Weekend Open Thread
So, if you’re wondering about the remodel, the contractor said that we can move into the new bedroom on Monday – yes, it’s been going on for the last seven weeks. Those of you who have been here wouldn’t recognize the place now.
The pictures this week are brought to you by Toasty Coastie and Frankie, respectively. I’m out for the day, have a ball.

Trying to catch up this year, because I think I didn’t report in last year at this time.
At the Mule Days that were held in Ralston, Wyoming over the Father’s Day weekend, the stats from the mule sale were:
57 mules sold for over $5K each.
Top sale was for A lot a Lena at 23K.
Miss Kitty Wells and Betsy sold for 21K each.
Low seller was Buckwheat Midge at $1,500.00.
There were eight no sales and the majority of those sold were Mollies.
I’ll try to do better for next year and not skip out on the reporting, cause I know all of you out there wait with breathless anticipation for the mule sales report.
Oh, and the three man team that won the Wild Cow Milking contest had two of the grandsons on it from a couple of my old pards from back there. So a well earned BZ goes out to them.
End of report. (Over)
Aside from packing, what are mule used for now? The Amish use draft horses, usually Belgians, but I don’t recall anyone using mules for that like they used to.
By ‘that’, I meant plowing and harvesting. Sorry, clicked ‘submit’ too soon.
You would really be surprised at all the different uses for a mule these days, other than agricultural labor.
Saddle animal for sight seeing excursions comes to mind as just one example.
General Crook rode mules:
He considered mules much superior to horses.
Yup! And here’s a pair of breeding mules for you, city boy!
You and Scooby must be bored?
Hawaii has officially become the Tyrant Big Brother now.

The Navy owns a lot of guns. Is Hawaii gonna put the Navy in that database??
I just read a rather long PDF, the result of an FOIA request, that puts Dell Comics to shame with its humor. All about a rather unkempt guy, with a scruffy beard, who rides a bicycle. This is comedy, real comedy.
Another Sunday morning I can imagine the False Commander Phil Monkress (CEO of All-Points Logistics) wakes to much needed breakfast of floppers and mancakes.
What a stain on the collective ass of society.
I bet his kids are proud.
I was hoping to hear from JD Pendry today, just to learn that he and his are okay. But there’s nothing from him. In case you don’t know, West Va (generally, central WV) was inundated by torrential downpours late last week and flooding was violent, sudden, and widespread. At least 24 souls were lost to the waters, and more heavy rain is predicted to hit again tonight and tomorrow. I don’t watch TV news and it is a weekend, so I don’t know the extent of the coverage by media. But many homes were lost, just swept right off their foundations. Roads are gone. Some who were driving the other night in what they thought was just another heavy rain found out that this was anything but just another storm. Across the state, today, churches and community organizations are collecting money, water, canned food, and clothing for the affected counties. So, JD, check in when you can, please.
I saw that flooding. It may be a trickle in the hills, but it pools together as it flows downward and becomes a torrent.
I, too, hope that he is OK.
