Trump’s Trap

| July 28, 2016

Even you Trump naysayers here at TAH, and there are plenty of you, have to take some enjoyment from the way the guy sticks it to the liberal media. He did it again yesterday with a press conference which sucked all the media oxygen out of the Democrat convention and sucked in all the liberal media with his appeal to Russia to publicly release the 30,000 emails deleted by Hillary Clinton. The Trump campaign set the trap and all those brilliant journalists from the left wing media pounced right into it, with cries of treason against Trump and outrage that he had violated national security.

But wait…weren’t we assured by Hillary herself that those 30,000 emails were harmless, dealing with Chelsea’s wedding plans, Hillary’s yoga and dinner recipes? So why is it now that Hillary’s media lapdogs, after years of going along with her dismissal of those emails as harmless personal fluff, are suddenly fearful that there’s some content in there that may constitute real national security matters? So which way is it you yapping poodles, harmless recipes or national security?

Trump laid the trap and those media fools never saw it coming. If you believe that the enemy of your enemy is your friend, you have to admire Trump, even if only grudgingly, for sticking it to the liberal media, who are no friends to our military and bitterly disliked by many here at TAH.

While everyone seems to be concentrating on the emails deleted and scrubbed by Clinton’s people there is a bigger problem for her if, as is likely, Russia hacked her server. The Russians got in long before the scandal broke. They will have all 30,000 her people deleted, plus ALL the emails she deleted after reading! God alone (and Putin)knows what is in those. My guess is even Hillery, for once in her lying life, really can’t remember either. The next President of the United States..Vladimir Putin.

Veritas Omnia Vincit

He certainly understands the media, perhaps far better than they understand themselves. He’s been using the media rather masterfully for quite some time during this election cycle. Just ask 16 former candidates how savvy Trump can be when using the media for his own nefarious purposes…

desert

What the hell is nefarious about bashing the lying a.h. media?

Graybeard

He does know how to yank their chains. Which is a sweet karma to the nth power for those who like to yank chains.

Graybeard

The media has played the cards so often – race card, victim card, etc. – it’s kinda nice to see a Trump card played on them.

Welp…looks like this is one of those contests where we have to choose between two barrels of shit based on which one stinks the least.

Granted, Trump is an asshole. That said, I think we can trust Trump the Chump to act ethically. He’s clever enough to enrich himself without breaking any laws.

Now, if it was Trump vs Sanders, I’d ‘Feel The Bern’ and vote for Sanders. But as it stands, with Shrillary…

David

“to act consistently in his own interest” – there, it’s fixed.

Better to have someone whose interests you can predict than someone whose motivations are unknown.

Mason

All politicians are self-serving. I think it’s in the job description as a minimum requirement.

It’s not unknown, we know what her agenda is:

Pinky: Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?
Brain: The same thing we do every night, Pinky – try to take over the world!

Pinto Nag

My real concern with Sanders is gun control. I’ve been told that he doesn’t support gun control, but he’s quoted as saying that he believes we should own guns for hunting and target shooting. You know…like Germany… The fact is, I don’t trust him with the 2A.

USMCMSgt (Ret)

Neither do I, which is why I’m about to buy some more stock in a few companies. It’s just a matter of time before there’s another run on firearms and ammo.

F@ckYoCouch

Gotta love that some of the companies are moving operations down south to states that respect 2A. Democrats whine about losing jobs in those states, yet it is thier own fault. Thier chess game must suck, only being able to see the moves immediately in front of them. Dolts.

thebesig

Then they flock south to escape the shitty conditions they helped put in place through their consistently voting democrat. Do they learn from their mistakes? No. They come down to the south and make the exact same mistake they did up north, keep voting democrat, insuring that the shitty conditions that they escaped from pops up in the south. Far too many are too brain dead to realize that democrat policies are to the economy what laxatives are to diarrhea. There’s this thing called “human nature” that reacts to different policies a different way, whether that’s good or bad.

desert

yeh you probably would vote for a communist wouldn’t you?

B Woodman

That’s gotta leave a bruise.

Fjardeson

Mr. Putin, have a bottle of vodka on me. Beautiful.

42A Combat Clerk

I will never vote for Trump, but the way he gets the granny panties of all the quasi-intellectual dooshnuggets I know does bring me joy.

The entertainment value of this election should be epic.

Frankie Cee "In the clear"

How do you find Hillary to be a better choice? At the onset of the campaign, I supported Dr. Carson. When he went down for the count, I sat by, saying that I would now vote for the opponent most likely to be able to defeat the Democrat candidate. Today that leaves only Trump. I think that his ethics are satisfactory, and that he does have a fair chance to beat the Democrat machine, cemetery votes and all.

Hondo

Just remember: refusing to choose is itself a choice.

And also remember this: that particular choice has the same effect as voting for the candidate you detest the most.

Mick

Shack!

I have a couple of acquaintances who insist that that they’re going to write in “Mickey Mouse” and “Homer Simpson” on their ballots in an attempt to demonstrate their rejection of both Clinton and Trump as candidates.

Neither of them can be brought to understand that failing to vote AGAINST Clinton (whom they both despise) via a vote for Trump is actually the same as adding a vote to Clinton’s total.

It’s insanely frustrating.

26Limabeans

Write in votes are never counted except in close local elections.
The person they are making a statement to is in the mirror. Nobody else will see it nor care.

UpNorth

I have to differ, in researching an election back in the 2008, and another in 2012, I found write-in votes counted. The names of those who were wrote in weren’t published, but the totals were.
But, I can see how it would be difficult for clerks in some places, what with the dead and illegals voting, over and over.

SFC D

I wrote myself in for judge in 2008. The candidate was unopposed and I wouldn’t vote for him if he ran for sewage inspector.

42A Combat Clerk

Human Resources Clerk actually, and no my vote for Gary Johnson is a vote for Gary Johnson I don’t play the my team versus your team bullshit.

If the Republicans wanted my vote they should have put up a better candidate.

Only if my state ends up going to Hildabeast, which it won’t.

If enough voters go third party then the two parties, that are shifting more to the left each day, will have to take notice and realize that a lot of Americans still care about The Constitution, and want their elected officials to operate within its confines.

Off Soapbox.

Hey! Johnson said that if elected he will not smoke dope in the WH.

42A Combat Clerk

I guess I’m confused, I thought that the right meant States rights and personal liberty?

Does it actually mean that a very strong central government enforces an agenda you like better than the other team?

42A Combat Clerk

“It scares me who actually votes. CLUELESS”

In your mind only. A no-vote or a vote for anyone but Trump is a vote for Hillary. You know it. Do what you want.

Is Gary Johnson even on the ballot in all the States?

2/17 Air Cav

He’s a doper. He waers tee shirts w/ peace symbols on them. After years of marriage, he filed for separation from his wife, then filed for divorce, and then she died. Not to worry. He got himself a new honey.

Jesse Ventura?!?!?!? Never heard of her!

Twist

He wants to cut the Military budget so much that the older veterans will look back at the Carter years as the good ole days.

Chad

I agree 42A… that’s R vs D noise. I voted for Johnson last POTUS election for many reasons. In CA, the electoral college is in the bag for the Dems and voting for a 3rd party might get those magical/elusive voter percentages for a 3rd party to get into debates, campaign funding, etc.

I realize that a true Libertarian is dead since WW2 but when I hear Progressive and Evangelical I hear the same damn thing…”We’re gonna tell you how to behave”. Well screw you, my parents already instilled that. They keep pandering to these factions and that keeps me an independent. But…things are a little different this time around for me.

1st and foremost Hillary is a walking character flaw. Also, Trump marginalized evangelicals in the GOP while the Dems are scratching their heads how to get more progressives. Trump has bucked many of the turn-offs of mine with the GOP and I admire how he has gamed the liberal media into his bidding. Voting Trump…but my ballot will never have all R’s or all D’s checked on it

W2

42A, there’s a lot of people who would say a vote for Johnson is a vote for clinton. As long as you do vote, it’s nobody’s business who you vote for. Seems like the theme above from some folks is “I won’t tell you who to vote for, but vote for trump because if you don’t it’s a vote for clinton.”. Screw that. I personally won’t say who I am going to vote for, or write in. I will say people should mind their own business. Whoever wins, wins.

Pinto Nag

I vote candidate, not party, and I don’t ever remember voting a straight ticket when I had the choice to vote my conscience. If there is someone out there that you believe in, vote for them. That’s your right, and your voice being heard, and your vote being counted. The EC skews that a bit, but I still believe it’s true. Whoever is going to win is going to win, but we have the right, each and every one of us, to cast our vote as we please.

To add to that, I keep getting told that if I vote for Johnson, I’m electing Donald Trump for President.

Both sides are scrambling for votes and want to scare you into doing what’s best for them. I’m a big advocate for doing what you feel is right.

Donald Trump Press Conference 7/27/16

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGHWou0h1kk
Trump starts at 30:30

The Washington Post published a transcript, and their “annotations.” I picked one annotation at random, and was less than impressed. They have well and truly stepped in it. They think that publishing a reaction by the political opposition “proves” a statement is false.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/07/27/donald-trumps-falsehood-laden-press-conference-annotated/#comments

The Washington Post is as effective at handling Donald Trump as they were at handling the Swift Boat Veterans.

Ex-PH2

Excuse me – falsehood-laden press conference? Except for those highlighted quips, everything else Trump said was essentially accurate, so how was it loaded with falsehoods, again?

I do wish he’d do one thing: provide backup instead of just running off at the mouth. Documentation helps.

Ex-PH2

The self-congratulatory stuff is all over the news this afternoon, including the Big Hug w/bodaprez and shrillary. As much as they literally hate each other, the hypocrisy just oozes out of the video like something out of a swamp.

‘nobody better qualified, not Bill – no, not even me’??? If that’s the case, then why the effing Hell wasn’t she put up in the last election? Once this is over, the animosity will come rolling right back into view. But that’s beside the point.

I’ve said this before and I will continue to say it: that bitch is not in this to get herself into the Oval Office. She’s only in it to get that slimeball she’s married to back into the seat. He’ll be pulling the strings, the Man Behind the Curtain, for as long as she sits in that chair.

Count on it.

68W58

“…nobody better qualified…”

From the “party of Jefferson”, no less.

Bill R.

I’m curious as to how treason can be tossed about freely when the hacking occurred several years ago and no one knew about it at the time. These idiots speak as if Trump is asking them to hack her illegal server now, in the present. As far as I, and the public know, that server was shut down and confiscated long ago. So how does a joke made two days ago translate to treason?

Ex-PH2

It’s simple, Bill R. They tend to have early onset short-term memory loss, so anything that happened further back than last week does not mean anything to them.

In fact, that serious investigation and slithering over the real issues by Comey a few weeks ago have been entirely forgotten by them, so when or if you bring it up with any of them, they have no idea what you’re talking about.

May have something to do with smoking dope or something else that results in brain tissue shrinkage – that, and the fact that they’re mostly robots who do what they’re told without question – well, it all adds up to just not giving a damn, because they don’t have to.

Reddevil

That’s not really the issue. Every intelligent person listening understands that it was an off the cuff, sarcastic comment meant to be humorous. Trump was not intentionally traitorous here; he made an ill timed bad joke, one that would have been hilarious coming out of Jimmy Fallon or even Steve Colbert.

Except that it came out of the mouth of a candidate forPresident of the United States. Given that context, it was an incredibly stupid thing for Trump to say. As president, his off the cuff comments will be taken as policy by our allies and enemies alike. Speeches, statements, and interview comments from a head of state or senior official are taken as statements of policy.

Is Trump any of the above? No. He is, however, undergoing essentially the longest and most detailed, invasive job interview ever devised to be one. Will he suddenly learn to control his ego and mouth when he becomes president?

Then again, maybe it was slick political gamesmanship from a shrewd manipulator. I think that’s even worse.

Love him, hate him. It was a stupid thing to say and you all know it.

HMCS(FMF) ret.

I’m thinking that Trump just loves fucking with the Media… and will be doing that all the way to election day, when he’s not slamming the Donks.

Ex-PH2

Off the cuff remarks?

I do remember once JFK press conference in which a woman reporter stood up and asked him when he was going to do something for women.

His response was “I thought I already had.” There’s a B&W video of it some place. And I doubt seriously that JFK would get elected today unless he could play the cards as close as Trump is doing.

Reddevil

Stupid for Trump the candidate? No. As always he is brilliant , even genius with the media.

That’s the problem. Trump is manipulating the media at the expense of the dignity of the dignity of the office he seeks. I don’t think he can stop himself, and I can see him making similar comments as Chief Executive that alienate our allies and encourage our enemies

Casey

Remember when Reagan said, in public, that he had just outlawed the Soviet Union and the bombing would start in a few minutes?

Zero Ponsdorf

PT: I agree with your primary points. And I WILL be voting.

I dunno what sort of CIC Trump might make, but I DO know we need one with pragmatic goals. Otherwise the time is approaching when it won’t matter.

Some weeks ago I opted for the ABC approach (Anybody But Clinton). There were others I could have easily supported, but – it is what it is.

Aside: Some of the more paranoid voices in my head wonder if Trump will make it to November?

UpNorth

^^^^ Like ^^^^

Reddevil

Pragmatic goals? Like a wall that stretches the entire length of the Mexican border? Aside from the cost, the wall won’t work.

I grew up on that border, a wall won’t stop illegal immigration- this ain’t Game of Thrones. What about the Canadian border? Do you think a wall in the south will stop a determined terrorist.

I agree that there is a very real possibility that Trump won’t make it to November. There are so many ways he could self destruct- racist tirade, mocking veterans, the handicapped, religious minorities. I mean, the topic of this thread is an incredibly inappropriate Trump statement. It can only get worse

Reddevil

A obstacle not observed is ineffective- and there is no way to observe it. We actually do have walls in many areas of the border, and in those places people simple dig under climb over, or sneak through the ports of entry.

If it’s meant to be symbolic, it will end up being a symbol of hubris, ignorance, and, once it starts falling apart, poor maintenance.

I grew up on the border in South Texas. People that cross illegally (as opposed to those that cross legally but stay past their visa or work permit) endure a lot of hardships to do so. they will gladly find a boat, travel to Canada, or lock themselves in a shipping container to get to the US.

That said, I wasn’t aware that Trump had changed his platform to make the wall a symbolic gesture, mthough. It might be cheaper and more effective to post so,e strongly worded signs.

SFC D

C’mon down to Naco AZ. Or Douglas AZ. I’ll give you a guided tour of how well an observed wall actually works. Is it perfect? No, and it will never be 100% effective, anyone that tells you it is or will be is probably trying to sell you a surveillance system. Walls aren’t effective or practical in some areas either. It always comes down to boots on the ground. Now, if we could just get the current administration to stop releasing the UDA’s that are caught and funding sanctuary cities…

2/17 Air Cav

The libertarians do seem to have more fun at their conventions:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d45x4OpMoow

2/17 Air Cav

Look, Johnson applauded oBaMa’s co-opting legislative authority by using executive orders as he has to effect immigration policy. That’s all I needed to learn about this “libertarian” to know he’s full of shit. But he truly likes his dope and that garners support from a certain segment of the population. And if it sounds like I’m piling on this turd Gary Johnson, I am. Hey, he wants to be treated like a Big Leaguer so I’ll treat him like others treat Trump and the Bitch of Benghazi.

Perry Gaskill

PT, a logical fallacy in the quoted statement is that you can’t support “unrestricted” movement across borders, and also support “control over the entry into our country of foreign nationals who pose a credible threat to security, health or property.” By definition, they are mutually exclusive.

My own view is that Trump being painted with a racist brush is a construct brought about by open-border supporters such as Jorge Ramos at Univision, which has gained traction on global social media. What Trump is actually talking about is the issue of sovereignty.

Every advanced society provides some form of social safety net. Our own, for example, has made a point of not allowing widows and orphans to starve in the street. The extent to which you can provide a social safety net is directly related to control of immigration. You can either have a strong social safety net, or open borders. You can’t have both.

Keep telling yourself that trumpledumple is so smart. Pooty poot will do some of that KGB shit on trumple and he won’t know whether he’s coming or going. Art of the deal my balls.

Cyber O-3E

Well since he already did “some of that KGB shit” on genius Hillary, I guess Trump already has a leg up…

Doubtful. trump is a dumbass blowhard. Anybody who is proud of the fact they don’t read is a dumbass. Obviously though, clinton isn’t any smarter. Pooty poot is going to snatch that small dog that lives on trump’s head right off, make him cry like a little girl, and I am going to laugh my balls off.

W2

trump is the person who thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room. People who feel that way generally are not even close to being as smart as they think they are. There is nothing coy, or crafty, or even country smart about him. He just a big, loudmouth yankee who likes to try to bully people with threats of lawsuits and such. That shit might work in NYC., but a dude that is smart and cunning, like Pooty poot, is going to run circles around the man who doesn’t read. Sorry, I ain’t buying what you’re selling. I’ve been on the earth long enough to know when somebody is full of shit. trump is full of shit.

2/17 Air Cav

I know that’s a popular sentiment but it’s one with which I disagree. If one doesn’t educate oneself regarding candidates and issues and cannot make an informed decision, the voting becomes an end in itself. Similarly, if one does familiarize himself with candidates and issues and determines that ho candidate and no issue (e.g., bond issue) is worthy of his vote, that is an intelligent and meaningful decision. The right to vote and the exercise of other of our Constitutional rights as US citizens are not mandatory exercises. Or are we to require people to purchase and possess firearms because, all else aside, they have a right to do so?

Hondo

Personally, I think the late Robert A. Heinlein got it right.

“If you are part of a society that votes, then do so. There may be no candidates and no measures you want to vote for . . . but there are certain to be ones you want to vote against. In case of doubt, vote against. By this rule you will rarely go wrong.”

2/17 Air Cav

By voting against someone or something, then there must be some degree of knowledge of the candidate or issue. And that is in accord with my take on voting. My point is that those who don’t know enough to like or dislike a candidate should stay away from the polls or at least not act on their inclination to vote on those candidates and issues that are on a ballot but about which the voter knows nothing.

Ex-PH2

The difference between ‘have to’ and ‘does matter’ is the USSR’s 100% turnout for one candidate. Vote, or else.
Granted, the right to do something does not mean you are required to exercise it. But I think you’d agree that in an election season like this, not exercising the right because you just don’t like any of the candidates can lead to something far worse than a corrupt candidate taking office.

2/17 Air Cav

I would prefer that those who would vote for Wide Load stay home and that those who dislike her go ahead and vote for her opponent. I do not believe in congratulating someone for voting.

Thunderstixx

The only thing I can say is that I have a very good feeling about Trump.
Say what you want, it was so funny to see him get the whole spectrum of talking heads tut-tutting and scolding him for doing something that he, and his son too, are so good at.
Trump Jr’s response to weenie-boi was even better !!!
All I can say at this point is that it’s about damn time someone took them on at their own level of mud…
The only person that really understood it was Brit Hume and he was laughing about it all the way home !!!

Casey

Another factor in favor of “hold my nose and vote for Trump”: Supreme Court picks. With Hillary we know what we’ll get. She even publicly entertained the idea of nominating Obama.

‘Nuff said.

Joe

You Trump supporters seem to have some pretty malleable standards – he goes and insults the late Captain Humayun Khan, killed in action, and his parents, and apparently that’s just fine with you guys. And that’s aside from the fact Trump erratic nature, fragile narcissistic personality, and complete and total lack of experience. Unreal…..

2/17 Air Cav

Well, your nearly lucid today. That’s great. I know these days are few and far between. I’m sorry that Captain Humayun Khan’s parents are being used as patsies by the DNC. I know that the captain’s mother has nothing to say about the matter, being a slavish Muslim and all. And his father is the male counterpart of Cindy Sheehan. Trump said nothing that a reasonable America would find insulting.

2/17 Air Cav

It puts my smile on my face to know that it bothers you so much, Joe. Just out of curiosity, what time did you come-to this afternoon?

Joe

It’s just that it’s morbidly fascinating to watch you guys compromise your morality and do logical backflips in an attempt to defend Trump.

2/17 Air Cav

Joe is right. Let us recall the great American Muslim patriots who fought at Valley Forge, withstood the bombardment at Fort McHenry, stood fast and fought valiantly at Gettysburg, rode with Teddy R at San Juan Hill, rallied the Rainbow Division during the Champagne-Marne offensive, and flew B-17s in Europe and fighters in the Pacific. Here are their names:

Joe

We’re not talking about your “great American Muslim patriots who fought at Valley Forge”, we’re talking about one US soldier who died defending his country. More of your logical back flips and contortions, trying to defend the indefensible.

2/17 Air Cav

Fought at Valley Forge? Not so much. I shoild have said suffered at Valley Forge.
