Biden: Diversity on battlefield an ‘incredible asset’
Speaking to cadets at the United States Military Academy, Vice President Joe Biden told them that the new diversity of women in combat units and gays in the military is an ‘incredible asset’ on the battlefield, according to the Associated Press.
“Having men and women together in the battlefield is an incredible asset, particularly when they’re asked to lead teams in parts of the world with fundamentally different expectations and norms,” Biden said in his speech at a graduation ceremony at Michie Stadium on the West Point grounds along the Hudson River.

Before the repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy in 2010, “E.J. would have been discharged from the Army, and we would have lost an incredible talent,” he said. “Thanks for your courage, E.J., and I expect we’re going to hear big things from you, pal.”
I guess that’s just something you say these days. No one has made the case that proves how women in combat units and openly gay soldiers in the military will help us kill more enemies and win wars, so they just speak in empty platitudes about “courage” and “incredible talent”.

He wasn’t. He took draft deferments (How many? If you guessed one, you can multiply that by five!) and was later classified as unavailable (except in case of national emergency) thanks to childhood asthma. That asthma did not prevent him from playing sports in high school or working as a lifeguard, by the way. In fact, in his memoir, he never mentions asthma at all but does brag about his athletic prowess. Asthma my ass. The problem for Joey was that year his deferments ended was 1968, the slimy, lying piece of shit.

It’s not as if one can just look and tell. And when gays were brought over in chains from Gayfrica to this land, it was a harbinger of what would befall blacks: unconscionable slavery. Of course they weren’t slaves. That’s part of the silliness of the comment referencing black Americans. Another is the fact that being black is an immutable characteristic. I can look at a picture of two people, one black and the other white, and know which one is which. I cannot do the same for a pic of a gay guy and a straight guy. More profoundly, there is no legitimate comparison between the historical experience of gays and blacks in America. And that’s what I tried to illuminate in my outlandish statements above. If there is a comparison to be made, many other groups can be added to the mix. But homosexuality is different in kind in many ways, not the least of which is that its practice runs afoul of a longstanding moral code that is not the exclusive province of Christians or, for that matter, believers at all. What is aggravating is this in-your-face gayness, the ever-present gay character on TV, the attention paid to gay this and gay that. After all, what special qualities, what contributions to society, does being gay in and of itself bring to the table. Our rights were protected from the government, not granted by the government. That way the minority, the one singular individual could live equally under the law unencumbered by how the majority views that one or that minority.
Being born here makes you an equal. That’s the only arbiter of what it means to be treated equally under the law, just because someone born here doesn’t fit another individual’s personal sense of what’s moral has zero bearing on their right to be treated equally under the law.
None of us has to like that concept but we damn sure better understand it and accept it lest we find ourselves no longer considered among equals.
