Frank Levingston, US’ oldest WWII vet passes at 110
UpNorth sends us the sad news that Frank Levingston, believed to be the oldest World War II veteran has passed at the tender age of 110. According to ABC News, he enlisted in October, 1942;
“He felt the obligation to give to the country whatever he possibly could, and he was very excited about it,” Jee Levingston, Frank’s nephew, told ABC News today. “He gave it his very best.”
Levingston told ABC News that his uncle was born on Nov. 13, 1905, in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, and that both of Frank’s parents died when Frank was very young.
“He was the backbone of this family,” Levingston said. “He never married, had no children, but he took great pride in taking care of his sister’s and brother’s children.
According to Wiki;
He served as a private during the war in the Allied invasion of Italy which lasted from September 1943 to January 1944. After receiving an honorable discharge in 1945, he became a union worker specializing in cement finishing. Levingston never married. On August 16, 2015, he became the oldest recognized living military veteran in United States, following the death of Emma Didlake.

RIP
He enlisted at 37 according to my math. Yikes. He was a tougher man than me.
Reminds me of my father. Enlisted at 34. Wanted to go infantry, but got put in ordnance instead. Same service as this gentleman: North Africa, Sicily, Italy. He never ever really talked about the war, though he would say he was at MonteCassino. “Boy, was that tough!”
Rest in peace, sir. Say hello to my dad as you swap stories about that important part of your lives.
110 years old? We should all live so long and do so well. Carry on.
Holy hell…110…I’m not even certain I’d be looking forward to lasting that long…anything after about 80-85 is gravy for me….and if I start losing my mind and stop being me I’d hope I’d be gone far sooner…
Spry and sharp at a 110 is an amazing thing…that’s some great genetics there.
Rest in peace sir…you sure as hell earned it…
Rest in Peace, Mr. Levingston… and that you for your service as a member of the Greatest Generation.
Rest in peace sir. You have more than earned it.
Bless him and keep him…. he desrves the best.
Have to wonder how much his longevity and mental acuity have to do with never having married…
He had nobody telling him he was driving too fast, staying out too late, or drinking too much. It’s a wonder he didn’t kill himself without someone to boss him around.
Can only be grateful that such men lived among us. That he survived so well for so long was a wonderful gift for us all.
Rest now in peace, sir.
Rest In Peace, Warrior. Enjoy your place in Valhalla.
Thank you, Frank. We owe you more than we can every express or repay. Blessings
Rest in peace Frank.
Served his country and his family, now there’s a man. Rest in well earned peace Sir and thank you for all you stood for.
Much like the Civil War, men left their homes and families and obligated themselves totally to the needs of the Nation and this gentleman deserves all the respect and dignity a grateful nation can bestow.
SALUTE!
And Many Thanks to all who are in uniform today especially those in active combat operations.
SALUTE!
Talk about selfless service
Rest Well
Salute
