Army – Navy Game Today

| December 13, 2025 | 42 Comments

Let me see…my family has always been Army. I was Army. But in fairness, we have had Navy in the family – a since-divorced jerk brother-in-law, in-laws – well, let’s just say I am not conflicted over whom to cheer for. (In fairness, my Navy in-laws are good folks. But they ain’t Army.)

The game will have an unusual feature today you may want to look for – the Navy players will be wearing unit patches from over 100 units. Including at least one Army unit.

The patches come from Navy and Marine Corps units around the world. Many are sent by Naval Academy alumni who have reached out over the season to request that a player wear their current unit’s patch in the annual rivalry game. For others, players will pick a unit in which family members have served or are serving, while others are simple nods to significant moments in history.

Junior Safety Giuseppe Sessi will wear the patch of the USS Truxton, a guided-missile destroyer on which his cousin, Carlos Muniz, a Navy petty officer, is currently deployed.

Makes sense,  that.

Coleman Cauley, a junior linebacker from Macon, Georgia, is wearing a patch for the VMG-352 Raiders, a Marine air refueling squadron based in California.

Still making sense – after all, where do Academy-trained Marine officers come from? Yep, Canoe U, the United States Naval Academy.

Navy nose tackle Landon Robinson was ranked number 13 on the list of strongest collegiate players, and the 2024 co-MVP of the 2024 game is considered the strongest on the Navy team (powerlifts last summer of 465 pounds on bench, a 665-pound squat, and 350-pound power clean. Yowzas.)

But in a twist that could only happen at the Army-Navy game, Robinson, a team captain for Navy, will take the field Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland, wearing a patch that honors one of the Army’s most renowned and secretive units, C Company of the Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment’s 4th Battalion — the Chupacabras. The unit’s patch will be stitched to his shoulder, featuring a devilish lizard-figure and the 160th’s regimental motto, “Night Stalkers Don’t Quit.”

Robinson will wear the patch to honor a crew of four special ops aviators from the Chupacabras who were killed in September when their MH-60 crashed near Joint-Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

The crew were all soldiers, but one of the pilots, Chief Warrant Officer Andrew Kraus, 39, had deep family ties to the Naval Academy and the football team in particular.

Stephen Glenn, a backup punter from North Carolina, will wear a NASA patch from the Mercury-Atlas 6 mission, which sent the first American to orbit the Earth, Marine Lt. Col. John Glenn — Stephen’s great uncle.

There’s also a tie-in to Mission BBQ, a chain of barbecue joints opened by Kraus’ father after his son enlisted in the Marines.  Marine prior service Army chopper pilot.

The chain now has close to 150 locations, many near military bases and operates with unabashed themes of military support. Each day at noon, the staff stop serving as the national anthem is played.

“Every day is Veterans Day for us,” Kraus has said about the chain.  Task & Purpose

Every so often I tell you to go read the article. Before you watch the game, read this one.

For once I’d even be willing to let Army follow Navy and similarly wear patches. It’s a damn good idea.

As long as they don’t lose, that is.

Hooya!!!

Graybeard

Most of my family has been Army as well, but a brother and his son decided to go swabbie on us.
Oldest son’s best friend in Scouts graduated from Canoe U in 2000, went Marine helicopter pilot. Served well.

Nonetheless:

Go ARMY! beat navy!

(And I think the patch idea is worth adopting as well.)

SFC D

It’s kinda odd that you never see anyone wearing a Signal patch…

26Limabeans

We don’t play games…..

Blaster

Their afraid of all the “help desk” questions that will follow as soon as someone realizes that they’re a Signaleer!

Eggs

My father and two uncles served in the USAAF in WWII, a cousin as a Navy Seabee in Vietnam so maybe I’m kind of split on this. I’ll just drop this here

For me the only cool thing about Army V Navy was all the AFN commercial breaks in the run up to the game with the soldiers or sailors from units all over the world shouting out their branch “I’m Pvt Snuffy Smith with the 456th Trash Collection unit on Camp Kimchi South Korea, GO ARMY! BEAT NAVY! WOOOOWARBGARBLE!

Nope.

When the first Mission BBQ opened in the Chicago suburbs days before the funeral service of a Chicago police officer, they quietly reached out and volunteered to feed the funeral goers. Approximately 600 people. At no charge. With no press release, no fanfare. They just showed up.

Some called it a publicity stunt for a new restaurant. Because they didn’t know this is simply what they do. Since then, Mission BBQ has voluntarily and at no charge fed literally thousands at First Responders, Active Duty military, veteran and Gold Star funerals and memorial services.

If you want to work there as a cook, cashier, or in any capacity, your willingness to honor the service and sacrifice of those who protect us at home and abroad is literally a job requirement. It is a guarantee that no virtue-signaling refusal of a sandwich will be tolerated. Not by the other staff, the company, or the customers. If you choose to be there at noon and don’t want to remove a cover and stand for the National Anthem, you will be invited to either not return during the noon hour, or if your sensibilities are so impacted by unabashed patriotism, not return at all. I’ve personally seen it happen.

And they serve pretty good BBQ, the best by far I’ve ever had at a “chain”.

I can’t say enough good things about this company. A couple guys got together, wanted to open a business that promoted our First Responders and Military, in the community, and be successful on all fronts. They’ve proven the concept, and I wish more companies would show their courage of conviction.

Oh, and Go Army, Beat Navy.

I remember I stopped in at a Mission and while I was in the vestibule, the national anthem started playing and I snapped to while it played. The person behind me was probably a little discomfited but oh well. And the food is pretty damn good and reasonably priced plus most of the ones I’ve been to have RC in the bottle!

TopGoz

I travel a lot, all over. If there’s a Mission BBQ near where I’m traveling to, I always make it a point to patronize them. Sometimes, more than once during the week.
Too bad that the closest one to my home is about an hour and a half away in Chattanooga.
The Half A Yard Bird is my go-to.

Slow Joe

Do the Army team wears unit patches too?

Go Space Ghost Force coast to coast, y’all.

Welp, some sad news. Fox News has reported two US Army soldiers & an interpreter were killed in Syria. The pos responsible has reportedly been terminated – allegedly a lone isis gunman. RIP warriors.

Prior Service (Ret)

Even now, there is a video playing in both team locker rooms in which former Capt, current Sen, and always punk Mark Kelly is warning both teams away from illegal formations.

As for me: with 35 years of army service, strong opinions about West Pointers (some of which are admittedly juvenile and formed in my 1980s enlisted days), an army spouse and two army brothers, and a Navy brother, father and grand father, GO NAVY! Or, more accurately, I don’t actually care who wins and wish well to both schools’ faculty and cadets but I have a lot of important stuff to get done…

Watching all the future ZERO’s knock each other’s heads off is entertaining. My Alma Mater is in the same conference as Army & Navy, so cheering against them is easy. They are not a yearly opponent, and we play Army for the first time next season. \m/ \m/

WTF Army

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

USAFRetired

As a military brat growing up Mother – Navy, Father – Marine Corps my early years leaned towards Sodom on the Severn. I spent most of my adult life in the Air Force (24+ years) as did my older sister (nurse) (25+ years). My younger sister only did about 5 years in the Army (MSC) but I swore her in for her Commissioning. Her husband did 30 years in the Army.

My College has a less than auspicious records against Air Force (1-3 first played 1976) Army (2-8 first played 1934) and Navy (2-6 first played 1937)

Go Navy beat Army.

AW1 Rod

The game was WAY closer than it should have been, for a 9–2 team versus a 6–5 team. However, the end result is all that matters. And the end result was MOST satisfactory!

Skippy

It’s depressing

Next time, we bring artillery.

Shouldn’t you guys have brought it the first go-around?

The Ralph’s, I mean Refs, just had to revoke the touchdown that would have won it for Army!
