James Wesley Howell; armed man in California

| June 14, 2016

James Wesley Howell

You probably heard that another man was arrested in California in the wake of the news of the shooting in Orlando. James Wesley Howell was in possession of some guns (possibly explosives) and told police that he was headed to the “Pride” parade in Los Angeles. He’s from Indiana and the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel says that he’s on parole after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor intimidation charge. He was supposed to surrender his weapons to authorities as part of his plea agreement. He also didn’t have permission to leave Indiana;

Twice within four days last October he was accused of pulling a gun and making threats. The first incident involved Howell’s then-boyfriend and the second a neighbor, identified in police records as Jeremy Hebert.

Howell was charged with intimidation in the case involving Hebert, a conviction that led to his yearlong probation and weapons prohibition.

Hebert remembered Howell being “hot-headed” but said he had no interest in pursuing an intimidation charge against him.

“I wasn’t going to ruin his life for it,” Hebert said, adding that he was fine as long as Howell didn’t return to the neighborhood.

Prosecutors apparently pursued the case without Hebert.

Grace Logsdon, Howell’s former roommate, said Howell owned five guns and liked to spend time at a shooting range. He enjoyed teaching Logsdon about guns, she said, but he had a bad temper.

During one trip to a gun range, she said Howell told her: “I wish I could kill a lot of people.”

It’s not known if James Wesley Howell had intended to do harm in California, but it does illustrate the problem with gun regulations in this country. Prosecutors and law enforcement aren’t interested in enforcing the laws that are in place, so really what good is it going to do to write more laws that only burden legal gun owners. When the new laws are written and they don’t work because law enforcement is not going to enforce them, sooner or later, the case will be made to confiscate all guns – and the only people who will comply are the innocent.

A criminal not obeying the law? I’m shocked – SHoCKED, o you hear?

Razorback Cop

Believe me – front line law enforcement would, and do, readily lock up this kind of individual. Soft-handed courts and liberal prosecutors, often blaming prison overcrowding, hand out plea deals and lenient sentences every day. The bad guys are back out before officers can complete their paperwork, or do it seems sometimes. In my career, I’ve arrested the same violent felons over and over, only to see them be released on probation (that doesn’t get enforced), or plea out to piddley little charges they do no time for.

I know what you’re talking about. I had a case of a 16 year old who was caught in a stolen car. He was in possession of a 9mm pistol, which he’d attempted to file the serial number off of. The crime scene tech brought the number up, turns out the pistol was stolen in a home invasion, which he also confessed to.
I went through the process of getting him waived by juvenile court, to get him tried as an adult. Not an easy task in a case that does not involve a homicide. Faced with multiple felonies, including firearm felonies, his lawyer cut him a deal. He pleaded guilty to Home Invasion and Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number.
The prosecutor was perfectly happy with the plea, after all, that’s a win. The defense was happy, he got paid and didn’t have to bother with going to trial. The judge was happy, so happy he gave the yute probation!!! Taught him a lesson, he did.
It was explained that probation was the best “we” could hope for, after all the defendant didn’t have a record. Technically true, he did have a lengthy juvenile record, but that couldn’t be introduced, because it was a plea, not a trial.

Aaaaand ten years from now, the little gangbanger will be doing 25 to life for some horrible crime that could have been prevented if only someone had thrown him in jail for that little home invasion stunt.

Navy Chief, Navy Pride!

hehehe….you said “yute!”

I suppose you’re going to give us a lesson on how to properly prepare grits and teach us the difference between positrac and an open differential next?

Hondo

Grits are easy. Just read and follow the directions on the box. (smile)

SFC D

No self respecting southerner would ever use instant grits

Hondo

Real grits come in a box too – a round box. And for the benefit of Yankees, that box even has instructions regarding how to prepare them properly.

Hint for all of “northern persuasion”: George Carlin’s riff below ain’t correct (though it’s hilarious – starts at 6:25):

The Other Whitey

That was a very clear, lucid, intelligent, well-thought-out objection.

Really? Uh, thank you, Judge!

Overruled!

And don’t forget Marisa Tomei’s ticking biological clock!

Had the same problem in SC back in the 90’s when I was an LEO. Plea deals, probation, etc. We had a 17 year old who stabbed a cop (almost killed him) and she got 1-6 youthful offender. Meaning she only had to do four months, and she got credit for time served, before parole eligibility. She basically walked free after the sentencing hearing. Oh and the youthful offender cleared her record as if she was a juvenile. Part of the reason I eventually resigned.

The man quoted in the article claiming to be Howell’s former boyfriend has to be lying. According to Taylor the Infallible, Howell was on his way to commit anti-gay terrorism in LA at the time he was arrested. That means Howell must be a “homophobe” and thus logically can’t possibly be gay himself.

Perry Gaskill

Hondo, did your /sarc tag get lost again in the bulging “Lars Is An Idiot” file folder?

Hondo

I thought the sarcasm was so obvious no tag was required. Silly me. (smile)

Veritas Omnia Vincit

I’m pretty sure it was visible from ISS to be honest….

MSG Eric

You were serious about that? – Vincent Gambino

The Other Whitey

That would be Vincent LaGuardia Gambini, esq.

The Other Whitey

Sounds like a real asshole. And just looking at his picture, he’s creepy. Like Jeffrey Dahmer creepy. He looks like the kind of psycho who would appear outside your shower with his hand on his dick and an unsettling look on his face. Seriously, the boy ain’t right.

A Proud Infidel®™

He’s fucked up all right, VERY fucked up. Just WTF God are Court Orders if they aren’t enforced, and all to FUCKING often they’re just another piece of paper just like Restraining Orders. He disobeyed the Court and I wonder just what kind of slap on the wrist he’ll get unless a Court feels media pressure to actually do something?

1610desig

Looks a bit like that fellow who played frodo baggins the hobbit….if only he would put on that ring and become invisible, he’d do us all a favor…

Hondo

I think that’s Frodo’s “odd” cousin, Dildo.

MSG Eric

Bahahahahahahaha.

Snotcrow

Dildo TeaBaggins

I have heard stories about this fairy.

Hondo

Actually, the surname for that branch of the Hobbit clan is “Buggers”. (smile)

Seriously: years ago, Harvard Lampoon did a parody of Tolkein’s “Lord of the Rings” series titled “Bored of the Rings”. It’s hilarious, and reputedly is available as a PDF at multiple sites on the Internet. Worth reading if you’re not a prude or easily offended.

“Dildo Bugger” is a character in the parody.

B Woodman

I have the original paperback somewhere lost in my library. An example of a misspent youth.

MrFace

Elijah Wood was definitely the Good Son; This guy is more of the evil twin…

Yef

Wait, the guy trying to kill gheys was ghey???!

David

Obviously the common factor is confused guys who can’t decide what the hell their sexuality is. If they are not fully out of the closet, and there is any rumor that they are gay or may be considering it, or have a name similar to someone who may be considering being gay, have friends who may have been sexually confused, they need to have all their Constitutional rights suspended with no clear right or course of appeal. While on that list they also have no right to travel more than 50 miles from their residence, and must wear a pink snowflake clearly visible on their clothing.

ex-OS2

Creepy cocksucker.

MSG Eric

Literally.

HMC Ret

This is another no-win for the leftist media. We have a white guy (good for the media) who is possibly gay (bad for the media) in possession of gun(s) (great for the media, especially if the gun was black) on his way to a gay pride event (good for the media). How do they handle this? Too bad he didn’t have white power tats. That would have been the deciding factor I believe. IF it can be determined that he was planning to harm anyone, it should be reported that a scumbag intended to harm others because, well, he’s a scumbag. I forgot to mention he had prior gun offenses, which is wonderful for the media. I’m assuming he’s not a registered Republican (if registered at all … I’m thinking no) or it definitely would have received more media time. IMO some people are simply scumbags. Yeah, there be more of a back story but the bottom line is they simply are scum.

nbcguy54ACTUAL

This is all Obama’s fault.

Since his administration has fully embraced the LGBT movement, the only way they can get attention now is by killing each other…
