Keep ’em, Canada

| July 23, 2016

There are still US deserters from the Iraq War in Canada. They’ve all been ordered out, but they keep going back to court. Now they’re begging Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to intervene, since he’s such a hippie creampuff.

Immigration Minister John McCallum referred a request for comment Friday to the Immigration Ministry, which said it would “not be appropriate to speculate on future actions the government may take.”

New Democrat immigration critic Jenny Kwan noted that war resister Rodney Watson, who has a Canadian-born son, has spent almost seven years in church sanctuary in Vancouver. Conscientious objectors must have a pathway to citizenship in Canada, Kwan said.

“Let the families get on with their lives,” she said.

Michelle Robidoux, spokesperson for the War Resisters Support Campaign, said the U.K. inquiry into the Iraq war concluded that the “war was based on lies” and would lead to catastrophe. U.S. soldiers who sought refuge in Canada because they could not in good conscience fight in Iraq, she said, should be welcome to stay.

Fine keep the little weasels – we have enough problems here. If they don’t want to be Americans and they don’t want to pay for dishonoring their commitment to the country, screw ’em. We don’t need them. They weren’t forced to serve in uniform, they all volunteered and then bailed on their promise. At this point, they aren’t making a coherent point – they’re just trying to avoid jail. the stank-ass Canadian hippies deserve to pay for their needs and wants. Maybe they can be buried in cemetery just for cowards, too.

Court-martial in absentia first sounds like a plan to me. Then let Canada keep the cowardly a-holes.

2/17 Air Cav

Yeah, it sounds good but although a court-martial held without the defendant present is authorized by the UCMJ, a procedural prerequisite to trial is that an arraignment be held. The arraignment requires the presence of the accused to receive notice of charges and to enter a plea. No arraignment=No trial in absentia.

Thunderstixx

Lock ’em up for about a year or two and make examples of them.

Grimmy

Desertion during time of war.

Hang ’em. Make it messy and it’ll cut down on cowards joining up.

Silver lining on a golden cloud, that.

HMC Ret

I believe there is a blanket pardon on the horizon.

Claw

I heard they all went to Canada for tennis ball therapy and sticky bums after receiving movement orders, got disoriented when their GPS went on the fritz and couldn’t find their way back to the border crossing.

Any truth to that rumor?

Hack Stone

That damn metric system will fuck you every time. They will realize they screwed themselves when they have to watch Canadian Foitball League games.

Dave Hardin

These clowns were not drafted against their will. They joined the military and enjoyed the benefit of it until it was time to actually do what they had been trained to do.

If they do a FOIA on these people I am sure they will find the majority were not even in combat arms MOS’s.

They are no longer Americans, I could care less what happens to them, so long as my dime is not used.

The entire free world lives their lives under the protection of American military power. Its odd how the loudest voices seem to always come from the cheap seats.

Phuk em.

“So long as it is mot on my dime….pretty much sums it up for a lot of us. If they are being subsidized by Canadian tax payers, it’s not too difficult to see why some want them sent back home.
Regarding them, some where I read, “There is no limit to uselessness”. Likely none will ever become productive and serve a meaningful existence to society.

Don’t worry, my bet is Obama will pull a Mr Peanut and drop a pardon for all of them his last day in office, as well as Messed up Manning and Bowe Bergdahl, so all this legal wrangling will be for nothing. I wonder if the pardon will unintentionally cover the folks from Abu Ghraib?

Akpual

Dammit, dammit, dammit. You beat me to the peanut thing.

Ex-PH2

There is no draft. They made a choice and regretted it, but instead of waiting it out, they ran away like the cowards they are.

Fuck them. Fuck them very much.

Ncat

I propose we build ANOTHER wall. Not to keep decent Canadians out, just these a-holes.

Oh, and certain potential guests from the Middle East.

2/17 Air Cav

Can we at least keep the French Canadians out, please?

Akpual

Amen and I am embarrassed to say my great grandfather was french Canadian.

r hill

sorry, it’s too late. i’m french Canadian, and a vietnam vet. i served in the 199th light inf bde, 69-70, down in 3 corps AO. got my US citizenship later on. came here legally with a green card, so it was fairly easy. i wonder if any of carter’s cowards are still hiding there…

I believe that there has been amnesty granted to these bums after every war. What probably should happen is that they serve out the rest of their enlistment, (
including all this bad time spent up in Canada) in a federal prison.

OWB

Has wholesale amnesty ever been granted while the war remained ongoing? (Or before we threw the white flag, or somehow declared hostilities over.)

A gentleman I met who was in the Canadian military said that there was thought of telling these trained “objectors” that they understood they didn’t want to fight in Iraq, so they would just send them to wear those blue UN helmets or send them to Afghanistan with the Canadians. However, the Canadian military revolted at that idea.

blackflag79

If Canada decides to send them back I won’t bat an eye. The case of Rodney Watson, though… that’s a bit of a toughie. But ultimately Canada has the right to kick them out if they see fit.

I wonder how they are able to stay up there for so long, though. I’ve been looking into what is required to legitimately live and work in another country and it does not appear to be an easy process.

USAF_Pride

Because following the rules is never the easy way

blackflag79

And effort requires so much effort.

Luddite4change

Public opinion in Canada isn’t with these guys/gals. They volunteered and booked on their commitment. With Canadians having been fighting the war with us (to include in Iraq/ Syria), they can face the music.

Not sure why the case of Watson is difficult? He happens to have a son with an entitlement to US and Canadian citizenship and can live with either parent in either country.

blackflag79

Ah, okay. I wasn’t entirely clear on Watson.

David

What the Canadians do is their own business. Just don’t let ’em back in the US. They made their beds, let ’em lie in ’em.

Dustoff

Keep’em and make them wear headsets blasting Justin Beiber tunes 24/7

11BVet

Notice how these deserters never go to Mexico…

A Proud Infidel®™

I say let Canada keep ’em. IMHO they would just become welfare flunkies once they reinfected American soil!

Twist

Threaten Canada that if they don’t keep them then we will send Justin Beiber back

2/17 Air Cav

“Threaten Canada that if they don’t keep them then we will send Justin Beiber back.” I had no idea the little fuck is a Canadian. Dafuq is he doing here? Why wasn’t his visa revoked. The little twit has been arrested how many times, three, four? I read that he has interest in becoming an America citizen. That’s my good news of the day.

2/17 Air Cav

Damn. I read that he has NO interest in becoming an America citizen.

2/17 Air Cav

Damn. Damn. American citizen. Gonna quit now.

blackflag79

Internetting wouldn’t be half the fun it is without typos.

Skippy

Shoot them !!!!!!!!

A proud Canadian

As a proud Canadian, I would like to personally show these fucktards the door.
I sure as hell don’t want my hard earned tax dollars paying them to live high on the hog.
But alas as I have no faith in prime minister good hair, I’m afraid that they might just get their wish…
And that thought is enough to make me sick..

A Proud Infidel®™

Maybe the rest of Canada could force all of them to stay in Quebec? ?

Sapper3307

Can deport Justen Bieber? plz

Data Dawg DV X

OK, they are refugees in Canada for now. If they ever step foot in the US and are caught, not only will they be court martialed for desertion, they can also be charged with evading prosecution and other offenses both under the UCMJ and under Title 18 US Code. And even if they renounce US citizenship over this, if they ever return to the US for anything, they can still be charged, until the Statute of Limitations runs out. They can also be permanently banned from the US even if not charged in US courts.

A Proud Infidel®™

Every time I got interviewed for an OTR Truck Driving job I had to answer if I had ever been convicted of a felony in the US because Canada denies entry to those convicted. I had heard that was because of the draft-dodging fleabags darting up there during the Vietnam years and most Canadians didn’t want them either!

When I was checking into MCB Quantico in 2003, there was what must have been a 55yr old PVT/PFC working in PMO doing registration and DoD vehicle decals. Being the salty dog Navy Chief Recon knuckle dragger, I said “Aren’t you a little old to be a storm trooper?” That got him laughing, and he informed me that he was drafted in 72 and went UA/Deserting to Central America. After a couple decades, he came back and turned himself in. Basically, the USMC Court Martialed him, sentenced him to some brig time and stuck him at Quantico to await his Admin Sep.

Not exactly related to this case, I know – but it was something a mid-80s enlistee ever thought about. Funny now to be discussing it with modern era quitters.
