Mustard gas fired at US troops

| September 21, 2016

CNN reports that US troops were on the receiving end of a chemical agent attack at Qayyara air base in Iraq Tuesday, supposedly the attack came from ISIS.

No US troops were hurt or have displayed symptoms of exposure to mustard agent.

One official said the agent had “low purity” and was “poorly weaponized.” A second official called it “ineffective.”

A US defense official said troops had gone out to look at the ordnance after it landed. Based on seeing what they thought was a suspect substance, two field tests were conducted.

The first test was positive and the second was negative, the official said. The substance is now being sent to a lab for further examination.

Yeah, well, any other commander would take the gloves off, but not with this administration. We’ll just wait until the thugs can get it weaponized properly and cause some casualties until John Kerry sends ISIS a strongly worded letter.

Wait, would THIS be crossing that “red line” we heard so much about?

NotBuyingIt

Never mind, that only applied to Assad. ISIS gets a pass.

68W58

The only “red line” is the one in Obama’s drawers from where he crapped blood when he heard about this and realized an actual chemical attack would require something from him other than empty posturing.

Ex-PH2

H.M. Tomlinson has a description of WWI gassed soldiers in ‘Waiting For Daylight’.

Mustard is a blistering agent. The gas training had better ramp up yesterday.

Slick Goodlin

GAS! GAS! GAS!
(Might stir some memories from Army Basic)

OldManchu

Ahhhhh yes. And from a rotation to NTC as well.

sj

But a keen observer would note when the OC’s were surreptitiously exiting the AO and join them.

11B-Mailclerk

Actually, that was pronounced

GMPH! GMPH! GMPH!

Otherwise it might sound like:

Gas! GasHHHAAACKKK AUGHHHH HHHACK!!!! MothHHHAAACKK! FuhhhhaaAAAK!!!!

Mask first, -then- signal.

Yef

But, let’s worry about Americanz buying too many gunz.
And climate change is worthz than ISIZ.

Club Manager

Would these be the same WMD that magically disappeared and all made fun of Bush about?

Geetwillickers

I think Sec Horseface Kerry’s main concern will be the original manufacturer of the mustard used to make the weapon… gotta keep the stock price high after all.

(see what I did there?)

Atkron

I sees it…I wonder if they have weaponized Ketchup yet.

Graybeard

Well, the version they put in MREs – or is that the Tabasco?

Thomas Huxton

looks like someone laid down a yellow line and called it red

OldManchu

It’s all ketchup and mustard in the end smothered over a large hot “weenie”. Have a bite?!

Sapper3307

Is that a WMD in Iraq?

PhukYoCouch

Goddammit!!!!! There are no WMDs in IRAQ! Every joke and posture about Bush will unravel if we admit to this horsef@ckery. Besides, it’s only a byline on CNN, so it can’t be important! [snickers abound]

The volatile oil is derived from mustard seeds. It was once used as a medicinal agent in mustard plasters to get rid of pneumonia and bad colds.

Mustard is one of the most popular condiments in the world. Poupon is sharp as a tack. Deutsch Kuche is spicy. French’s Yellow Mustard (American) is tangy.

Do you have any Grey Poupon?

Mick

But of course.

Ex-PH2

In case anyone is interested in the real uses for mustard:

Cheese Eater McBlobfish

That’s child’s play. I cleared out a room with my gas after I downed a 7 pound block of cheese. Those that didn’t get out in time ended up being ambulanced to the hospital. I ate the cheese first before cutting it.

POTUS (Pussy Opts Taking Unlimited Shit) will talk and talk and talk. I am telling you, seen too many like him in this life. He is a pussy, he always has been and doesn’t know any other way.

Currahee John

If I’m not mistaken, that would be the first chemical attack by hostile forces in a combat zone against U.S. troops since WWI.

Sapper3307

Blister agent mine USMC Desert Storm.

19D2OR4-Smitty

There were also several against US Forces at Camp Taji during OIF. Mostly Chlorine based, but still.

Skippy

Well no big surprise here.. it looks like the JV team is getting ready to go Pro….

A Proud Infidel®™

Mustard Gas now, what’s next? If I remember correctly, there were quantities of VX Nerve Agent that were unaccounted for..

The Stranger

Once upon a time, we used to have a policy in place in the event that someone used chemical weapons against our troops….what was that again?

Oh yeah, I remember….

NUKE ‘EM!

Too bad we don’t have a real C-in-C.

OldManchu

We have a P-in-C now.

Ex-PH2

That was a test. That was only a test.

If it was a real attack, the emergency signal will sound and you will receive instructions.

Graybeard

…after POTUS gets through with his round of golf and he gets around to it.

GDContractor

Qayyara air base in Iraq, also known as Q West, also known as FOB Endurance. I was there shortly before we handed it over to our Iraqi allies. There was a major oil pipeline nearby. I’m sure it’s been blown to hell. Sad.

B Woodman

I knew that (Army) NBC training would come in handy eventually.

GAS! GAS! GAS! (hands on shoulders)

11B-Mailclerk

Ahem…

-Mask- first, then call “Gas!” three times while making the hand/arm signal.

A Proud Infidel®™

I remember inprocessing to 2nd ID in Korea at “The Turtle Farm” there in Camp Casey when I was a wet-behind-the-ears “Joe” fresh out of OSUT and upon exiting their compound one would see a metal arch above the gate saying “YOU ARE NOW PART OF THE WORLD’S MOST
POWERFUL DIVISION” referring to the Tactical Nukes they told us we had during our reception briefings. I’m sure we still have a stash of them, what we need is someone in high echelons with the balls to use them on those godforsaken diaper-headed goat-molesting fleabags!

19D2OR4-Smitty

Tactical nukes were all removed from the inventory. Even if we still had them stockpiled somewhere (and I think they had to be destroyed vis a vis one of the START treaties), we no longer have the delivery systems and their triggers would be too degraded to work.

A Proud Infidel®™

DAMMIT… Fuckin’ cryin’ shame we DON’T have ’em anymore, GODDAMN do-gooders and their mudda-fuckin flower child campaigns…

SFC D

I was in Korea ’88-’90, News reports were consistently “The US military has no tactical nukes in the ROK” until one day we saw “All US tactical nukes have been removed from the ROK”. A serious WTF moment.

A Proud Infidel®™

I was there 92-93 and we SAID that the Tactical Nukes were withdrawn in an attempt to kiss up to the Kim Dynasty (Old Fuck Kim at the time, but have they ever even remotely given a fuck about anything other than their grip on power).

Just An Old Dog

I wonder exactly how many chemical shells were fired?
ISIS, while not the JV team that some make it out to be, is not exactly up to snuff on keeping it’s munitions sorted.
It could be a case of them rat-fucking a stockpile of ammo previously rat-fucked by Hussein’s old regime and mixing in a chem shell with regular ordnance.

The Other Whitey

I doubt they’re terribly worried about it.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

My first guess is that the ammo is obviously part of a captured stockpile and ISIS fired the round(s) probably not knowing that it was a chemical round. Now that a big deal has been made, they will probably pay more attention to the markings and use future ammo in a more strategic manner thus being more effective.

As Former President Bush once said – do you miss me yet???

Just An Old Dog

Pretty much what I was thinking. ISIS, as far as I know has little to no arms or munitions factories. They really don’t need them, as there is a shit ton of both left behind by the Iraqi Army and aquired from Syria as well.
It would take a professional and well trained munitions unit a long time to sort through all the shit hey have piled up.
They are doing well enough to just match calibers and hope the shit dont blow up in their face.

Jeffro

My understanding is this past week in Mosul a factory was bombed into oblivion because it was believed to be creating chemical weapons…

http://rudaw.net/english/middleeast/iraq/130920161

11B-mailclerk

A pesticide plant, or even an oil refinery, can produce effective chemical weapons.

Plenty of both in the area currently controlled by the Caliphate.

Sparks

I go with Curtis Lemay’s remedy. Bomb them back into the stone age.

The Stranger

Sparks,
They WANT to live in the Stone Age…

Graybeard

They already are in the stone age.
They’re happy there – it’s their safe space.

The Other Whitey

Bombs-Away LeMay was kinda like a junkyard attack dog. Usually you’d want to keep him penned up out of sight, but in dire circumstances, you’d let him out to lay waste to whatever threatened the homestead.

Devtun

Yeah, LeMay really fell out of favor w/ both JFK & LBJ, and got put in the doghouse. Quietly retired in ’65 after 37 yrs & 14 of those yrs as a 4 star general.

SFC D

Bomb the place to rubble.
Then bomb it till the rubble bounces.

Graybeard

Maybe we ought to shell them with pork-grease?

Red6

Unleash the hogs of war?

Graybeard

😀 😀 😀 good one!

AW1Ed

“Cry ‘Havoc,’ and let slip the hogs of war!”

AW1Ed

With apologies to Bill Shakespeare.

*grin*

Graybeard

+15 Interwebz for the play, another +5 each for act and scene.

Who sez we ain’t cultured?

Graybeard

That’ll be x10 if you can cite the Star Trek series installment wherein the phrase appears, and who said it.

Ex-PH2

General Chang.

The Undiscovered Country.

That was too easy.

Ex-PH2

I might add that it was the movie in which Spock said ‘Only Nixon can go to China.’

Graybeard

Huh, I was remembering Kahn in “The Wrath of Kahn” and had forgotten The Undiscovered Country w/Gen. Chang.

Ex-PH2

Julius Caesar Act III|Scene 1
spoken by Antony:
And Caesar’s spirit, ranging for revenge,
With Ate by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch’s voice
Cry ‘Havoc,’ and let slip the dogs of war….

Graybeard

Shoulda known you’d nail it.

Ex-PH2

Here’s an update from the UK’s Daily Telegraph. Apparently, the chemical plant where the gas is produced is very near a sulfur mine.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/21/us-tests-for-mustard-agent-after-rocket-attack-near-iraq-base/

So, make sure you have bleach on hand to neutralize it, and as Mr. Stern used to say ‘Don’t assume anything!’

11B-Mailclerk

Isn’t it just a highly coincidental thing that the president was rumored to be thinking about announcing a “no first use of nukes” policy?

I mean, it is not like fear of US stated “retaliate with nukes” policy was providing a wet blanket on hotheaded use of chemical weapons, right? Fear of a stern letter from the UN actually kept the gas in the bottle, right?
