Arnold Palmer passes
Eggs sends us the sad news that Arnold Palmer, the first professional golfer to earn a million dollars at the sport, has passed at the age of 87. According to CNN “With his dominance in golf and distinctive style, Palmer helped turn the sport from a country club pursuit to one that became accessible to the masses.”
Of course, like most of his generation, he was a veteran. Palmer spent the Korean War years in the Coast Guard from 1950-1953. In 1954, he won the U.S. Amateur Championship.

One of the true gentlemen of the sport. There may have been a handful of golfers who were arguably better, but none were better loved by the public. RIP.
R.I.P., Arnie. I hear there’s a really great golf game going on somewhere with the Choir Invisible.
I learned to hate gold from when I was a 13-year-old caddy. Still, I would watch Arnie and Nicklaus back way back when. Lee Trevino was my favorite. That crew was a far cry from the sex addict Tiger Woods and that oaf that used to hit the ball 400 yds before drugs and booze took over. Arnold Palmer was one of the greats.
Gold? Golf.
Rest in peace Mr. Palmer.
RIP
Great one
You will be missed
Thank you Arnold for your service. There are no green fees or sand traps where you now play. RIP and blessings.
God needed someone to help with a foursome…
Rest in Peace, Arnold Palmer….
Man made some good assed Tea & Lemonaid.
Your name will always be remembered.
Arni made Second Class Yeoman while serving with Lt. Edward Ard,USCG. Later, then Capt. Ard related to me that YN2 Palmer was in his division for a year or so, but that he had never met him. He was always looking for Palmer for one thing or another, but Arni was always on the Golf course with the District Commander. In the year Arni worked for Lt. Ard the Admiral’s handicap dropped by three strokes.
RIP Yeoman Palmer. Semper Paratus.
RIP, Arnie. I’ll be hoisting your favorite beverage in honor of ya.
Golf Digest’s write-up on him is way better than CNN’s (this is my shocked face).

My mom was a lifetime fan and in the 1990s he took time out of what was obviously a very busy schedule on a very busy day to make her golfing ‘life’, and while doing so he came across as a guy who didn’t have a care in the world or anything more important to pay attention to. That’s probably because he really felt that way, it’s who he was.
Thanks again Mr. Palmer.
