in the US.
Hell, I’m guessing he doesn’t even realize he was attempting the classic non sequitur rhetorical technique – that is, bringing up an unrelated and irrelevant point (public health) to change the subject and distract from the original subject at hand. He probably is just pontificating from “on high” again – at least, in his dreams.
Yes, we noticed, Poodle. Frankly, you do it often enough it was predictable – generally when you don’t have a counterargument worth a damn.
Here, do your part Poodle and donate:
http://www.cdcfoundation.org/zika-response
I see it’s now Commander Poodle, now apparently “dick” less.
The issue of disease crossing US borders? Already been discussed here, Poodle.
You obviously didn’t bother to do your homework – again. During the recent West African Ebola Outbreak, we discussed that possibility here in several articles – and the current Administration’s inane approach to keeping ebola out of this country. (BLUF: we simply got lucky.)
We actually already have an ongoing US epidemic of a different disease that was very obviously brought across the southwestern border by illegal immigrants. Ineffectual border control allowed that, too. And it now appears established here as well.
http://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=56207
Effective border security and immigration policies would have likely prevented the latter. It’s also an essential first step in keeping out other diseases not native to this hemisphere or nation. While not sufficient in and of itself, keeping out non-native deadly diseases is impossible without it.
Hondo, all of you, please visit my list of fatal diseases below.
All these imbeciles who are anti-immunization are imperiling the rest of us. Poliomyelitis is a REAL threat, and can be spread from one person to another.
Sure, but the context of all you conversation is how to stop Muslims and Syrians and Mexicans and any other “unwanted” immigrant population based on ethnicity or religion.
You do not say we need to divert resources to better medical screening of applicants and immigrants and community health in immigrant communities in the US.
I would enthusiastically agree with you if we were talking about more access to medical checkups for travelers and immigrants and more stringent medical screening for visa applicants to the US.
We digitally strip search people, including Americans and check their shoes because we are afraid that anyone could be a terrorist but nobody is wearing surgical masks on aircraft despite the fact that viruses transmitted during travel in the tight quarters of an aircraft kill far more than terrorist act year on average.
(and yes I know air is circulated into the cabin from outside but but the cabin itself serves as a vector opportunity.).
I am not saying we SHOULD do these things. I am saying that we are not even discussing these things even though they are empirically a substantially greater threat to American lives and arguably even an existential threat to the stability of our nation.
Which convinces me that the vast majority of the “terrorist” rhetoric on the right is irrational fear mongering or motivated by bigotry and tribal identity bullshit.
Conservatives have always focused on people not like them being a threat to them. It is how you see the fucking world.
Meanwhile actual existential threats like poor quality access to medical care in many demographics in the US and climate change conservatives dismiss and “liberal issues”.
You are a fucking moron Lars. Did you not eat dirt when you were young?
He ate a lot of paste.
I’m thinking paint chips.
“Meanwhile actual existential threats like poor quality access to medical care in many demographics in the US and climate change conservatives dismiss and “liberal issues”.”
What the hell is THAT supposed to be??? It isn’t a complete sentence. It means nothing. You provide no backup for your claims, and worse yet, your entire post is riddled with incomplete sentences, hyperbole and innuendo, and you can’t argue for shit.
Try harder, Poodle. You are rapidly reverting to the Crashing Bore status you’ve occupied for such a long time.
Es- I think that “poor quality access to medical care” means that the front door to the clinic needs to be replaced.
That, or the clinic has moved to another neighborhood.
“…tribal identity bullshit.” uh-oh. Beware the arrow, Lars.
No tribes. No nations. We are one world. We are all world citizens. Here, have a Coke.
I wouldn’t want it to get around that Commissar spoke ill of Native Americans.
Wow.
Quote: “actual existential threats like poor quality access to medical care in many demographics in the US and climate change”
Proven mass-murder systems like Socialism and Islamic Jihad are not “existential threats”, compared to “poor quality access” to the extensive medical system here that probably exceeds elsewhere on 75% of Planet Earth? Climate change? Climate always changes. At one point, earth was at just below the temperature of molten rock (Hadean eon 4-4.6 Bya past) . At another point, it was frozen snowball with about 10 degrees of unfrozen latitude at the equator (snowball Earth glacial period > 650 Mya). The recent glacial oscillations are ongoing, and indicate rather erratic cooling and warming trends within the overall glacial/melt cycle.
Or did the early ice ages end due to SUVs driven by proto-hominids?
Dude, I was raised by someone further to the left than even you, who filled my head with all that proggy nonsense. I have spent a lifetime researching for myself, and refuting the proggy bunk.
Even by proggy standards, your efforts are …. lame. You are going to have to dial it way up, with, you know, factual citations that stand up to being fact-checked, before the crowd here buys even a two-bit sample.
11Bmailclerk, what makes it more difficult is that the more the Poodle posts, the more incoherent he becomes. I’m still trying to figure out what that sentence fragment means, but I’m giving up. He just doesn’t make any sense. All he does is throw collective nouns and pronouns together and add a period at the end, with no connection to anything being discussed.
Oh great.
It’s Herr Kommissar.
Again.
As if we hadn’t heard enough incoherent, hysterical shrieking already today…
Falco is delighted by your remembering his song. He’s disgusted by the context, though.
“Dreh’ dich nicht um, oh-oh-oh, der Kommissar geht um…”
Geez. Oh, hell, here ya go:
In Deutsch, ja? (smile)
Auf Deutsch?
Vielen Dank!
Bitte.
Dude, your a special kind of crazy. Republicans want a clean bill passed just for the virus, democrats are trying to tag a bunch of other crap to it. If you’ve ever stepped out of the US and gone to where these terrorist come from, you’d understand how dangerous these terrorists are that wish to harm us for no other reason except we’re American and we worship God in a different way. I’ll admit you have balls posting that madness here, but your seriously misguided.
He’s been to the CENTCOM AOR. Problem is, he dropped a sh!tpot full of dollars getting
brainwashed“educated” at Berkeley, so he feels obligated to “prove” he’s “superior” vial “correcting” all of us “Neanderthals” – or so he thinks. In truth, he’s the poster boy for how badly US higher education has become both politicized and educationally ineffective. He just won’t face the fact that he’s not the smartest person in the room any more.
If he ever truly was.
Bullshit. Republicans are using it as an opportunity to attach defunding planned parenthood in order to pay for the the bill and trying to broadly deregulate pesticides for corporate points and not public good.
The clean bill was the democrat version.
But I think both sides of congress is full of shitbags so trying to claim it is democrats or republicans completely misses my point. I do not think EITHER party represents the interests of the American people.
My point it the POLITICAL RHETORIC. The right is constantly crying about the threat of immigrants and Muslims while flat ignoring or doing nothing about empirically substantially greater threats.
It is the rhetoric that is harming our country and empowering these police state authoritarians.
Democrats are generally voting for these police state power bills as well.
However, the prevailing narrative on the left is that we need to scale back the police state and make it more accountable.
Not EMPOWER it further like the right is crying to do.
BULLSHIT! BULLSHIT! BULLSHIT!
The Democrats blocked the bill because it does not earmark any taxpayer funds for Planned Parenthood’s abortion clinics, you asshole.
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/438690/zika-funding-planned-parenthood-senate-democrats-block-virus-research-funding-bill
You are so full of bovine defecatory byproducts, you couldn’t find your way out with a map, a compass, and a shovel.
If I EVER run into your mother, I’m going to ask her why the hell she didn’t just say ‘N-O, NO!’ just that one time.
Oh, yeah – did your parents have any children that lived???
“However, the prevailing narrative on the left is that we need to scale back the police state and make it more accountable.”
What the fuck are you smoking Lars? The left embraces a police state. I noticed how you said “left” and “we” in the same sentence.
Why don’t you take in a few Syrian refugees, you can teach them to crochet.
By the way, fuck planned parenthood.
Don’t fear the commies!
Did someone say, “Don’t Fear the Commie”? (smile)
Spanish flu! (20 million to 50 million deaths)
Swine flu! 203,000 deaths
Bird flu! 60% of people infected with the virus died from their illness.
Bubonic plague! 25 million deaths
Smallpox! 300 million to 500 million deaths in the 20th century alone, up to 25 million deaths in 1967
Tuberculosis! In 2014, 9.6 million people fell ill with TB and 1.5 million died from the disease.
Polio! 1952, during the worst recorded epidemic, 3,145 people, including 1,873 children, in the United States died from polio.
Measles! Approximately 114 900 people died from measles in 2014.
Diphtheria! In the 1920s, there were between 100,000 and 200,000 cases of diphtheria each year with 13,000–15,000 deaths.
Typhoid fever! In 2013 it resulted in about 161,000 deaths. Caused by Salmonella typhi.
Mumps! Can give you encephalitis, which can be fatal; also causes sterility in adult males.
Whooping cough! In 2014, whooping cough made about 30,000 people sick. Before the DTaP shot was given routinely to infants, about 8,000 people in the United States died each year from whooping cough. If you get it because you weren’t vaccinated, you can turn blue from oxygen deprivation.
Chicken pox! Chickenpox can be serious especially for babies, pregnant women, adolescents, adults, and people with weakened immune systems.
It can cause the following:
dehydration
pneumonia
bleeding problems
brain infection or inflammation
bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues in children including Group A streptococcal infections
blood stream infections (sepsis)
toxic shock syndrome
bone infections
joint infections
death
Also, if you get it and survive, the Varicella virus goes dormant and later on, you get shingles from it.
So far, Zika hasn’t killed anyone, but in South Carolina, an aerial spraying program aimed at wiping out mosquitoes that carry it has killed something on the order of 14,000,000 honeybees.
Well,that was fun!
Oh, I almost forgot: the Plague that calls itself ISIL has so far killed somewhere between 260,000 and 325,000 people in barely a two-year span, destroyed entire economies, and made millions of enemies in the process.
Well, the latter is occasionally true. But not universally.
True, but I was speaking in general terms.
Disclaimer: my information came mostly from CDC reports and WHO, with a small amount from Wiki articles.
I intentionally left out the Hanta fever virus, Lyme disease transmitted by deer ticks, and ebola fever.
You forgot the rockin’ pneumonia and the boogie-woogie flu which can cause loss of concentration, excessive alcohol consumtion, wild gyrations of the hips and has been known to lead to a population increase ~ 9 months or so after infection.
Then there’s the scourge of Disco Fever, which nearly wiped out whole sections of Manhattan in that dark age known as the 1970’s.
Hey; what about all of that Dance Fever that Deney Terrio was spreading around in the late ’70s and early ’80s? It was downright lethal.
Those were some really bad times. And some really bad memories.
Not to mention bad clothing styles…oh the horror!
Bad hair! Really, really bad hair! Enough hair spray to drown an Asian carp.
If I remember correctly, Disco Fever also caused brain damage in a lot of people as well.
“If I remember correctly, Disco Fever also caused brain damage in a lot of people as well.” True, but it only in those who stared at the sparkling ball too long. Oh, the humanity.
Ah, but it was the “Disco Sucks” reaction that screwed with the National Pastime. (smile)
You are supporting my point.
I was only mentioning zika because it is the current example of a virus largely not being dealt with effectively.
But viral threats overall is a substantial threat.
And Zika has killed people you twit. It frequently kills infants and the elderly. How the hell do you not know that?
Oh, dear! Another panic attack hyperbolic statement with no backup.
People usually don’t get sick enough to go to the hospital, and they very rarely die of Zika. One in five people infected by the disease will develop symptoms, which can include fever, rash, joint pain, and red eyes. The CDC says symptoms are mild—it’s probably not going to kill you.
There you go: PROBABLY NOT GOING TO KILL YOU.
Next time you decide to make such statements that let us peer into your panic attack syndrome mentality, THINK before you click that ‘POST’ button.
Again, YOU ARE FULL OF UTTER AND INCONTROVERTIBLE BULLSHIT, Poodle. Now go back to your corner and count your blessings that you aren’t in the same room with any of us.
WE are all a lot smarter than you are. The birds outside my windows are smarter than you are. In fact, my cat Punkin Squawkypants is smarter than you are.
I’d throw the term ‘horse’s ass’ at you, but I grew up on the back of a horse and don’t feel like insulting my equine friends.
“And Zika has killed people you twit. It frequently kills infants….”
So does Meth.
‘frequently’ is used in place of ‘one recorded’. That’s the dickless Poddle’s hyperbolic panic attack syndrome at work.
I think we should take up a collection to get him spayed or something.
He can just head on over to Planned Parenthood, whether he chooses to self-identify as a man or woman, I am sure they can hook him up.
Yes, but you see, he’ll have to pay a fee to PP, because none of their services are free. And they don’t actually provide services, per se. They only refer people.
https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-nassau-county/patient-resources/fees-payment-options
So I have to ask why are they labeling themselves as a non-profit and getting government funding when indeed, they are clearly profiting from what they do?
Poodle,
Lots of people are dying from just sitting. Should we abandon securing our borders to help protect folks from this epidemic?
http://www.foxnews.com/health/2016/09/26/433k-people-die-every-year-because-sat-for-too-long.html
Ex-PH2, let’s not forget about the drug-resistant strains of TB as well as the outbreaks among illegal aliens. Polio was present in A-stan when I was there as well as many other diseases that have been nearly eradicated in the civilized world via vaccination. One of the things that immigrants were checked for on Ellis Island was communicable diseases, something the left no longer wants done because according to them, the USA is the reason the rest of the world suffers a a we owe everyone everything.
Oh, I’m not forgetting that, API. I sent an e-mail off to the CDC last year about the smallpox vax, which I got as a toddler and again in boot camp. Their response was that immunity from the first vax fades after 5 to 7 years and with the second vax, it takes longer to fade, but it still fades.
Isn’t that comforting? That, and polio on the rise — it’s just enough to make you want to kick the people who said it was lifetime immunity, but they did that because they didn’t know any better at that time.
I was vaccinated against Smallpox as a kid and once again before my tour in A-stan. I got vaccinated all over again when I first enlisted and once again before going to the ME. When I got that Smallpox vaccination we were told that we would not need another in the next ten years.
It’s not exactly a confidence builder, is it?
Thank you Lars for providing a iron-clad reason for secure borders. Back in the day at good old Ellis Island, if you were sick, you got sent back – something many people either forgot or didn’t know.
Border/Immigration controls keep out more than just the bad guys…
That is not the most cost effective way or even the most effective way in practical reality to deal with the issue.
There is much more effective ways to deal with the threat of viruses than building fucking walls and whining about Muslims.
Well, you might have something there, Poodle. The first we should do is have you neutered, you and others like you. That prevents the spread of your defective genetic material.
The next thing we can do is export you and all your cronies to Earth #2, which is currently in orbit around a red dwarf star somewhere near Proxima Centauri.
Meantime, you’d do the world a favor if you stuck dry beans up your nose and sew your mouth shut.
There are. But developing vaccines and effective treatments for viral diseases takes years to decades – we still don’t have one for the common cold, remember? In the interim, preventing entry (or quarantining applicants for entry, which we indeed did at Ellis Island a century ago) of those with diseases with which we can’t currently cope is the only available strategy.
What do you advocate – let everyone in NQA and without restrictions? Because that means we let in any pathogens that happen to be “hitching a ride” as well.
“What do you advocate – let everyone in NQA and without restrictions? Because that means we let in any pathogens that happen to be “hitching a ride” as well.”
That is exactly what he means.
Let’s let Poodle speak for himself on that issue.
Well, Poodle? Are you advocating free and open borders? Open admission? If so, how do you propose to control the diseases that inevitably come along with that policy?
And please: don’t say “more money for healthcare”. That doesn’t work worth a damn with communicable diseases for which (1) there’s no effective treatment beyond palliative care, and (2) there’s no effective vaccine.
Considering that the zika virus, which is moving north from South America, is a disease that originated in Uganda, anyone who says ‘open borders are okay by me’ is nuts. After all, the West Nile virus is carried by mosquitoes, too, including the anopheles and house mosquitoes, and was brought here on cargo ships. So much for ‘open borders’.
MEXICO built a wall on its Southern Border with Guatemala, does that make THEM racist and xenophobic? Was Ancient China “racist” for building its Great Wall? Part of me pities you and the rest laughs its ass off at your rants! Many illegal aliens are engaged in criminal activities and many has been the time that a multiply deported illegal alien has committed murder, look at recent events, FOOL!
Hey, I can see Lars waking and finding a stranger or two in his home. He would not treat them as intruders. He would not consider the potential harm they might do. He would offer them food, money, drinks, and just go and grab more bedding. In the morning he would buy them cots and offer to drive them to the clinic for a medical evaluation. He would advise them on how to acquire driver’s licenses and enroll in school. I am absolutely sure that’s what he’d do.
Or maybe Lars would not be so loving and understanding. Maybe Lars would say, “Get the fuck out of MY house now!” Maybe Lars would brandish a letter opener or lamp and repeat his order. The next day, he might reinforce his door, change his locks, and buy a gun.
Private medical efforts, profit and non-profit, do far, far more to develop vaccines than the government. They tend to fund the connected, not the likely potentials.
And before you “no it doesn’t” be aware that there are people on this board in the business, with real world experience and facts that will likely bury your Berkley Belief Blivvet.
As to the “clean bill” argument, the Republican requirement is that the money go to those who -diagnose- and -treat- Zika. That to me seems pretty reasonable for “Zika funding”. PP does neither. It also doesn’t operate in Puerto Rico. One of their affiliates does in their stead, and they do -not- diagnose or treat Zika.
There ya go again, 11B-mailclerk – trying to use logic and reason on a Prog. Haven’t you learned yet that that’s virtually always futile?
“…a threat that kills less Americans every year on average than bees or toddlers.”
Get a swarm of toddlers on your ass, and you just know the little bastards are going to ruin your whole day.
I can’t find any videos of toddlers swarming anyone. Trying to run away from puppies, yes, but swarming people, not so much.
I did find a video that shows that toddlers are clearly infectious critters.
https://youtu.be/RP4abiHdQpc
Wow, YOU’RE RIGHT, Ex-PH2, they are VERY contagious!!!
Toddlers? TODDLERS?
Now he’s asserting that toddlers are killing Americans every year.
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
You couldn’t possibly make up this kind of shit!
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
I guess that I’d better watch my six the next time that I’m around my buddy’s two year-old. I wanna make sure that I live to see another sunrise.
Don’tcha just love it?
“But since the most preventable deaths are disproportional among poor and minority communities conservatives don’t give a damn.”
Yeah. What Lars said. It’s your fault. It’s my fault. The cities and states that are solidly blue, or nearly so, are virtual nirvanas, aren’t they? Um.
So let’s not worry about the borders keeping terrorists out, since they really are no threat to us (even though THEY have declared WAR on US), lets secure the borders to keep the viruses out.
Basically you argue in favor of what you’re trying to argue against, we need to we your borders.
Nice effort in trying to re-route the conversation though.
Damn autocorrect . Second to last line should have said secure our borders
Go into your googlefu or whatever thingy and turn off the autocorrect function.
I hate to admit it, but at present, this damn phone is smarter than I am.
BUT at least I will admit it, unlike some folks.
Maybe if I get to Northern Ill, I can come by and while you dig deep into the intricacies of this damn smart phone, I can keep busy with some of the recipes you are always discussing?
I’m having difficulty with the concept that software in one of those idiot electronic toys cannot understand plain English and allow the use of the word ‘secure’, but instead, changes it to something else. I’d go complain to the company that sold that piece of crap to you and get them to fix it.
I have two of those old-fashioned flip phone thingies. Neither of them makes spelling mistakes like that.
“As you guys relentlessly call upon the state to do something about Muslims….” I believe that we call for is that Asshole in the White House and all of those who bang their heads on the underside of his desk, as those that wish that could, acknowledge that the common factor among terrorists is Islam. Work place violence and “incidents” and the like fall short of capturing the issue. Islam teaches violence as Allah’s will for which there is afterlife reward. I’ll say this. Islam may not be altogether violent but when terrorism occurs, the suspects are narrowed down in a hurry.
Note to Founding Fathers and Framers: 86 that business about inalienable rights. Lars says that “Our constitutional rights are not actually inalienable.”
Cool story Lars, but it needs more dragons and shit…
And more unicorns, magic sparkle dust, fairy princesses, and a squad of leprechauns carrying pots of gold that you can only get access to if you’re one of the “less fortunate” as defined by the Left.
TL;DR.
Do a little research on your vaunted Canadian healthcare system.
Remember a few years ago, that whole SARS thing? Believe it or not, their system made the outbreak there WORSE.

HUH? Socialized medicine is a failure? YOU gonna make him shit his britches yet again!!!
I’d like to see the stats on the number of murders, rapes, and assaults that have been committed by the illegal criminal aliens that seem to move back and forth across our “SECURED” borders.
If you did, Roger, your blood pressure spike would cause a stroke. If we had a Republican President, the media would be asking him/her when the borders would be secured so our citizens would not have to fear being raped/murdered/robbed/etc. by the scum. But, no, Ofuzzballs is a Democrat and, of course, he feels our pain and stuff, so all is well. When/If Trump is elected, it will be a 24/7 frontal assault by the media.
Geese and pelicans have a right to migrate.
Muslims and radicals don’t.
I don’t see migrating birds or caribou carrying bombs or driving trucks loaded with explosives or ganging up with guns at shopping malls.
Only humans do stupid things like that.
I would engage Lars regarding the natural rights business but I’m afraid his polly sci professor didn’t prepare students to be contradicted. No need. They all sup from the same bucket and drink from the same trough.
Hondo, those dumb-asses that advocate for people right to migrate, miss a couple of points -I think.
1. It’s not longer the 19th century or earlier.
2. They need to buy a dictionary and read the difference between migrate and immigrate. We don’t have a problem with migrants that eventually move on to someplace else. We do have a problem with people that illegally immigrate to this country and suck up benefits that we have to pay for and they don’t. They also bring diseases with them, thanks for making that point Lars. Many of our sworn enemies use the same borders to enter this country in order to carry out their evil deeds (even though terrorism is of no threat to us, per Lars).
So:
migrant=come and then go
Immigrant=come, nothing else follows.
I wonder if there are locks on the doors at Berkley??? If so, WHY? (Hypocrite much????)
Oh come now people, let them migrate at will, from the south of Mexico to the north of Mexico, then back again, at will of course. See a nice liberal answer to the problem.
The United States of America is a sovereign nation. Our government derives its powers from The People, meaning citizens. That’s the way it used to work, anyway, back when our government exercised its duty to enforce immigration laws. Now it’s a matter of “feelings” when the question to be answered is not, “golly, what do those folks do then?” but “What is in our national interest?” We want more scientists? Fine. We want skilled craftsman? Fine. We want those who sneak across our border, thereby making their first act in this country an illegal one? Not fine. And while I’m at it, fuck that bilingual and multilingual shit, too.
Thank you. Said the way a real American citizen should. Since when did the host country conform to the guests. So legal immigrants welcome, now learn English or go away.
